I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

I am afraid I do not see the issue. There is really nothing stopping you from flavoring your Mutant's abilities as grotesquely as possible and taking a high-Magnitude Conspicuous Appearance Scar. You could also take the Outsider Form if you want to be an actual alien.

>I'd rather it was telling you not so subtly to build Alex Mercer, y'know?
The [PROTOTYPE] series is listed as one of the inspirations in Shallow Graves.
>>
>>97217938

One aspect of the space opera genre in Black Vans that I find goofy, in a good way, is how even the lowest-powered (but still, of course, capable of mowing down goons due to the goon combat rules), just-a-bit-more-than-mortal characters are capable of toppling an interstellar empire in a fairly short amount of time. They do not even need the backing of a full-on rebellion.

Somewhat like Star Wars, except taken to a more blatant extreme.
>>
Sick thread, been looking to get into Deviant for a while, thanks for all the info
>>
Is it possible to 'deconstruct' a different splat with Deviant? Basically making a dude that has all the powers and weaknesses of a vampire, but it's not a vampire? Like, a lab-made recreation of what a vampire should be like

They always tell you to try not playing D&D, but they never tell you that basically every game other than 5e is almost exclusively played by autistic (and not the fun kind) powergaming social retards who either never say a word, or only communicate by being the loudest one talking over everyone else about their hyperfixation that nobody else gives a fuck about. The kind of people who post anime girl reaction memes and go "this is my character's face right now" or unironically show up with cropped porn as their character art like it's normal.

There's a reason nobody touched this hobby until they saw fellow normies playing it on some podcast, I wouldn't even want to talk to the average sperglord who plays these games let along be stuck with them for 4 hours in a game that is supposed to be about social interaction.

The thread to talk about Super Heroes/Villains/Spies/Agents/Rogues be it in spandex or not.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

Hey, I was just starting to watch the third season of Invincible, and I was wondering, what are some supers settings worth looking at for ideas/inspiration on one’s own besides DC and Marvel, and what’s appealing about them? There’s Invincible of course, and Worm, but I haven’t checked out Aberrant yet, and not sure what else works.

Eh, I kinda saw this coming, just because it's the same thing that happened earlier in the game with blockers/floodgates.
Bandai saw something slowing the game down, makes removal easier until the only way to win is OTK because nothing sticks on the board after you pass turn. I still think they should have printed a "floodgate" keyword so they could print cheap removal that affects only them/blockers, and give decks answers to things that stall their game plan without fucking over every card in existence. Just like they should have printed more your turn protection to deal with aces instead of letting every deck clear level 5s for free.
I'm curious to see if dual cards give some sort of viable defensive option to kick the cycle off again, but I can't see how. Unless they're security bombs stapled to consistency cards, so security can actually be relevant again.
>>
>>97259872
Im new to the game. What exactly are "floodgates"? I have seen them mentioned but dont really know what it means
>>
>>97260577
It's a term borrowed from Yugioh, and in our case it refers to the rookies that are designed to slow the game down by preventing your opponent from gaining memory or cheating costs. "Can't gain memory except by Tamer effects," "Can't reduce play costs," "Can't play Digimon by effects," rookies with those kind of effects.
>>
>>97260621
>It's a term borrowed from Yugioh
If people aren't allowed to use U for Blue, then you can't use the term "floodgate".
>>
>>97260708
Oh get over yourself already you fucking autist, nobody is even talking about that anymore.

>that would necessitate a general habit among all outsiders of never using names at all, wouldn't it?
Titles and pseudonyms exist, with the former being a great fit for Devils given the Infernal Hierarchy.

>ie. if there were demons pestering a kingdom, the standard response wouldn't be
>>send heroes to find the demon
>it would be
>>Clerics play Scrabble via Commune,
>>hand the name over to the mages. Summon the demon leaders one by one to a prison fort and execute them on the spot.
Commune is a 5th-level spell costing 100 XP a pop, only gives a yes-or-no answer, and requires the deity contacted know. Then the Planar Binding spells you'd be using to drag them before you are limited to 6 HD for a 5th, 12 HD for a 6th, and 18 HD for an 8th.

