>the next BBEG in your campaign is a coomer that goes around kidnapping and mind controlling women for his harem, and literally that’s it.

Does your party even care? Does your setting/game system even care? Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

Haven't posted my build in a while so here's a repost.
Tried to go for max friends without abusing drawbacks and a general lucky adventurer vibe.

Methods:
>Fated Shot Doctrine
>Prismatic Radiance Manuscript
I'm a sucker for the 'bed luck in your favour' options and I feel like these two work well together. With PRM & FSD I have luck, speed, reaction time and perception with PRM providing defense and FSD offense. I guess this is basically a Hunter from Destiny.

Did you know that in 1999 Dan Abnett did a comic that was basically a wholesale rip-off of 40k except the main character was this vampire lady that he had all the other characters constantly talk about how sexy she was.

It had a feudal space Catholic empire that oppressed mutants, and even had elite warriors with implanted organs and cybernetics using weapons called bolters. Later Dan Abnett had the MC tame a bolter warrior with her vampire pussy.

It's slightly annoying to have this smug fake conversation about all sci-fi and fantasy ever being based on Warhammer 40,000 when the timeline here is pretty provably 2000AD > Warhammer > 1999 Durham Red and the latter is absolutely ripping off Warhammer more than anything else. But it's a pretty obscure pull so I'm not surprised anons haven't read it and enjoy being smug and feeling in the right more.

Like this guy >>97398000 who didn't read shit in the thread and has no idea that 1987 Durham Red is enormously different from 1999 Durham Red, no way he's read either, but won't let that stop him from all caps'ing his opinion and certainty of being in the right.

As GM, present a situation with an obstacle in it, then players try something and you describe the reaction to that, using the rules as your guide for resolving things.
Thats 70% of GM'ing and once you (mostly) learn the rules its all flows fairly simply.
Try to know and apply the rules, but its better to make a quick ruling, write down what it was and correct it after the session is done then to slow the game down mid session with book reading.
(When presenting your situation, Be open too many possible solutions, your players WILL fail if you need them to read your mind and succeed on a singular specific solution)
As to not blot this post further, even though others may disagree, Your recommended reading will be looking up Deficient Master, The Alexandrian and Seth Skorkowsky for further fundamentals on GMing.

SnapTray is actually a really simple but smart idea. Overcome the problem of shipping fragile models by spending a penny in print material to create a frame to hold everything in place and supports to keep from being crushed. The one I ordered from them was smartly designed.

for starters Elf slaves in a Roman system would inevitably result in the rise of a freedman class, there were famously some very powerful freedmen and presumably that would be compounded by Elf longevity allowing for centuries to accrue assets and power as well as magical aptitude, wisdom, y'know typical Elf traits.

>>97397815
Ideally, slavery would almost never happen, but if it is to happen, I imagine elf slaves usually see it as a temporary humiliation that they'll find some way out of.
>>
>>97399911
Yeah that makes sense to be, even if an elf kingdom would be conquered and its population enslaved they would still survive in more spread out communities that would eventually form after the initial generation of slave owners died

Not surprising. I ripped that one from one of the PDFs I have. It might've gotten changed somehow when it was incorporated into the PDF. That might be the only way to save some of these ancient pics. Like pic related.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: what's the best classic GURPS cover art?

It really is just Basic Set, Martial Arts, Powers, and Power-Ups. Some skills and perks from Tactical Shooting and Gun-fu. Then maybe DF, or even Horror. You might find one strange unique case in Supers or Psionic Powers that is a total stretch but sounds fair in paper.
>gear
Basic, LT, HT, UT, DF, MA, AtE, and Zombies. Maybe Monster Hunters as well I don't know I don't like it.
Don't you dare include spaceships or transhuman space under the gear category anon.

So in another thread, people recommended I just use GURPS for a more classic Fallout game, problem is I never got a single explanation of just what supplements and such would be recommended to read up on and use (not counting After The End of course). Could I get a explanation here? Very new to GURPS and honestly would like to know how to play and run it.
>>
>>97399585
Basic Set, ATE, High-Tech and Ultra-Tech (maybe Bio-Tech idk)
>>
>>97399585
>>97399608
To elaborate:
Basic Set covers the core rules of the game.
AtE covers the apocalypse specific rules of the game.
High Tech gives you all the equipment you want to run the game, as well as a few rule sections for the finer points. In GURPS terminology, High Tech refers to everything from the Industrial Revolution to the present day.
Ultra Tech covers future technologies, and includes power armor, laser weapons, ect.
Bio Tech covers genetic engineering, which is relevant for FEV stuff but really you don't need to read Biotech, it doesn't have anything super new that isn't already in Basic Set.

