So the hundreds of noncombat careers are there just to trick you?
>>
>>97341506
Have you considered that you made a choice to specialize in a non-combat role in a game where you can choose either/or?

You can still fight, in the same way a fighter can still haggle with a merchant; but you chose not to specialize in that task.

A roleplaying game is about choices.
You chose not to be a fighter in a violent world.
That means you have to be smart, and think quickly; get out of danger, flee, summon help, come prepared with a useful item like a firepot, or a low-skill weapon like a crossbow, that you can use coward-tactics with.
Duh.
>>
>>97341805
What the fuck are you rambling about, retard? If you're not playing a combat career then you can't fight for shit.
>>

2026 Edition!
Since a lot of the links were duds in last year's thread, I've decided not to post them. If anyone has suggestions for the OP moving forward, feel free to share.
>What is this thread?
A place to share your armies from any and all war/skirmish games.
Though it's increasingly a lost art, /your dudes/ has been the lifeblood of wargaming and especially skirmish games for a while now...let's keep the dream alive!
Bonus points for org charts, livery, lore, and especially any pics of models in action!
>Thread Questions
What are /your dudes/ bad at?
When was the last time /your dudes/ touched a table?
What do you plan to do with /your dudes/ in the new year?
I'll begin.
>The Athonian 33rd is absolutely dogshit at trench / frontline warfare
They struggle horribly with holding open ground and dealing with anti-air, relying heavily on fellow Imperial factions to buttress them in this.
>My boys got their debut in a Dark Heresy game run by a friend
To my pride they managed to not only die in droves like standard guard, but have pulled off some impressive feats in the course of the campaign. They even were the relief forces when the party got caught in a Black Hawk Down type crash in the middle of Ork-infested territory.

Contributing cause this could be a good thread.
Mocked up a quick rough-and-ready Order of Battle. Nothing near your detail or quality, but I will work on it when I have the time.

>What are /your dudes/ bad at?
Acting as a breakthrough force, usually in support of the Krieg Siege Regiments, they're bad at static, attritional warfare.
>When was the last time /your dudes/ touched a table?
Late last year, I have a narrative thing going on with my mate who runs Tiamet Tyranids, so I have had them acting in support of the Karlist V Light Infantry that they eventualy fight against. I wrote a short battle rep in the form of a POV of the Karlist Officer which I found suprisingly fun to write.
>What do you plan to do with /your dudes/ in the new year?
Hopefully finish off collecting and painting the last of B Company

I can't get the PDF to attach so I'm going to put the first of three pages on here

A couple years ago my friends and I put together a Kill Team Campaign all based around Vraks. As the resident Alpha Legion fanboy I took the role of The Faithless, the Alpha warband involved in the conflict.
Although I had to sell them during a move, they hold a really special place in my heart, in part for being what I bet will be the last time I get to use bits from the old Chaos Marines box since they're out of production.
TQs:
>What our /your dudes/ bad at
My guys gained a reputation for having heinous bad luck streaks, notably one where a distraction grot managed to survive an ungodly number of attacks all from the same Legionnaire. This evolved in our shared lore to the Kill Team having a 'blessing' from Tzeentch that was sort of like one of those really awful JoJo stands that just make your life suck or kill you.
>When was the last time they touched a table
That I can confirm? 2023. But I'm hopeful someone is still playing with them out there after I sold them to my LGS.
>What do you plan to do with them in the new year?
Miss them, mostly. But I'm hopeful that I can start hobbying again by the end of the year, in which case maybe I can kitbash up some successors.

very little
Leopoldheim is probably the largest amount, mainly that it's a penal colony in the southlands where prisoners are shipped to than basically given free rein in the colony , except for the port and fortress which are barred access to they export stuff like ores and lumber and get killed by weird monsters that live in the southland jungles
Svunum is a Knights of the Blazing Sun monastery that attacks the norscan on occasion, and they may be falling to Khorne, that's about it.

Dude Saxtonites don't give a shit about the films and will use any excuse to justify their retarded claims
>Uhhh we only see one Executor and it was clearly intended to be special to Vader and the EU made it so only a few other existed? Yeah but like... Han says in RotJ that there are other commander ships and he doesn't seem surprised by the Executor so CLEARLY this means the Executor is actually super fucking common and the rest is EU headcanon!
>The Home One is stated in various reference books to be a singular ship in the Rebel navy? But like we see other ships in the background that VAGUELY look like it so the Rebellion actually has hundreds of Home Ones and the books are just EU headcanon!
>The Death Star II is stated everywhere to be 200km long and it doesn't look big? Yeah but like... in this shot where we see the Endor moon in the background, if we do autistic pixel measurement it's way bigger and one of the ILM dudes said it was like 500x bigger than the first in an interview once! So CLEARLY the 200km stuff is EU headcanon!
Irony being most also hate the PT and love Disney. From what I've seen in Fractal's server all his Saxtonite pals eat up Disney+ trash like breakfast.
>>
>>97348311
Isn't the canon diameter of DS2 about 5 times that of DS1? It's a bit inconsistent since some sources state it's the same size as the original or twice as big, but IIRC the numbers that show up in most later sourcebooks have it be more than twice the diameter of the original.
>>
>>97348244
>At first blush it doesnt sound like a nonsensical claim?
From pretty much everything we see in SW media, not just the films themselves but also novels, games, etc., the ISD is consistently presented as a Very Big Ship. It's larger than anything the Rebellion had and while there are a handful of larger ships (the Executor most obviously, plus a few other super star destroyer designs that have shown up in comics or videogames), those are almost always fleet command ships (aka. the story's BBEG's personal ride that's narratively the final boss of the space battle) and you're almost never going to be seeing more than one at a time. So the idea that the ISD would be the equivalent of an escort ship just doesn't hold water.
You could make an argument for it being the equivalent of a cruiser (big but not the biggest capital ship, designed to project power and operate independently or with a small support squadron for long periods), with the Executor-class being the battleship, though it probably make more sense to treat the ISD as a battleship and the SSD as a bigger battleship. One is the Schanhorst and the other the Tirpitz, if you will.

