I think I'm probably the first one to complain about that, but it's the first time I've turned from love to hate so quickly to the point that I'm considering ditching the norse and building the vampire team I got for christimas and slap chop it

Does anyone happen to have a scan of the new BB edition book? Have a game with a friend tomorrow and wanted to get across the new rules, unless people recommend not bothering. Even then, it would be good to have in case my group goes that way anyway.

I honestly prefer elves in Aos than in fantasy. Maybe daughters of khaine don’t live up to dark elves but the rest are cool, sylvaneth especially. Although I’ll admit I kinda focus more on the relations the elves have with the realms than them in a vacuum.

im bad at the game. id dont understand how yuji is bad, and for taunting, id rather run more laplace's demon
>>
God I love Taunting. There is nothing better than having a deck of CS Shakkoumon and Trident Arms to just molest your opponent out of existence.
>>
>>97281703
Yuji is bad because you can't cheat it into play and it doesn't do anything on play. It is simply too slow to be put into modern lists.

Conversely, Kosuke CAN be cheated into play, and can be used to trigger multiple different effects.
>id rather run more laplace's demon
Laplace is okay, but having a taunt thay comes naturally when evolving is much better.

i dont feel like cheating out kosuke is even worth it. like you need bt16 doru in breeding or to play and have it live. then on your second turn you use it to put kosuke under, then when you end, assuming the doru or whatever you digivolved into survives, you play it out on your second turn. i could just play it normally at that point if i opened it

The DMG refers to eight different types of players. Was it correct?

Sadly, to my knowledge, nobody else tried. They come up with Grand Unifying Theories and worked backwards from that.
>>
>>97280550
They aren't discrete. One of my players is equal parts Actor/Storyteller/Thinker/Instigator.
>>
>>97280550
No. In fact I'm not even saying it's too broad or abstract or whatnot, it's just inaccurate and even harmful to new GMs. As the chad GM in >>97281176 screencap points out, you shouldn't even fucking consider "Watchers" and "Slayers" human and prep for them if you value your time and sanity.
>>
>>97280550
>>97281176
These categories don't describe players. They describe tools GMs can try to use to engage players, by treating those players in a particular manner.

Have you used these? Were they successful for you? If yes to both, then they're accurate insofar as they're helpful to you. If you haven't, then you're just trying to pigeon hole everyone but yourself in a way that's inaccurate and pointless because people are drastically more complex than that. They don't describe people at all. They describe how you can try to interact with other people, if you need some help with such a basic function.
>>
>>97281210
Of course. Im not sure what good such a theory would even be at the end of the day.

Thanks for the list. Damn, this is pretty good! Honestly, Racist Blake and Uncle Ruckus is just comedy that writes itself.

Also like the Medusa one quite a bit! Shame Arachne yet again is overlooked. Tired Femme Fatale Milf is a mood. Oh well, nothing the Import Option can't fix.

Still thanks for your work, and great taste! Also Flayne is such a cutie, bless her.
>>
>>97281071
>That option is supposed to replace itself every Jump with a new one
As in, you can't even keep the brainwashed students in your basement or something? That should probably be called out then, since the Simps section header says all options are Followers but some may work more specifically.
Poor Misaki. A shame, but ah well.

>That said, being a Wasp is the one that guarantees a reason why she can't just control you.
Not even LOVE? Alas!
Nah, that tracks. Though if you take female human here without a way of protecting yourself from stings I'm pretty sure you are *literally* asking for it.
As for building to counter her, it's less intentionally doing that and more that as mentioned, her whole Smother Mother-Dom thing kind of falls apart just with the basic "be Queen, have Soldiers, they instinctively hate her minions" issue. A bit of a problem when that's her whole deal.
Speaking for myself, I've done several Wasp builds for different chains and they all took Misaki, while any build that takes(/is taken by) Red would be Human (with a penis and/or mind control immunity, because Himenospia). But oh well, it's just an extra 100cp for out-of-origin anyway.

>Kind of stretching it but sure.
Sweet.

Anon, I'm NTA.

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

(Continued.)