The base of knowledge and casting to pull this off already qualifies as "send heroes to find the demon" by most settings' level-scaling conventions, and it's a rather costly approach to such.
>>
>>97257296
NWN gives Truenames a sort of unconditional, no-save / no-res power over creatures that I haven't really seen being portrayed as such in any splat. Do any of the novels treat them that way as well or nah?

I feel like barghests are underused, and would fit with the goblinoids.

>Heroforge mini shows up broken

>>
>>97257089
Given that many Fiends have at-will teleportation abilities, I feel like the kingdom would only be able to get away with picking off individual demons one by one like this a couple of times before their clerics and other mages would start getting targeted or otherwise assassinated, either by the demons themselves or cultists/hired guns paid for their bounties.

Elara was leaning against a pillar, completely mesmerized. Her face was flushed, her breath was shallow, and her thumb was nervously tracing the rim of her cup. As the minstrel hit a particularly soulful high note, Elara unconsciously bit her lower lip, her gaze fixed on the singer’s throat.

Nadya’s tail gave a slow, predatory twitch. She saw the "maths" of desire written all over the other woman.

"Careful, Little Bird," Nadya rasped, her voice cutting through the music like a serrated blade. "You bite that lip any harder, you will bleed into your wine. Is waste of good vintage."

Elara jumped, her face turning a shade of crimson that rivaled a sunset. "Nadya! I... I wasn't... the music is just very moving."

Nadya hopped down from the sill, landing with a silent, heavy grace. She leaned into Elara’s space. She looked at the minstrel, then back at Elara, a slow, mocking smirk pulling at her scarred lip.

"He has eyes like a kicked puppy and hands that have never seen a day of real work," Nadya whispered. ," Nadya whispered. "Pretty, yes. But if ghouls come? Pizdets. Total pizdets. He will be screaming like a girl while they chew his throat." Hr voice dropping into that dark, 'inappropriate' register she used when she wanted to rattle someone. "But the way he moves his hips when he hits the low notes? Da. Is very 'moving.' Makes the blood go to interesting places, yeah?"

Elara sputtered, "I—that is a very crude way of putting it!"

"Is honest way," Nadya countered. She leaned an inch closer, her gold eyes glinting with a mischievous, sharp light. "You want to take him behind the hay-wain and see if he sings as well when he is breathless? Or are you just going to stand here and melt like a candle in a furnace?"

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

I know the dangers of vampires, they're no easy targets. I've been preparing her for a while, teaching her everything from firearms handling and homemade explosives to exorcism rituals and surveillance so I hope she'll manage it. I'm interested in seeing how she behaves or a real assignment, a pile of ash is a pile of ash (or a stiff), doesn't matter how she does it. Of course, I'll have someone really close, someone she has never seen before and won't have a reason to suspect. To answer your question - ghouls are slaves to the vampire, doing their master's dirty work. They consume the tainted blood of a vampire in return for a fraction of it's power. They don't die to sunlight or any other vampire-specific weakness, bullets and fire still work. I was considering them because they could be easier to capture (in theory) but they're still human, I don't know if she's ready for dealing with that yet.

>>97259391
A holy ward is never a bad idea but everyone who's capable of performing such miracles is either too far away or unable to help. I'm not really a specialist when it comes to hauntings, I know the basic methods of dealing with spooks but I'm not confident in sending her to deal with something I'm not that experienced with.
>she gets turned, all her family & friends get killed, & your cell get compromised.
I hope not, I'd be a shame to lose such a promising recruit. That's also the reason she's being kept in the dark for now.

