>Warhammer 40k designed by a lazy Serb
As much as I like 40k alternatives and some of the art is kinda cool the setting feels like an afterthought, like if warhammer was just when some guy found all of John Blanche's art and made a setting out of it.
>>
>>97380416
>>97381534
The real main thing is that it was remembered quite well and people enjoyed the setting and characters
>>
>>97381857
Some parts of the setting are very cool but I feel like for Christianhammer the guys doing it very poorly researched the historical setting and the religions. It's kind of like Eva but if it was honest from the start

Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

>Lodros, the City of Words-Where the Primordial He Who Bleeds the Unknown Word fell in battle, his corpse ripe with bleeding language who inspired two Exalted to forge the titan-flesh into a city by stretching “beauty” tight across its length, using “street”, “wall” and “secure” to detail it’s depths and discarding words like “useless” or “uninteresting” resulting in a city that communicates privately with visitors to ensure they feel welcome and never
lost.
Sounds cool but I thought the word Primordial was Elloge who's still alive. Maybe Elloge reincarnated like Adorjan.
Since it's a 1st age city I wonder what are the odds it would still be around in the age of sorrows.
>>
>>97376802
The labels in the map are fanmade, but 3e made most places smaller than 1e or 2e, even if Creation as a whole is larger.
>>97377022
It's roughly accurate though. All the named Haltan cities from the AT8D maps are around that area.
>>
>>97380940
It is her before hers transition.

>Elloge, the Sphere of SpeechThe results of fetich death are unexpected, but not always nightmarish. For example, the rebirth of the Primordial known as He Who Bleeds the Unknown Word was the female Yozi Elloge
>>
>>97380940
Nah see, it was. Primordials just die weird. It's like how He Who Holds In Thrall's tomb-body is over there, but also the Hekatonkhiere that was his fetich is just floating around as a big ominous cube.

>1st age city
If I had to guess it's probably in a state like Rathess, a beautiful husk of it's former glory. Who knows in 3e, though? In 3ePrimordial Organs can apparently fester into independent monsters.

It doesn't say anything about sneak attacks so drop the discreet part, and without that the broadsword would be easier.

>won't respect historically accurate weapons
Your complaint about lack of history accuracy in a game is about gamefied damage mechanics, which is just poor decision making, not the ignorant and incorrect labelling of a longsword as two handed and of a "medieval" setting's broadsword as one handed?

>make sure you're safe
I don't know if I should be flattered you care or offended you think I'm incapable of defending myself. I shall arrive shortly. I won't be staying as I'm needed elsewhere.

In House Venus shadows begin to flicker and shift as through a large shadow on the wall steps a tall figure, shadows wisping off of him, the figure looks at Mercury with piercing purple eyes, hands her/him a box with a little label that says 'To House Venus' he then vanishes as quickly as he came. With his leave the room feels lighter and the shadows quiet down. the box is to be opened with all of House Venus present. Inside is a note and a small vial of clear liquid. the note reads: "This is all I managed to acquired from Boy Toy before he passed, a vial containing his tears, they were all that survived the destabilization. -Kakophoni" [they are actually Boy Toy's tears]
>>
>>97381054
we pay a great price for our eternity

Mercury Lamp looks like a 12 year old girl with blonde curls and blue eyes in a cream Victorian dress, she approached Kakophoni without any fear and with rigid movements worthy of a a doll, in fact she looks too much like a doll. She looked at both Kakophoni and his gift with the same calm a kine would have for a timely Amazon delivery.

She accepted said gift with both hands outstretched and a light bow, and will obediently wait for the right time to open it. She managed to say: "Welcome thank you farewell." in an dispassionate robotic monotone, she appeared to be more interested in the wall behind Kakophoni than him.
Mercury Lamp's aura looks like a pure white canvas with a flickering gold border and multiple sparkles, it's indistinguishable from a human aura in term of intensity and opacity.

Man of Florida is a 6'2'' tall, sharply dressed, hairless African-American Tzimisce Antitribu gentleman in his early 50s with complex scarification patterns all over his skin, but he doesn't show much skin, as he wears a Regency-era dark blue short slip waistcoat with a strangely thin waistline, and a high collar and trousers that make his figure appear taller, and a big, kind smile.

