>everyone else takes like 2 fucking weeks because hurr durr gotta read a book and that's so difficult life comes first

>join a game
>its 5e DnD shit
>since it's the most popular shit and easy to make just need to think of a character and ask what others are playing
>get a character in 1 hour
>others take fucking days to week
>life, job, friend, vidya whatever is the excuse
Fuck. normalfags. Kill them all. Tabletop and nerd culture becoming the hip thing to do is the worst thing that has happened to this once niche culture.
I work 40 hours a week, play vidya, workout, have to take out parents/grandparents out to eat on holidays and birthdays, and I can meet schedule and play tabletop just fine because this is my hobby and has been my hobby for 20 years. If you truly love something you can make time for it. There is no excuse.

What if you made real friends so you would have a reliable group of like minded faggots to play with and it wouldn't be a problem
>>
>>97275912
I think I'm too far on the opposite end, where I'm so abnormal I'll sit at a table by myself for hours just testing mechanics I'd enjoy in games, because I'm not going to ever get mechanics like those sitting with a group "game", and my friends aren't interested in tabletop games that aren't casual card games like UNO or Cards Against Humanity.
But you're so fucking right about being able to make time for something you love; most people just like to flake and make excuses. I get maybe two days to myself if I'm lucky, and I still find time to either develop mechanics or test them.

I like the idea of a revival, cults love chanting and invoking beings. What would they be reviving? A dead devil-god? Maybe a high level cultivator that created the cult because he knew he was going to die before reaching immortality. It should probably be something that has died so that it makes sense that the artifact is so sought after.
>>
>>97282340
>What would they be reviving?
I will put my vote on dead ancestor, maybe a possessed one so we can have both? I think it would be more interesting if the revival plan was from a flawed human and maybe even distorted with time instead of a god like being that can supposedly guide the cult anyway from beyond.
> so that it makes sense that the artifact is so sought after.
What artifact? Wuyu's? That one makes no sense being ftom the cult since it's a counter to them. Myabe it was already used to kill the ancestor once, which is why the cult wants it so much, so nobody can use it again in the same way. No point reviving the ancestor when the weapon/object that caused his death is still around right? I had some ideas, but they would put some PCs in the role of protagonist so maybe it's not the best to use them.
>>
>>97282340
I'm too lazy to go looking for it, but I remember Shahua's anon posted a possible background info doc once - maybe the ancient sect leader of the destroyed devil sect they mentioned?

Alternative ideas, based on stuff mentioned in character rentries or just random ideas:
>They're trying to abort the Sacred Embryo (Chizi) and force the world back into primordial chaos. Possibly using Ming's division/duality to achieve this.
>The Devil-God that originally practiced Moyu's Shadowed Menagerie, the Cult wants to revive it and achieve immortality inside of its artificial afterlife.
>They're not trying to revive something, they're trying to free the thing trapped in Shahua's coffin (not sure what it is, the fingers in her image are pretty creepy though).
>A long dead Jin Empire ruler/royal. Maybe someone Yecheng or the Xun Patriarch killed? Or a previous Xun leader - the Cult hate the Patriarch and want to Make Xun Great Again.