>>97259438
Plenty of vampires in big cities. They're inhuman enough to justify killing, all these silly folk tales and legens do wonders. I've mad sure it's a weak one, been watching it for 2 weeks. Still following the same routine, trying to blend in with humans. They're great actors, pretending to care about their "family" and such, even when no one is looking. These ones are usually the weakes when it comes to my and my friends experience.
>>
>>97255909
I don't know the demon in my book is pretty chill when he doesn't want out or is demanding my life essence. I'd be remiss to listen to his ramblings though, seems a tad unstable. Tells me to "watch out for the machines" whatever that means.
>>
>>97243514
Funnily enough our invitation to the England gathering does have a crow on it. Apparently it'll be multiple day event, there'll be a costumed ball and everything. I'm not entirely comfortable with them asking me to bring the chair though.
>>97245407
Well I didn't mean to assume, I had just remembered from earlier Fed discussion. Perhaps they might be less careless employers, I don't know. Best of luck with your kraken hunt, the submersible looks useful but dangerous.
>>
>>97260252
Oh that is definitely pointing to the Abbey. I hope you are well off, they get picky about their dues. Sounds like the chair and the party is, perchance, leading to an execution to top off the ball. That or a hunt involving the werewolf. One can never be too sure unless you know the host. I am going to be stricken with envy if it isn't an execution. Positively green with envy, I can feel it.
Also feel free to tell me if I overstep, but could you ask your little friend in the book if they know anything about a rituals of renewal that happen at the year's turn? Everything I found about this script circle translates it as such but I can feel things are a miss and it is driving me up the wall.
>>
>>97259929
>To answer your question - ghouls are slaves to the vampire, doing their master's dirty work.
Shit man, I know about Renfields. Why call them ghouls though? They drink their master's blood, they don't eat flesh.

I still think you're playing this a bit risky anyway. So many things can go wrong and get a promising young hunter killed through no fault of their own.

Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art. How would plants grow with constant sunlight, would they still need have cycles of producing sugars if they can just get all their energy from a constant source? How do the people dissipate heat on the sun side?
>>
>>97256935
In real world it was a fairly nebulous term (I don't think it actually was an official ship classification in the same way light cruiser or armored cruiser were) but primarily referred to a cruiser with battleship-scale guns.
In this case it's just a terminology difference. The humans refers to ships bigger and more heavily armed than cruisers as battleships, While the Seirans consider their biggest ships to be more heavily armed and armored versions of their standard cruisers, and so call them battlecruisers or heavy cruisers. Seiran battleships/battlecruisers also do perform more like big cruisers, since they're fast for their size and there's more overlap in armament size between them and cruisers.
>>
>>97256935
Now you triggered my autism. Basically there's multiple flavors battlecruisers.
The one people think of is usually the british flavor. A battleship sized ship, with downstripped armor (enough to stand up to cruisers, but might as well be paper against proper battleships) standard battleship caliber guns but less of them (they usually lost a turret compared to a battleship of the same era) and more speed. They were designed to destroy cruisers and act as scouts, and since scouting groups were usually made of cruisers, to destroy enemy scouts and screens. They won't last long in the line of battle because no fucking armor as the bongs learned painfully when their battlecruisers started exploding during the battle of Jutland. Although there's more to it than that, the battlecruisers had dropped all ammo handeling safety to achieve higher firerates, so good hits were likely to blow the entire thing up.

The other is the Imperial German flavor. Also battleship sized, fast enough to keep up with cruisers, with better armor and the same number of guns but at the low end of what you'd consider battleship scale. These were meant to fill the same role as the british BCs, but were also intended to survive in the line of battle, hence the better armor compared to british BCs. They actuall held up okay during Jutland, although there were plenty of losses anyway.

Battlecruisers eventually became obsolete with technonlogical improvment. Once fast battleships became a thing (just before or during WW2), there was no longer a need for a ship that sacrificed armor and/or firepower for speed. You could have a proper battleship going fast, why build a battlecruiser? Things like ships carrying floatplanes for scouting also meant the role of destroying scouts could no longer be fully fulfilled by them.
>>
>>97256935

Think of it as a Glass Cannon: Battleship Armament + Cruiser Armor. The problem is that they were rarely used this way and they just grouped them together with Battleships, wasting their speed advantage, and ending in battle roles for which they weren't designed for. Also Battleships eventually became just as fast as Battlecruisers making the later obsolete.

Man, I don't care what anyone says about AI. Being able to use it to create variants on the same image is so useful for creating aliens for my sci-fi game.
Life is too long to spend forever pissing around on pinterest.

