If you want to talk about them, I mostly use rules as written (3E the last time I ran), though I play it kind of loose with NPC powers. As for the setting, I remove the Great Curse, have the Guild be mostly a Scavenger Lands organization with some presence in the rest of the East but not in other Directions, and have Peleps run just the Water Fleet rather than the whole Imperial Navy. There are some other things I've changed for my games, but those are the ones that come to my mind right now.

Related to that last thing, just why and how the fuck does Peleps even run the Imperial Navy in the first place? Letting a single House dominate the navy of an island nation that absolutely needs said navy to project power in the Threshold seems like an incredibly bad idea, and it also seems wildly out of character for the Empress, who's otherwise put in a lot of effort into making sure that no House or individual is in too strong a position. Sure, creation of V'Neef makes it clear that the Empress herself was worried about Peleps getting too powerful, but that doesn't make the fact that Peleps runs the Navy by Imperial remit in the first place any less nonsensical.

I think taking away the Imperial Fleet from House Peleps causes more narrative problems than it fixes. Their position in canon comes from their control of the navy. Controlling the entire navy gives them too much power, but if they only control the Water Fleet then they would be too weak.
My best justification is that the Empress knew that while she was alive she knew that she could control House Peleps by limiting their access to the imperial army or taking away the fleet if necessary. You could also say that the Empress gave House Peleps much fewer satrapies than the other houses, so they were completely dependent on the imperial fleet.

I'm a successful gamemaster and that's it. It's all I've ever been good at, ngl. I've run a 12 year campaign, a 9 year dragonlance campaign and my forgotten realms games is turning 41 this year (I started it when I turned 14) and yet, I've never been able to parlay any of this into any real success in the real world. My players still talk about all my games to this day. I'm miserable. I'm going to die alone and penniless. All that work, countless hours, wasted. I'll never amount to anything but dungeonsimulator 3000. No one gives a single, solitary fuck. My kids used to love to play rpgs with me are now too tired, too burnt out by the world, to care. All my friends are busy with marriages, jobs and kids. The thing is, even outside of a game, I care about all of these people. They ask me about a game all the time but when it comes time to actually play, no one can be bothered. Ig my time for all of this is done. I still love reading about it but I haven't made any oc in at least a year. My last game was meticulously planned and it went well but when it ended, that was it. No feedback, no atta boy, no joy, nothing. How do you guys cope with it?

I think some people make a living being a paid professional dungeon master. That could be something to look into, even though I understand that the main reason you did it is to bring joy to your friends and family, and it wouldn't be the same doing it for random people that pay you money to do it.

But, at least, that could be a way to make money with your skills, and if you somehow pivoted into making a good youtube production with your games (getting help from people that know that stuff), that could also start something that can get you more ways to get money, through merchandise, sponsorships, what have you.

To be generous to the underclock, it's a gimmick that was invented by someone without the desire to ever play past lvl 5 (he put that in his shitbrew, forced retirement if you get too much xp). There are many more interesting ways to make the game interesting without turning the random enounter rate into it's own mini game.

And D&D i would add, the rationale here is that SW compliments a specific playstyle and genre (action packed heroics) that a lot of d&d groups clash with due to d&d being more focused on skirmish and attrition making any deviation from that well oiled machine feel dissociated at best (when rules exist) or completely arbitrary at worst (the DM intervening through exception based rulings like applying "rule of cool" because the rulesystem actively works against those situational contexts).
A good example of that is for example Brancalonia (that i'm actually working in making a sw conversion), where they made a new subsystem for tavern brawls, which, by my players words, feels completely dissociated from the standard game and overtly mechanized.

I ran my first game of SW ever to two people who only play vidya and paint figurines and to one completely normal non-nerd woman, and everyone involved had a great time and the non-nerd was actually on top of the combat rules and applied hindrances where it fit. Went so well I'll have two more normies to wrangle for next session.

The highest form of cyoa gameplay is contemplation
We contemplate waifus, contemplate weapons and strategies
And unlike other names, the emphasis on contemplation is really a thing we do differently from literally every other type of game

So, I would like to ask that "Contemplation Game" is added to the list of names this general might have

So, fun fact. The Explorer Corps main two missions was find and catalog all the known SLDF caches and secondarily, contact old Deep Periphery colonies and find the path of the Exodus Fleet.

So most of the Comstar goodies not in service were just the random caches that people would stumble across, occasionally. At least until the Blakists emptied most everything they could get their hands on in the Jihad.