I would recommend you look at Tactical Shooting and Martial Arts, both of which come with expanded rules for gunplay and melee respectively, and will be useful for making the combat feel better. You might also take a quick skim of Low Tech if you want to do a lot of tribal focused stuff. Follow the order of books as listed, if you need a guide.
I know this seems like a lot, but you really only need to read Basic Set and AtE to completion, the techbooks you mostly just want for the equipment lists.
>>
>>97399585
It would have been 3E, 1996 or before
So Basic Set Revised
GURPS High-Tech
GURPS Robots
GURPS Psionics
GURPS Cyberpunk (Probably not)
GURPS Ultra-Tech 1 (2 was 1997, same year and so was too lat for the negotiations)
GURPS Space (2E, which might have had weapons and technology not covered by Ultra-Tech)
GURPS Compendium I + II were 1996, so maybe too late
GURPS Dinosaurs (Fallout spun out of a time-travel game, but the book was from 1996 and so would be maybe too late)

RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, super-nazis, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!

Plus other Palladium Games about superheroes, zombies, classic fantasy, supernaturals investigation and more.

>Beyond the Supernatural
>Dead Reign
>Robotech (lol)

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

>not avoid or ignore any butterfly events.
Right, so no masquerade bullshit keeping the world from learning about magic.
>A real worldbuilder tries to make a coherent timeline,
So what's the problem with having a coherent timeline for an alternate earth?

People make medieval worlds with original histories all the time. Why is it suddenly a problem if the world is modern? What's wrong with wanting a modern setting with original races, cultures, religions, geographies, or whatever?

The same way God did. Brains and genes.
>>
Historically, a woman might have given birth to six children only for three to reach adulthood, with most deaths occurring during the first year. It was common for 40% to 50% of children to die before reaching puberty.

Maternal mortality was equally prevalent. It is estimated that the number of women who died in childbirth rivaled the number of men who died in wars. In many peaceful eras, childbirth was actually more lethal to the female population than combat was to the male population. Before modern medicine, roughly 1 in 100 to 1 in 150 births resulted in the mother’s death. Because women had multiple pregnancies—often six to ten—their cumulative lifetime risk of dying in childbirth was as high as 1 in 10 or 1 in 20. In many cultures, children weren't named until they were a year old.

Because the risk was so omnipresent, many cultures treated pregnancy with a solemnity that reflected the possibility of death. In many European traditions, women would go to confession or take the Eucharist before labor, often settling their affairs and drafting wills. If they survived, it was celebrated with a formal ceremony of thanksgiving.

How would a fantasy setting tackle it? Let the childhood mortality be as high despite the presence of magic? Have healing magic be rare? Perhaps magic not having figure out how to deal with childbirth because of the two souls problem? Have magic solve the issue with the resulting population explosion? Have monsters/spirts that target children and pregnant women? Have lethality much higher than real life because monsters actively hunt humans?

All reasons for why magic is considered evil by the "Science Side", ie the modernists who follow modern liberal principles:

1. Magic is anti-humanist. It's derived from the power of what's basically Satan, a primordial god that tried and failed to take over the universe. Whenever you use magic, you're basically channeling HER will.

2. Magic is anti-meritocratic. 99% Mages are just born with their powers, and their ability is hard capped at birth. Hard work and effort don't matter, only your parentage does. It inevitably creates aristocratic clan based systems.

3. Magic is sexist and gender essentialist. If you were born male, you can use magic but you can't "create" it or pass it on. If you were born female, you can pass on the gene to your kids but can't use it. So it inevitably creates patriarchal systems.

4. Magic is inherently zero sum. All Mages are basically drawing from the same pool of power. Killing other Mages actively makes you stronger. This system can't allow for peaceful cooperation, it will incentivize Mages to kill and enslave each other.

5. Magic is irrational. You can't really study it to get stronger, you can just hope the true masters of magic (Satan and his followers) just beam the knowledge to you because it helps their plans. The existence of magic makes science impossible.

Ignore it unless relevant to plot.

Is Warhammer 40,000 actually a misandrist/female supremacist setting? I'm just thinking about how every apparent accomplishment of the setting's major male players was actually done by a woman behind them e.g. the Emperor and Erda, Vect and Lady Malys, Angron and Lotara Sarrin, the High Lords of Terra and Morven Vahl, etc. etc.

Anon references a youtube channel pushing Nazi style modern rewrites of Anglo-Saxon mythology, so he's probably just against the Middle East and anything semitic in general.

One thing I think is pretty fun about the Touge Oni manga is the gods are implied to have these 'real', somewhat Lovecraftian forms that are often a stylized part of human anatomy. Susanoo here is the paranasal sinuses.
