Should an elven wizard be more powerful on average than a human one? Explain your answer.

>Could
Maybe.
>Should
Depends on the system, but mostly on luck.
>Explain your answer
Pretty sure that elves have some kind of learning disability to need to spend hundreds of years to learn the same thing humans can in a hundredth the time. So a headstart isn't going to mean much in terms of power overall.
>>
>>97358443
>Any that features the above settings or can run then in homebrew
They have very different rules for spellcasting, and different attributes being important. Like for instance, wisdom doesn't matter for D&D wizards (outside of saves), but it matters for channeling spells in Warhammer Fantasy. In this system anyway, elves can master any sphere of magic and learn High Magic, while human wizards are incapable of doing so.
Let alone the difference in age and also powerlevels for characters.
>>97358482
>Pretty sure that elves have some kind of learning disability to need to spend hundreds of years to learn the same thing humans can in a hundredth the time
That really isn't the case in any system or in any halfway serious setting.
Elves being dumb children for hundreds of years is a shitty anime trope.
>>
>>97358501
>Elves being dumb children for hundreds of years is a shitty anime trope.
Relax bro, just having a giggle since it's just a joke thread.
Though I didn't even take that from anime, it's the bogstandard joke of how an elven adventurer starts at level 1 like everyone else despite an adult elf generally being in the triple digits for years lived compared to them, surprised you couldn't recognize it
>>
>>97358643
I never played an elf of such age, unless the system (and the GM) forced me to.
You can play a 20-something elf just fine that also starts at level 1 as everyone else in many games.
Furthermore, this logic doesn't work, never works, when said elf will level up as fast as everyone else, gain the equal amount of experience.
And how dumb the thread is doesn't stop me from making regular, upfront posts about actual games stuff, if possible.
>>97358501
Also, since I'm familiar with WFRP more than anything else: you can't really say "it's largely the same" compared to anything else. Since elves in that system are not balanced to humans. The elfen wizard has a massive headstart in terms of spellcasting capabilities, and better stats in general. He will be a better fighter than the human wizard, faster and more agile, have more willpower, and even will be more charming. It really does depend on the system.
>>
>>97358708
>You can play a 20-something elf just fine that also starts at level 1 as everyone else in many games.
Wouldn't that basically be an elven toddler? So you play games where elf lolis are fighting on par with grown men and dwarves and stuff?

I guess it depends on how often you're doing rolls and checks. I keep them to a minimum for important events to keep the narrative going.

>make "Avatar the RPG" based on the show where the Avatar travels the world with his friends to solve a cataclysmic historical issue plaguing the world
>you don't get to play as the avatar and his team
>instead you play as a random band of adventurers doing random things
>make "Root: The RPG" Based on the highly political war game Root
>you don't get to play a high stakes politics game
>instead you play as a random band of adventurers doing random things
>>

>>make "Root: The RPG" Based on the highly political war game Root
>>you don't get to play a high stakes politics game
What exactly prevents you from doing this? I can understand your point with the other one since presumably they didn't give you rules to be the Avatar (although playing a team of benders should be enough for most groups I'd imagine)
>>
>>97358305
Not OP, but presumably the same reason.
If the rules encourage a certain sort of play, and that sort of play is not what the setting would presumably be about, what use are the rules? A game about mundane medieval times has little use for underwater exploration rules; a politics game has little use for murderhobo rules.
>>
>>97358280
I always enjoyed playing the little guy
>>
>>97358305
>What exactly prevents you from doing this?

While nothing completely "stops you" from doing so, it's a TTRPG after all, the core game mechanics are designed exclusively around playing adventuring vagabonds and you're discouraged from pledging alliance to any one faction. The game also explicitly doesn't support starting the game as a member or official of any of the factions.

You are allowed to subtly influence the war trough your adventures, but will always be trapped in the middle, and the war is meant to be a backdrop rather than a focal point.

I still think the books are fine, but I'm starting to notice a pattern of magpie games being very superficial with its theming.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). There are several. They range in size from a large beach ball to a small moon depending on how intimidating they want to be, they can grow much larger if they want to kill everything in a given area, which is... surprisingly often.