Most of the people kvetching about AI images are furry/tranny artfags pissed off they aren't multimillionaires yet. I pay them no heed.

Nah, I use Obsidian to keep my notes and write up together and just throw them in there and Foundry VTT which I use to run the actual game/keep the mechanics in.

>-2 cards is the main issue
See I haven't gotten enough hands on experience with the game to know if these synergies will pay off, but the existance of them makes me want to build decks to figure them out. In theory a ramping effect can be good for a large monsters and or angels deck. The game is subtly different in how it evaluates drawing and cheating in cards, so it inherently looks useful but only if you can put that mana to use. Theoretically, a "void matters" deck doesn't want to spend too much time building up sites to get the max benefit of the remaining void spaces.

Look, it's even using the same playbook for hating on FAB! They have nothing actually against Sorcery, yet they must seethe every time it's brought up. What's hilarious is this game is the furthest removed as possible from AI because it showcases traditional artwork only.

Just flag useless posts like that and move on. The trolls can't actually hurt you.

And six... is a blatant provocation*. Pardon, I'm somewhat distracted by Tats and plentiful threats of excessive violence she's making, mostly aimed at me, and five other things that are somewhat on fire.

'Exciting' is a way to phrase it, but, frankly, I'll take this over having to deal with that monstrosity you unfortunately are near, and every unsupervised Discipline-aided public nuisance trying to do something dangerous with it.

The Prince of Bridgeport thanks you for sharing reports on your situation; while that abomination is not quite something any of us can possibly deal with, were it to suddenly start moving towards Connecticut, being aware of it is comforting, in a way. There's got to be a finite number of giant under-lake beasts, and being able to account for one of them is nice.

It is... Curious.
Multiple different stories from radically different sources echoing one another. Just enough matches. I cannot wholly trust any one of the dozen or so stories delivered but...

Perhaps this is hell.

Were it that I could go back to hiding in my hole a few weeks ago. Or gone with my gut instinct when all this kicked off and started walking Westward.

It is out of my hands. All I can do is offer my council once- if- the last of the invading war party is dealt with. More the fool I am to walk the path of compassion. Ironic.

Again though, my thanks blood.

The bastard we interrogated was more knowledgeable about the history of the NSDAP than a typical US neo-nazi. He believes The Protocols is a forgery - even though he agrees with it - the US didn't enter WW2 just to fight anti-semitism, the nazis admired Henry Ford who published anti-semitic shit and so on.
We immediately, correctly suspected he belonged to a more European flavor of organization.

Here's what we have:
A) "Bridgeport Citizens Volunteer Militia" (our nickname), typical US far right "rifle association" madmen
B) European-style far right social center. This is not your friendly neighborhood community center, this is some two dozen neo-nazi squatters in an abandoned, illegally occupied warehouse. In exchange for sleeping in that shithole they do "activism", i.e. protests, violence, theft, racketeering...
C) Your alley of drug dealers giving fentanyl zombies their fix

It's a triangular commerce, where:
- the militia trains, radicalizes and recruits the "best" from the social center
- the social center makes sure the money from the dealers arrives on time, they also bully citizens out of their money (THE ASSHOLES HOPED TO ROB OUR MANSION AND OTHERS ON XMAS)
- the dealers extract money from fentanyl zombies (and we speculate, get hostile kindred some bodies)
- the money goes to fund the militia's weapons and activities

The neo-nazi seemed to be legitimately clueless about the existence of kindred. They probably don't know they're being used by them. I can imagine food and drinks contaminated with vitae as a way to ghoul them.
Militias are typically armed to the teeth and paranoid about being infiltrated, which is why we'd rather solve the issue the Brujah way than the Toreador way, this time.
To count some heads, House Venus is a coterie of 6 quasi-ancillae, plus one quasi-Elder with her fledgling. They can add drones, "land-drones" (robot dolls), and military grade-ordnance for example anti-materiel rifles, fully-automatic shotguns, LMGs, explosives, etc. as force multipliers.