I have a friend who gets very frustrated when playing any elven, or agility/passing team, because he tries to play them like a bashing team in blood bowl. No screening, he will move players right next to a bigger guy or ball carrier, etc. How do I break him out of this habit? He gets frustrated over it.

Also what would you pick for the underworld big guy? Rat ogre or troll? I vote for troll just to throw goblins at people.

The most recent box came with a campaign structure about exploring a necron tomb world, so I was thinking I'd take that and inject the same freeform lore writing that I used to help the campaign I played back just before KT18 released to make it feel more immersive. Any details beyond that are still undecided though, including who in my local community I can get on board with it, considering I'm in the process of painting the whole terrain set AND starting up two roleplaying campaigns at the moment.
>>
>>97348039
Ask him why he's basing so much, what does he hope to gain out of it? Show him what screening is and explain how limiting the punches he receives as a lighter armoured team to just the 1 blitz is vital to his teams' survival.

>How do you plan to run the enemy AI?
I’m going to devise a priority table like you said; if I’m going with the spyrer’s I’ll likely develop a unique table for each model, but for the palanites they’ll likely all share one. The tables will likely be something like
>roll d3
>3 = I’d play as if I was the NPC’s and make what I think is the best decision (so if I see a chance to grenade like 4 of my fighters I have to take it)
>1-2 = behaves according to a set priority tree that I then act on (making an objective “viable” by killing nearby enemies. If it doesn’t need to do that then it will interact with the objective. If it can’t do that then it will move to the objective safely; if it can’t do that then it will move to the objective in an unsafe way like running in the open or via parkour that isnt retardedly dangerous etc.)
>attacking will have its own priority tree too; if any time I’d attack I have to prioritise using the model’s most lethal option, so if a model has a power sword and can charge they’ll use it over their stub gun, if a model has good armour the ai will use whatever has the best ap etc.)
Figure adding that extra option for me to take charge will stop instances where I could cheese the NPC’s inadvertently by relying on them to fulfill certain behaviours. With the Spyrer’s I’d likely make it so stuff like the Orrus prefers getting into melee and acts a bit more brazen, whereas the Weld will likely prioritise shooting and staying a set distance from models when possible. If I go with palanites I’ll likely add behaviours like apprehending/capturing enemies and advancing with a teammate to their table over stuff like coup de grace’ing, going for outright kills and advancing blindly to an objective alone

what are some good moves to always keep in mind? I've just now learned that a3 and h3 are often good to block off knights
>>
>>97348512
Don't double fianchetto. Knights are good blockers of isolated pawns. Castle in the opposite direction for a more dynamic game. Keep bishops when the position is open, knights when it's closed. Chess is full of these type of principles. For single moves I guess they belong to opening theory rather than principles.

We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.

nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

After the lack of any sustained interest generated by Space Marine 2 (a game which apparently pulled 2 million players at launch), I'm not convinced that's true anymore. It was hit-or-miss between 2015-2020, but since around 2020 that atomising impact of the Internet on the media landscape has accelerated to such a degree that these responses just aren't sustained

Any good RPGs for doorkicking combat? Something kinda slick but hyper lethal, letting the PCs take down most mooks pretty quickly but always having the chance to lose it all with poor tactics. I've been running RED and it feels a bit pillow fisted but my group is afraid of RPGs from before the turn of the millennium

...And like that you've lost leverage as a customer. Congrats, dumbfuck, your short sighted greed means your expenses are up.

America is the only place I've spent time where tipping was a thing. It's also where I've received the worst service and had the least amount of options for handling disputes when I had an issue with a transaction.
Tipping doesn't give leverage to the consumer in any way I see. It only creates conflict between a company's employees and it's customers where it should be between the employees and the company.
The Waffle House you work at makes enough money to actually pay you a real wage but they would rather you be mad at the people you're serving shitty eggs and toast to rather than pressuring them into giving you a raise.

Not really surprising after telling everyone you don't tip.

"If I don't see it, it's not real."
Is this why your continent is circling the drain while mine toppled an entire nation in under 3 hours?

Delta Green jumps to mind.

Ugh I haven't been thrilled with what I've seen of delta green. But given that they've now got the license for my favorite fantasy series ever, I think I'm gonna have to learn it. You just reminded me.