Suns range in personality from "if you do anything that angers me I will vaporize you before you realize you made a mistake" to "I will vaporize you just because the thought of life angers me that much". The closest thing to a friendly sun is Corona the Radiant Sun who has agreements with almost every major civilization to show up periodically and blast their farmlands with energy in exchange for being worshiped (suns don't feed on worship, Corona is just a massive narcissist, even by sun standards). On the other end of the spectrum there's Scorch the Merciless Sun whose hobby of nuking random villages was so unpopular that the three major kingdoms in its orbit put aside their differences and pooled their resources to try and kill it (they failed to kill Scorch but succeeded in banishing it through a hole in reality, it hasn't been seen since).

In general if you're in my setting and you see a ball of fire hurtling through the sky in your general direction you should probably bow just to be safe. They're extremely petty.

Consider this:
They cut the entire original approved movies list, just because. Took monumental edit war and eventually a DDoS to make them reconsider.
So considerting the level of damage anticipated and how it ended, I say it's workable.
2d4 meanwhile started out as 1:1 repository, but then the dumb fuck who set it up went with a machete across the pages, slashing whatever he felt like it, and openly saying that fuck keeping old shit, time to update.
Which is why 2d4 is now run by Korean spam bots, I guess

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Since you're porting stuff over, if I were you I would look into the Traveller rules for procedurally generating animals and convert them to GW/MF. They're meant for alien animals, but they should work alright for mutants, although they have no mutations of their own of course. You can then add mutations on top if you want to.
>>
>>97357798
I was actually thinking of using the re-release of those tmnt rpg rules for mutant animals and weird mutations. Traveler might be better just for general use though. Main issue is that the tmnt books are only available physically right now. How is After the Bomb or Mutants in the Now for that type of stuff? I know they are both the TMNT rpg with the license filed off.
>>
>>97358117
TMNT isn't something I've ever played or read, sorry. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

If you're happy to look at third-party stuff not really intended for Mutant Future (I don't know how compatible they are as I've never read MF, but it's probably closer than TMNT, I should think) I would recommend that you take a look at Planet Algol, a defunct blog for a weird sword and planet game that has a lot of material that you might be able to use.

>I am thinking of that room having a ladder up to a hatch right by the entrance of the dungeon - this being the lower level - to cut escaping players off.
I'm not sure I understand how a potential escape route might serve to cut the PCs off. Are you suggesting the dungeon inhabitants have reinforcements up there who will come down? Or is the idea that PCs will not find the ladder/not think to use it to flee if they do find it, and the undead will thus use it to get to the exit before the players and maul them there?

Anyway, as long as it's discoverable I can't personally see a huge issue with it as long as you're okay with the PCs using it to escape faster if they find it, instead. Multiple passages between levels is ideal.

Based uhh... *checks notes*
Based Games Workshop?!

Why would GW need to use AI? They've already refined themselves into a finely-tuned slop producing machine.
>>
>>97358641
Nah, now it' heckin based to hate AI, so that's what they do.

The witch hunt against things like Grok has already begun, the pretense is that it was used to generate pics of little girls covered in 'glue' (which is admittedly sick and wrong, but it's still not the real thing and thus should not get people v&), or pics of real life women in 'compromising situations'.

OTOH, fuck the AI companies for ruining the haradware market. Burn it all to ground.

New year new me edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

Well good for you, but the way I see it is Invention has 3 barriers to it being used effectively

>you need a GM who's permissive but also understands the vanilla game balance
>you need a player willing to invest in the Invention spec and also understands game balance
>you need a game in which you have the eddies/downtime to use it effectively

It's like having an effective Media or Netrunner. Sure there are tables that are able to use the roles effectively, but I think they're few and far between.

There's different tools for different types of world building but I give the edge to Cepheus. I am biased though.
I've been using Traveller (of which Cepheus is a variant) for decades to run my own settings. The tools for creating systems and sectors will help you make a setting quickly and the tech level standardization helps you manage setting consistency at a glance.
That said, I have a copy of SWN and have been using the random tables with my Traveller games. I find it a great resource.

It only uses d20 for attack rolls, everything else is 2d6. From what I remember (it's been awhile) it could easily be shoved into something like traveller relatively easily.

But, traveller (post mongoose) doesn't have the kind of complicated space ship combat you're talking about either. You haven't had to worry about vectors and shit in a sci-fi game since probably the eighties.