He bowed in the manner of an European aristocrat from 2 centuries ago, and rushed in, in the hope to at least shake Kakophoni's hand, but the guest left too soon. Don't worry, he took it well, with a smile, and elegantly bid adieu. You couldn't have paired Mercury Lamp with a more dissimilar person.
His aura is a womanly mix of lavender, pink and violet, it's even paler than the average vampire.
>>
>>97381414
Ensuring the safety of a guest is standard protocol and includes comfort and safety from unpleasant noises, not simply life-threatening situations. It was never my intention to be rude or question your fighting prowess and survival ability, thank you for the feedback, please forgive me.
Yeah Mercury Lamp is weirdest thing in a house of fucking weirdos
>>
>>97382287
It's fine, little one. Have your family let me know how they like the gift. -Kakophoni
not completely weird compared to some of House Scholar but definitely different. Also I can't wait to see Venus and Scarlet's reaction to the vial of tears gift. Kakophoni isn't being a dick, it's a genuine gift though he doesn't realize they might not see it that way.

The daemonic essence still returns to its patron god and its "realm" to reform. It won't reform instantly, but it will still reform eventually. Once again, perma-killing daemons is usually done a handful of ways.
>>
>>97382022
Okay so a sword that got so good at killing daemons it can banish them back to the warp or their patron god if in the warp is fine?
>>
>>97381581
As already said, true death is a fairly unique ability. If it's an especially high stakes, high power campaign, a sword of true death could be a legitimate relic to dangle in front of them. Ultimately it depends on the campaign. If it's just a cool toy for them to lust after, then daemons recoiling from its presence would seem pretty reasonable however, or weakening their ability to manifest in realspace around it, or simply banishing them to the warp for a few centuries. If the players want the weapon to kill a specific daemonic foe, you could give them a prophecy for that daemon to be totally destroyed by that specific weapon or some such.
>>
>>97382283
Banishing to the warp for a few centuries is fine with me if that’s reasonable, I need something that would be something that could turn the tide of a battle, something valuable enough that the Ordo Malleus would send a covert team to try and infiltrate a deamon port world to obtain. Would it be fine to say the sword did a true death exactly one time in the past under specific circumstances? I like the idea of daemons cowering at “the blade that killed that one guy”
>>
>>97382061
A sword that is so blessed it increases the time a daemon needs to spend reforming would be highly valued, especially if it's on the Nihilus side of things where every advantage counts.

PICREL is the first brief I came up with (I have more details if you guys think this is interesting).

I have a few other scenarios planned including:
>Starting a drug war between rival Hutt and Zann syndicate to destabilize a mid-rim sector. Goal is to install a controlled opposition.
>Security breach is resulting in ISB agents in the field being burned, suggesting a mole. Some security transmission have been followed by rapid starfighter strikes to the ISB locations. Lines of communications to and from the Empire are now compromised
>Infiltrate a rebel cell and determine a location of a meeting held by various ex-senator rebel planetary leaders before it happens. Goal is then to decide the approach on killing or apprehending the senators once they are gathered
>A prequel mission where you are called by the Devastator (pre BoY) to some backwater planet callet Tatooine. You're instructed to disguise yourselves as stormtroopers and track down a pair of missing droids (mission critical). Leads will eventually take you to a farmhouse with an old couple.
> False flag attack on imperial remnants/competing warlords
>You are sent to observe and advise a corporate sector authority to arrest an old CIS war criminal. Twist: the advisors the party is attached to are complete fuck-ups.
>Party is sent very deep to infiltrate an imperial high security prison (perhaps Kessel?) to "rescue" a COG/ISB agent so they can connect him with a Rebel arms dealer. Twist: the imprisonment of the ISB agent is a plant and the "rescue" is to establish credibility with the COG to plant them with the arms dealer's crew