It is ultimately the same d10-based dice pool game as Chronicles of Darkness in general, for good or for ill.

Resource-management-wise, Deviants have no "Mana" pool. Instead, they work off 1/scene, 1/chapter, and in some cases, 1/story abilities. (Almost like D&D 4e.) However, each Clade has a method of instantly recharging abilities.

Black Vans' earlier chapters introduce ways to adjust dice rolling, such as by allowing automatic success under certain conditions.

>>97281142

The Player's Guide to the Contagion Chronicle actually has a small section on crossing over Deviant and Hunter specifically, though this was not written by Eric Zawadzki.

Eric Zawadzki did, however, write Black Vans, which has a much larger and comprehensive section on crossing over Deviant and Hunter.

Christmas edition

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

Yes the actual target of it is bad, and yes it's just a card flip.
And yes the "add event in x years" is awesome
But the first thing is just a balance thing, like it could be "the lowest XP kills the highest XP, add takes half his xp/split his xp between the other survivors that catch the murder" it can be made fine
and for being a card flip, I see it as a settlement inevitability, it has settlement consequences, even if it's a card flip, it's a thing that can happen and it's how that affects your settlement/story, and what they do about it, it leads to something, it's a storybuilding effect
I would be fine with a card that says "the oldest person over X hunt xp in the settlement, has died of old age", things happen, what does your settlement do about it
I wouldn't be fine with a random event saying "if you are old over X hunt xp you die"

Alright, Tyrant Lvl3 is dead (after a very scary early harvester incantation draw...) and we have our 4th people of the star and our 2nd and 3rd frozen heart. I think we're going to work on polishing their gear grids now, we've got 2 calcified shoulder pads cooking that'll pop right before the level 3 nemesis at 23, going to see if we can get 2 beast knuckles and a set of Lantern armor and dragon slayer for our katar and grand weapon user respectively. Ultimately, we're hoping to finish this campaign this weekend before we have to get to work, so we honestly might say it's a wipe to the king man at 23 to save time since we still don't have pottery (thank God barber burgeoning locked behind that anymore)

>every animal ever that lives in groups and hunts for food
To be fair, that doesn’t apply to a staggering amount of monsters and real-life animals – most either don’t hunt (bovids, elephant-likes) or don’t live in groups (big cats save for lions, snakes, birds, and the hundreds of monsters based on those three). So at least we can use them to introduce some tactics different from the typical ‘group of idiots’ and ‘single giant monster’ animal encounters.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

These are very close to Alexander Macris's example scenarios where fudging is "justifiable", however he is a simulationist (which is rare), while most narrativists state that you should actively fudge the dice for the purpose of "telling a good story" or preventing lethality.
Example of a narrativist defending fudging for purposes other than patching mistakes/illogical gameplay results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vguHd5IHFAg

I agree with >>97235185 that in the first scenario it is better to have enemies behave logically than like video game enemies (making enemies surrender/flee is actually good for grimdark), and that roll tables for encounters are mostly suggestions/idea seeds/map-making tools rather than an exact description of how the world is structured, and that if you have a premade setting you should probably also have custom encounter tables for it rather than using the ones in the base rules.

>think session zeros should be a thing, formal or informal.
Session zero is a gay concept. Informal? Ok then it's not a session zero, it's campaign planning and chargen. Wow. Hipsters just need a new word for everything.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind if I want to dm?

That DMing is a choice and if you're not having fun with it, then you don't need to keep forcing yourself to.

Like I considered actually actionable advice, but I do think it's important to remember that outside of rare circumstances, being a DM is always a choice, which is why they put up with tables that aggravate and antagonize them and vice versa without considering on just being the adult and talking it out or walking away.

There's a board devoted to tabletop games where 99.9% of the users have never played a single session of a game in their lives.

I've never played. I started building and painting little guys in April. If anyone in Tokyo wants to play LR, DR, SAGA let me know. I've been mostly building dark age miniatures.

I'd take a dozen 2hu autists constantly trying to talk about games from the perspective of someone who actually plays regularly than the shit we've got now where schizoids will throw a shitfit if you dare question why they only exclusively make vague, retarded threads.