No. When attacking only resolves when you declare the attack. Since the attack was not declared after the new effect is online, it doesn't trigger.

Conversely, if a digimon gains a "End of Attack" effect while attacking, it will be applied after battling.

To be honest on some level having the players spare the Ork governor only to realize "Oops! Planet is overrun with Orks now!" Might be a great way to get them in the paranoid "Innocence Proves Nothing" mindset of the inquisition.

>>97352660
So I've got ideas on how to let the villains show the more nobler aspects of themselves in the story but with consequences to each. The Khorne traitor guardsmen might spare civilians in places they conquer and actually offer chances for loyalist guards to surrender, which for the Inquisitor's retinue means they're gonna have to do purges of guys who were loyalist not too long ago or willing to surrender.

For the Nurgle guy, maybe him and the Ecclesiarchy are both struggling over a pandemic and he "helpfully" tells the players that there are sick people trying to wash themselves in some "healing spring" that the Ecclesiarchy never bothers to clean and how he's worried its a vector for disease. Describe how it's all muck and slimy and the like (throwback to an anecdote Big E used in "The Last Church") and try to convince them to shut it down... only for it to turn out it really was a holy spring and by shutting it down the disease is ravaging even more people.

With the Tzeentch guy, it might be that the planet he's on is a mess of political intrigue and Administratum bureaucracy. He helps them cut through red tape and backs them up against an entitled and obstinate nobility, only for it to turn out that he's using them to solidify his own power so he can finally institute the reforms he wanted.

Finally for the Slaanesh guy I'm coming around to the idea of him maybe being a Griffith type that helps them throughout the story. There'll be a "fake out" Slaaneshi that's probably just a pirate while the real one is a Rogue Trader who'll probably wind up corrupted somehow, queue sacrificing his crew during a warp jump.

>Might be a great way to get them in the paranoid "Innocence Proves Nothing" mindset of the inquisition.
Seconding this. There's nothing that the inquisition likes more than someone taking a merciful or trusting option and getting instantly proven why the Inquisition does not do that shit. Very "constant vigilance!" type shit.

As far as Jimmy Space was concerned, they were for the most part stopgap measures while he's priming his Perfect Rationalist Utopia What Don't Need No More Warp Travel N Shit to finally be ready. He was running a galactic conquest, and he was fine with anything that made that galactic conquest quicker and more efficient, because he alone could just change any of it later. None of it was intended to become calcified and continue for ten thousand years.

It's mentioned in multiple places that Warp translation can hardly be done in a strong gravity well because going between dimensions while on one side your kilometers-long ship is being effected by the pull of a planet or a star may snap it in half, so I'd say either some sort of strong gravity generating device could dissuade and outright damage ships that try to enter or leave the Warp, or some equivalent of a Necron pylon or such that generates a null field could also act as a preventative measure. If you explain it with "xenos did it" or "archaeotech", anything can be plausible

Something I'll give the Owlcat games credit for: there are moments where you go against the advice of inquisitors and try to do the more "humane" option only to learn things are worse now because of it.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Dunno, man. I don't think they have historical accuracy as a main concern, guess it' just sounded cool
>>97357935
see>>97357991 >>97358033; by the setting's present time a lot of territory initially invaded by Hell has been in their grasp for some centuries. At first they have the corrupt and actual satanic cults on their side, over time it's just normal life for a lot of people born into it. I think it's kind of like Chaos in Warhammer, if you are exposed to it for long enough it twists your mind into thinking it's just fine and normal to be so

Starting to think the tank splitter on the prussians is a total scam
>Yeah all units are super squishy
>Heres a sword that rolls better ig, maybe you get a crit maybe
like yeah it could be good, but is the squish worth it?
In Campaign I have a Lieu with 3d to melee, its possible to crit sure, but the overall squish of my troops

IDK anyone here play Prussian, I could really use advice I dont think I "Get" them, Fire teams advice, builds, anything

Critical is the least of a tanksplitter's abilities
+1injury dice and auto 6 means that on average you're AT LEAST getting a down result on any -3 armor models
With a good Fireteam prep (ie a few shots from your mate and a grenade from you), you cash in all those blood markers
Without even a crit that's likely to flatten even the most armoured opponent
