Douchemachine used to be the largest competition to GW. Now look at it and laugh
>>97354719>Literally falseLegacy armies DO NOT include all models in the old factions, in fact most are very curated.Furthermore, they're purely a gameplay concession and nothing more. Most of the casters are dead, most of the units and warjacks don't exist anymore in lore, you are no longer collecting something that is relevant to any continued world building and the setting didn't do the Battletech thing of having separate eras that are all supported. They're also bad for the game, because now half the tournament legal armies in the game are quite literally unable to be purchased. If a legacy army becomes meta, it either gets nerfed fast or the cost to entry skyrockets past GW prices.Again, this could have been avoided if every original faction had some representation by now, but if you wanted to play Skorne and don't already own it? Get fucked retard. Menoth? Wait 3 years for Adepticon 2026. Mercenaries? Circle? Kill yourselves. They found a solution for the sweatest of tournament scenes but neglected to do anything to generate interest in new players. Paywalling ALL the Mk4 lore behind the FUCKING PHONE APP was the dumbest decision they could have made.Jesus Christ, just release PDFs so people can at least TALK about it before they pay any money.GW does so well because there are a million onboarding points for random dorks to be exposed to 40k prior to being funneled into buying plastic crack.Mk1/Mk2 had plenty of discussion on /tg/ back in the day, and great word of mouth in stores that was supported by physical lore books that could be seen in person before purchase.Comment too long. >>97353578>OSR is alt rightA very vocal group of AD&D 1e literalists that are somehow in the BAPsphere on Twitter are not reflective of the larger OSR, or the politics of the authors in the 70s-90s.For every Jethro, there are many Patrick Stuarts, Scrap Princesses, etc.
>>97332225>Infinity is way too complex and niche. Soicast also made all the details on their minis soft. They did well in N4 to remove spanglish and nested rules, but rebloated in N5. Lore is actually bad, it's very boring, bland and generic. I remember when Toni Macayana died, everyone just asked when they'll rerelease the tikbalang. No one cares at all. They made the biggest mistake of trying to become more mainstream. Infinity used to have anime aesthetics, hot female minis, and more grounded designs. They used to set the trends that even GW tried following, and made miniatures so incredible it crashed their own website. Now it's all capeshit, safe bland designs, NA2, and some of the most retarded looking minis like the new MAF, SP and CA. They're now constantly chasing trends, every army plays like herohammer, and they're constantly fighting SKU bloat by discontinuing armies while introducing new ones. All for the 'mainstream' audience that will never give them the light of day especially with 40k dominating that audience and the fact that they do not have good PR no matter how many influencers they pay.
>>97354640They proved to be incompetent by not retaining people during/after the covid lockdowns. Most of those new customers didn't stay very long after the lockdowns lifted, and realized the model kits were extremely expensive. However, you're not wrong about their IP having reach, because even if they're not buying kits, they're buying games and eventually other media (when/if the amazon slop comes out?). GW still makes a ton of money from licensing and potentially bringing in more people into their product ecosystem regardless of how long they stay. Battletech does have games, but I dont know how popular they are. Corvus Belli is trying to get their trash aristeia game into vidya, and they supposedly have a movie being made.
>>97330812There are options at the large army scale, but all the games that ask you to bring more than 20-30 models are mostly model agnostic rulesets that are being sold. Outside of historical minis, most of what comes to mind is fantasy rank and spanks that exist fill in for Warhammer Fantasy being dead for a decade: Mantic Kings of War and Oathmark.
Was the Satanic Panic REALLY that bad or has it been overblown over the decades?

It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind. These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles. But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status. There is no shortage of men in peril.Neither in classic nor in modern art.

>>97354074This is my advice if you are going to play casually with friends, but you aren't going to play at an LGS at all>Play Speed DuelsOR>Play some casual format with limitations (domain, trinity, common charity, and so on).OR>Play Time Travel(easier)/Time Wizard
>>97357454I'm going to recommend against this unless your group of friend have never touched the game before. It is a lot easier to start at Advanced and work your way downward from Advanced -> Genesys -> Legacy formats (TOSS, HAT, Edison, GOAT) -> Speed Duel than it is to do the opposite. There's also no real shortage of casual decks in every one of those formats I mentioned.
>>97352453>>97352989So dice are out of the table, can I use bottle caps or coins instead? I'm playing Enneacraft currently and I honestly felt very comfortable using dice for counters.
>>97359520Yes. Bottlecaps and coins are legal counters, as long as each individual counter is represented by an individual coin or bottlecap (coins are also the most commonly-used counter). You could probably also find some models for counters pretty easily, if 3d printing is an option.
>>97359520You can use dice just fine. You can't use the faces to represent counters, but you can use the individual dice for that ie 2 counters = 2 dice. It's far better like this since most fancy deck boxes have a compartment for dice, meaning there's a lower chance of cheating since you can just pull them out/store them as needed.