A few other missions I've worked out
>Quiet Election: DZ-1539- Planetary senator on Ketaris is set to formally orient with an independence movement. Intelligence shows that overt action is likely to cause planetary resources to divert and open rebellion. This system needs to remain intact. You have three standard days to prevent the announcement by any means necessary without creating a martyr.
> Last LIGHT (DZ-16045)- A joint naval-ISB counter-terrorism unit conducted an annual simulated operation in the Nar Shaddaa sector. During said exercise, simulated actors initiated a real attack on the operatives- killing or capturing many of them. Fleet and Army assets cannot be mobilized to avoid this becoming public, raise the attention of the local Hutts, and draw precious assets away from Core Rim operations. You are the closest operational team and must identify the attackers, minimize civilian fallout, and ensure no record survives of the original operation. This includes those purview to the original operation.
>Operation Dark Mirror (DZ-1855)- Mid-level imperial officials of the Abrion Sector have been exhibiting some concerning patterns including selective mercy, over compliance with local authorities, and delay in enforcement of imperial edict. Your job is to perform an audit, perform loyalty tests, and identify if these officials remain compliant with the cause without causing them to defect.
>>
>>97373020
>>97379345
NTA but I'm gonna piggyback off this with a simple question. Where can I play as the Empire? I want to be a stormtrooper.
>>
So, what are the implications of a new man at the wheel?
>>
>>97382154
Depends. Filoni is very much like Lucas in that "For every great idea, he has 40 terrible ones, then insists on doing all 41" If Brennan is there to hold the water bottle and spritz him every time he tries doing something stupid, then we may actually have a bright future ahead of us. However, if Brennan is just there so that Disney can save face and go "Look, guys, it wasn't because a woman was head of Star Wars that it sucked ass for 15 years" and she doesn't control him, then we are going to be in for a whole lot of shit with a few legitimately bright sparks inbetween.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Say the party encounters a group of enemies fighting in a formation with two swordsmen in the front and two spearmen attacking from the second rank.
1. If a party member charges, would the entire formation be entitled to an attack first if their weapons are all longer than the fighter's weapon?
2. Can the second rank brace their spears against the charge, or would they have to be in the first rank?
3. If the Fighter chooses to close into combat, would that prevent the second rank of spearmen from attacking in the first round of initiative, or only the first rank?

Ring makes you disappear?
Bombadil makes ring disappear.

He looks through the ring, winking at the hobbits.
His eye represents here the eye of Sauron himself, but of a kindly blue aspect.

Pure pottery.

I love this allegory
>>
Tolkien translates orc speech into a crass English working class dialect, and this is extremely deliberate.

Their affect represents that of many regular soldiers, men he once knew.

This isn't any kind of hatefulness on his part, it's a commentary on what war and industrialist society does to people.

>>97381453
It gets better.
The finishing of the quest, in the destruction of the ring and the ending of the tale, had a similar kind of effect on Tolkien as it did on Sauron.

It's something I think would resonate with many authors.

For Tolkien, the theme of not using the ring and keeping it from Sauron is a kind of metaphor for the continual upkeep of his own conceit and framing device. That he is not truly the author, merely a translator and editor.
And far from the first editor at that. The first being Samwise, then a certain scribe of Gondor, amd sonon through the ages; as the story is passed down it takes on a kind of nature as a patchwork tapestry.

Truly the pitbulls of Middle Earth

Why can't Druids wield bows?

>bow: wood
>arrow: wood
>arrowhead: bone or flint

Even crossbows can be made wholly of wood and shoot bone-tipped bolts. If anything, making these things actually requires very good understanding of trees and properties of wood.
Regardless of all that, the whole non-metal theme is a meme. If you can cook stuff in a bronze cauldron, you should be allowed to use a bronze helmet too.

Actually, the cities are paying for YOUR retardation, if you look at the numbers.
This is why they have such influence- they pay for you to live.

Ah, so you are unfamiliar with the concept of paying for something.

You see, paying is when you exchange something for something else. In this case, this means that california is not PRODUCING the grains, it is merely offering something (money) for them.
Or rather, it's offering this money to the american government, which then heavily subsidizes the farmers to such an extent that america basically feeds the world now.