I like dead ancient cult leader, but wouldn't be opposed to a devil-god torturing the people who thought they'd get a cushy afterlife.
>>
>>97282340
>What would they be reviving? A dead devil-god?
Devil-god sounds good to me.
Or, if they're reviving something, how about a body for their leader to use instead of a generic evil guy? That way the "final boss" can have a presence instead of coming in out of nowhere. A devil-god would likely have more of a connection with the ghost domain too.
>>97282508
I feel like the revival plan should be "perfect" in the sense that, with no interference, a high power level for the ressurectee could be achieved. So instead of them reviving a mid-low tier threat setting wise, they end up reviving a high tier threat but with weaker power (in order to be fightable) due to PC interference. Then include some "argh my power needs time to grow!" so our PCs have urgency in killing it before its powers grow out of control.
>>97282542
>>They're trying to abort the Sacred Embryo (Chizi) and force the world back into primordial chaos
Ngl I think that idea in particular sounds extra terrible lmao. The idea of Chizi being tied to the world itself instead of "just another extremely talented cultivator" feels really stupid to me.
>>The Devil-God that originally practiced Moyu's Shadowed Menagerie,
>>They're not trying to revive something, they're trying to free the thing trapped in Shahua's coffin (not sure what it is, the fingers in her image are pretty creepy though).
These ideas feel dumb to me too. Like I guess its an angle to be pursued and aren't as dumb as the Chizi one but still. The Moyu one isn't as bad as the Shahua one. If anything, I like the idea that maybe they're related to the Big Evil Guy's Big Evil Disciples. If there's more "people" for the cult to revive that lets both of these happen and not feel as silly.
>>A long dead Jin Empire ruler/royal. Maybe someone Yecheng or the Xun Patriarch killed? Or a previous Xun leader - the Cult hate the Patriarch and want to Make Xun Great Again.
The latter sounds fun if we go dead guy instead of devil angle.
>>
>>97282542
All these are exactly the kind of ideas I was trying to avoid since they really make a couple of builds the center of the story rather than on par with the rest.
>>97282581
>I feel like the revival plan should be "perfect" in the sense that, with no interference, a high power level for the ressurectee could be achieved. So instead of them reviving a mid-low tier threat setting wise, they end up reviving a high tier threat but with weaker power (in order to be fightable) due to PC interference.
That's what I meant with my suggestion. I feel like if they have a god guiding them there would be less chances of mistakes, since the god would find out and react. I guess we could go with a god that can't comunicate to allow for a weaker revival. So we can also have the scene where it awakens unaware that the ritual was fucked up and it isn't at full power, so it gets beat up and runs away to gather more power.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Could be something worth using there. I'll take a look.

I think I have Halls of the Blood King floating around somewhere. Worth considering. Thanks.
>>97280830
Yeah my initial idea was to generate a small lair and give some landmark designators to point them in the right direction when they search for it. (5 miles East of Obelisk, just beyond the lake. Place Obelisk and lake hexes accordingly on hexmap etc.) but I also thought this may be a good way to break up the process of delving such a huge dungeon as Stonehell.
I was considering using The Hyqueous Vaults as it's been recommended by Prince and others. I could also have one of the macguffin rods from the module be bundled up in the map as my player hasn't actually examine it yet (fortunately for me). It's maybe a bit longer than I was looking for, at about 60 rooms, but it's only one floor and has "vault" in the title, so the allure of treasure would be strong.

>Reposting the magic item I came up with the other day as I think the sloppa image I generated for it turned out decent.
>>
>>97280181
There is a supplement called Dungeon Grappling, you could maybe look into that.
Although though it purports to be compatible with S&W, it seems to me that it's mainly written with modern editions in mind, but could be what you're looking for.
>>
>>97280181
TL;DR: No. The DMG has unarmed combat rules that are way more extensive than they ought to be, but they're not as detailed as what you seem to want.

Alright, Tyrant Lvl3 is dead (after a very scary early harvester incantation draw...) and we have our 4th people of the star and our 2nd and 3rd frozen heart. I think we're going to work on polishing their gear grids now, we've got 2 calcified shoulder pads cooking that'll pop right before the level 3 nemesis at 23, going to see if we can get 2 beast knuckles and a set of Lantern armor and dragon slayer for our katar and grand weapon user respectively. Ultimately, we're hoping to finish this campaign this weekend before we have to get to work, so we honestly might say it's a wipe to the king man at 23 to save time since we still don't have pottery (thank God barber burgeoning locked behind that anymore)

I feel like elves in AoS are weird
>LRL
Standard high elves but with a bunch of weird flavor bits that don't directly mesh with the whole pristine elf thing. weird bull horns everywhere, cow mountain god thing, weird mounts, a wuxia looking fan user riding a goku cloud. just generally a weird vibe
>DoK
Dark elves, but missing every male unit, no armored units, and not monsters that aren't snake ladies. Strictly a downgrade unless your a femdom/trannydom enjoyer
>sylvaneth
literally not elves which is why they're so cool. I enjoy traditional fantasy race tropes but I appreciate that AoS takes things in a different direction even if they're not all hits.

