Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

WRONG. You are either COOKED or doing the COOKING, and therefore while EATING COOKED FOOD is BASED actually BEING the COOKED food is CRINGE. THEREFORE, Gohan is both COOKED and CRINGE as well as ZESTY.

I thought the new one was kind of dull since it has 2 sets of the ancient horror kits and a warcry warband which is always a bit fiddly. But to be fair they put basically the entire 3rd edition release wave in the first spearhead so it's not like they had a lot of choice.
>>
>>97257879
True, and if you have both you have most of the FEC range, excluding Underworlds units of course.

In my work in progress fantasy setting, the planet is tidally locked to its star, with six moons (one of which has a 24.2h rotation, and they use to count "days"). How do you think people would sleep? The sun is always up, so there's no restricting people to all sleep at around the same time. Would you have "upmoon" and "downmoon" cultures, or per-village, or would it be workers in the cities, etc? It's roughly 1900-ish tech level.
>>
>>97256957
>How do you think people would sleep
Lightly, and at different times. Perhaps even with half of their brain awake, like some aquatic animals do.
If it's 1900's tech level, they'd probably have a set schedule as to facilitate factory work. I would go with three sleeping phases to match three shifts of ~8 hours each.
>>
>>97256957
Are they human? I don't think anything that evolved on that planet would need sleep, at least not in the way we do. How would plants grow with constant sunlight, would they still need have cycles of producing sugars if they can just get all their energy from a constant source? How do the people dissipate heat on the sun side?
>>
>>97256935
In real world it was a fairly nebulous term (I don't think it actually was an official ship classification in the same way light cruiser or armored cruiser were) but primarily referred to a cruiser with battleship-scale guns.
In this case it's just a terminology difference. The humans refers to ships bigger and more heavily armed than cruisers as battleships, While the Seirans consider their biggest ships to be more heavily armed and armored versions of their standard cruisers, and so call them battlecruisers or heavy cruisers. Seiran battleships/battlecruisers also do perform more like big cruisers, since they're fast for their size and there's more overlap in armament size between them and cruisers.
>>
>>97256935
Now you triggered my autism. Basically there's multiple flavors battlecruisers.
The one people think of is usually the british flavor. A battleship sized ship, with downstripped armor (enough to stand up to cruisers, but might as well be paper against proper battleships) standard battleship caliber guns but less of them (they usually lost a turret compared to a battleship of the same era) and more speed. They were designed to destroy cruisers and act as scouts, and since scouting groups were usually made of cruisers, to destroy enemy scouts and screens. They won't last long in the line of battle because no fucking armor as the bongs learned painfully when their battlecruisers started exploding during the battle of Jutland. Although there's more to it than that, the battlecruisers had dropped all ammo handeling safety to achieve higher firerates, so good hits were likely to blow the entire thing up.

The other is the Imperial German flavor. Also battleship sized, fast enough to keep up with cruisers, with better armor and the same number of guns but at the low end of what you'd consider battleship scale. These were meant to fill the same role as the british BCs, but were also intended to survive in the line of battle, hence the better armor compared to british BCs. They actuall held up okay during Jutland, although there were plenty of losses anyway.

Battlecruisers eventually became obsolete with technonlogical improvment. Once fast battleships became a thing (just before or during WW2), there was no longer a need for a ship that sacrificed armor and/or firepower for speed. You could have a proper battleship going fast, why build a battlecruiser? Things like ships carrying floatplanes for scouting also meant the role of destroying scouts could no longer be fully fulfilled by them.

>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.
>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. The Wyrm promises money, power, sex, and whatever else the heart desires to its followers while the Garou receive no reward for their striving. It drives them deeper and deeper into despair, or into betrayal so deep that they choose to serve the Wyrm instead.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

my dudes aware me on Konflikt 47

i am worried it will be babbys first wargame like bolt action

like "lame dudes hit on 6+, wound on 6+", "elite dudes hit on 4+, wound on 4+", very little difference between units and factions, few if any special rules, dumb tactics...
>>
>>97255896
>>97256041
i believe both of you are right in a way
WZE is at its core a streamlined, competitive, balanced game with strict action economy etc.
which will put off franchise/brand/lore fans who just will NOT see the gameplay and feeling from previous editions in it
but at the same time the swingy d20 system prevents it from being a proper competitive game
at the same time there is zero marketing and the game is dead on arrival i am afraid
it takes the worst of both worlds i think
if resnova are content with working on it every now and then then that is nice sure
but the game will never take off beyond a couple dozen players around the world
dead on arrival yeah
>>
>>97257815

I haven't played konflikt '47, but i don't really see an issue with the rules you describe. A few broad unit profiles that can be flavoured with some special rules seem perfectly fine to me.

The most I can really say about this being a caster debate is that caster defense progression is weirdly funky even between casters, especially between Prepared and Spontaneous casters. But even then, defense scaling is all over the place for everyone when it breaks down to brass tax. Many classes like Alchemist, Magus, Sorcerer and Wizard get no unique Level 3 feature or defense up. Class feature design is messy overall.

Yeah, this can be spun into another "Paizo hates casters and hates (You)" debate but do you really want it to over more broad issues with the system?
>>
>>97256456
>for all the "be a dragon" feats like Scaly Hide and claws

>>
So in Starfinder 1e it really seems like Evolutionist has some really glaring drawbacks when it comes to niches, all of them seem fucking hellbent on killing you like a retard, which is weird to me since it seems like the class isn't even that good in the first place so having drawbacks as insane as they are is confusing considering the other classes seem just as good without the chance of you being raped by double damage from electricity
>>
https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1pxqn06/mythic_experiences/

Every time I see a thread along the lines of "What do you think of Pathfinder 2e's mythic rules?" the response is almost universally "They are underwhelming and boring" or something similar.
>>
You think they will ever revisit some adventure path "concepts" Id be interested in another carrion crown or skulls and shackles.
For that matter remembering back to 1e I fully did not understand how they wanted the start of skulls in shackles to be run with influencing crew members on wormwood. Felt really awkward when I tried to run it but I feel like I missed something.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom).

That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ.

Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.

You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor.

Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.

Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.

Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

Oh no. I stripped a few jetbikes, and they became a bit more, uh, hebrew. Boiling them will probably work, but i thought it looked funny.

>print fails on a Dumbo model I downloaded
>little islands form on the plate but nothing else, like it disappeared
>feel little tiny bumps on my resin vat
>recently changed the film cause my dumbass pierced it and caused a leak so I'm super careful now
>use the "tank clean" feature on my printer for the first time for the default 21 seconds
>expect it to harden and be able to just peel off
>can't take it off with my plastic scraper and afraid to use any force
>try another 21 seconds to no avail

What should I do guys? I'm afraid to expose it any longer for fear of fucking it up and when I look up videos it tells me to put some spare supports or paper in the vat BEFORE I press tank clean but I think it's too late for me now. The vat is pretty shallow but not shallow enough to see the bottom.