>sphiranx hero
I don't think we really need a hero, they just need to add the sphiranx to the battletome. If they made a second spearhead box, something with jade obelisk and the sphiranx would be nice, it's a pain trying to get those things seperately.
>>
>>97282153
one new battle tome, and one relevant foot hero for that faction, I'm calling it as being the only announcements for AoS. Maybe OBR since they teased bones in the announcement trailer.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

>Binder
I have no idea what the fuck they were thinking with this class.
>Oh hey let's make a squishy ranged controller
>Now let's make it's primary controller feature be based around standing in melee with enemies or beign the one to deal the killing blow(minions didn't count iirc?)
Honestly the Hexblade was everything the Binder should have been.
>>
>>97282374
Binder seems like it was supposed to be designed with a Curse like base Warlock so it could trigger its Pact Boon at ranged when its Cursed target went down but they didn't want it to be damage and just erased it right before shipping it. What I would have done is make the Curse be "Minor Action you lay your Curse on the closest target. When you hit your Cursed target it is Slowed/Slid/Gains Vulnerable/whatever based on your Pact. When a target under your Curse falls to 0 Hit Points trigger your Pact Boon".

Instead they made you, a Controller, have to finish something off or be next to it. And in a jank way to facilitate that you get at-wills that are fake Blasts so you can fire them off in melee. I wish I could have been in the room when they decided on that asinine bandaid. And to top it off as written you can't take the generic or other Pact specific Encounter Powers. It specifically says "You gain an encounter attack power associated with your pact." which absolutely guts your pool of Powers.

If someone for some psychotic reason wants to play Binder just slap them and then make them play base Warlock, especially almost any Cha Warlock. You'll still have access to the Binder Powers if you really want them but the increased flexibility, better Pact boons, Curse which opens up so many options, the ability to stay ranged and in the end more consistent Control its just better.

Similarly if someone wants to play Bladesinger you should beat them with a brick. If you want to be a magic sword guy Swordmage is awesome, Hexblade is okay and you can rig Sorcerer to be melee too. Or if you desperately want to be a Wizard then be a Mage and use AIP to poach a longsword onto it and waggle that around like a wand. Hell even just Hybrid Wizard with literally anything is better than Bladesinger.

Frenopolis is a gamified tetragrammaton clothed in the memetic zeitgeist.

This thread is for discussion and development logging.

It's easiest to learn with YGO/MTG experience.

It's not for sale, but you can request a free physical 2-player 90 card set by following the instructions in the description of this video:
https://youtu.be/oPoBUoagO_k
(No payment or identifying info required)

Playmats have arrived and will be sent out with the playtesting kits. Anyone who already received a set with the shipping label name "Current Resident" should be receiving one by 1/10/26. If your shipping label was not sent to "Current Resident", email or DM me on telegram so I can send you one.

Rules have been condensed to 1 page in MTG terms. Covers everything but technical information and edge cases.

8.5*11in, printable.

Here is the advanced interaction sheet which covers edge cases and technical information which generally is not needed for general gameplay.

You can print both of these images on the same sheet front/back.

In picrel top two MTG diagrams, you can see that each of the 5 colors is composed of 2 base concepts, which are then arranged on a spectrum wheel. These concepts are what define the mechanics belonging to a particular color identity. This is a sort of top down approach, letting the concept inform the mechanics.

In Frenopolis, each color is also composed of 2, but they're not concepts, they're Elements which correspond to card types and board zone mappings. The mechanics inform the concept. This is a bottom up approach. The Frenopolis color pie is strictly defined in terms of the game board itself. Color identity cannot be broken.

There are, admittedly, some things in that prognostication I would be quite happy with.

Also, love that you even got the detail of the chains having a place to retract to. Your conversions are VERY good. Idk if it means anything but you could do numbers on IG just posting what you've posted here.

I can't take credit for that, the talos arm comes with the chain spools, I only remove 2 of the 4 that were too close to the pilot's cabin. Cheers though.
Going through other old projects, I only ever painted up 1 squat and an additional head, really should finish those at some point...
>>
>>97282491
This head as it is now is giving me Spurdo vibes.

He sometimes has the visor up.
