Yeah from what I hear paying users get the same, which is kind of funny to me
I don't use it for more than character reference for personal stuff so doesn't bother me but imagine paying to use it for business and it just plain not delivering

Grok's been giving me some pretty good results, at least. I can use the same general prompt format and get wildly different results with one or two word changes. I tried Gemini and it kept giving me essentially the same image over and over with very minute changes like weapons and armor.

The same 5 soldiers, same pose, same canyon, same camera angle, same style. Just different armor or weapons or grass patches or clouds.

Gemini's strength is in reference images, you can just find what you want on the net or god forbid try sketching it. In the pic above yours it drew me a pretty good impression of the Prague cop armor from DX:MD, but I kind of hated the rest of the result so I just cropped it to a portrait I could perhaps use sometime

It is the year 199X. Your friends have just sent you a text message to your Nokia 3210, saying they can't make tonight's D&D game.

Which of these games do you play, to single-playerly experience that classic 'dungeon crawler' feel?

We have all experienced the coming and going so GMs, Players and games; and then left holding the bag too start all over again at Square One.
If and when you have to start over from scratch how and where (online) would you start I'll look for groups and games?
There has been numerous reasons that would force someone to start all over again be it scheduling, life, work, people changing.

i like how people have interpreted this in different ways.

but i'd make it a black-and-white rule: no technology. or maybe, no technology for COMMUNICATION (print out character sheets, sure).

one of those axioms like "don't eat any foods your grandparents couldn't have". it's folksy but if you omit keyboards and screens, there goes /tg/, Reddit, Discord, Roll20 (and the rest).

you may even have to play games with your friends that you already know. (or the ones you'll make, moving to a new area.)
>>
>>97349305
I started from scratch after a nearly 20 years hiatus.
I searched online for clubs and groups in my area. Found some kind of TTRPG meetup in the next town. Showed up. Everyone was at least 10 years younger than me, and everyone was only playing DnD. Found out that a local LGS was organising TTRPG nights. Signed up as a GM, and offered something that wasn't shitty DnD. Found some players - some were better than others. With a returning player who had the same interest as me, we founded an TTRPG club and rented a clubroom. Later, through sessions at our club room and at the local LGS, we found more members, and now we're running sessions regularly.
My observation is that the whole local scene is extremely woke (small university town in Europe) - I constantly have to watch what I'm saying. Also, I need to include discussions about "veils and lines" and "safety tools" before sessions, otherwise some players start complaining online. There are also certain 1990s games, I can't play anymore because the woke players would get a fucking meltdown, or I would have to tone them down to a point I'd get bored. Another annoying thing is that players now are quite demanding. Before, players were happy you were running something. Nowadays, they come with bullshit demands (session zero, safety tools, finding dates 3 months in advance...), but show few discipline themselves (they'll ditch the session because they forgot about aunt Martha's birthday, or because they felt they needed to be alone, and if you complain you're marked as toxic). But, I must also say that "modern" players who are interested, tend to be more implicated than before. Their roleplay is better, they want to learn the system and the background story of the setting.
Those are my observation, based on a relatively small sample.
>>
>>97349325
>>Check your local library or college for TTRPG clubs
other anon here; did that, have now about two groups of teenager players; bad thing was for few years I were forever MG (still on plus managed to test near everyone RPG system I owned), but now they grew and are trying to GM on their own; major plus is I had willing players for historical and other wargames like DBA and Battletech

I've always considered hags and goblins related somehow. Warty green skin, hooked nose, lives in the forest.

You know how hags always want people's children? They never really mention what happens to those..
>>
>>97353498
For me, they're far too different. Hags are monstrous women that do black magic and eat children. Goblins are sneaky, selfish, horrible fae-types that like causing mischief, that take children to turn them into goblins. Which would then mean the two are at odds in that regard.

Only stupid Redditfags do this because they hate the idea of a setting where science couldnt potentially explain everything. They make it this way to make things "realistic" despite the fact the actual science element is fantasy tier. Sound retarded? Thats because it is.
>>
>>97353888

Nothing wrong with it. If anything, in reality, magic would be indistinguishable from science. Isaac Newton, the father of modern science, was an avid occultist and alchemist.

>>
>>97353888
In most magic systems used in games magic is indistinguishable from technology. In OPs example nanomachine tech that produces standard "magical" effects is for all effects and purposes magic with a chrome coat of paint. It's just an aesthetic thing.

I ran this, they're big fans of loading the party up with NPCs. I recommend having the NPCs come and go instead. They have a literal god following them around usually but I had her kind of fuck off 90% of the time and come and check in on them sometimes from out of the blue.

I'm not sure it's worse or better in 2024. 2024 is a short rest healing in a box plus a healing buff for spell based healers. 2014 is just a once per rest heal that provides no passive benefits.
Multiple characters might want 2024 healer. 2014 healer was only takeable by maybe a Thief.

Anyone willing to look at a homebrew that I'm worried is busted for me? It's intended to be steeped in flavor, rather than abject efficacy. I must also confess that writing something dark, without coming off as an edgy tryhard donut steele retard is very difficult. Also, there is admittedly a massive amount of narrative context that's missing here; trust that it's relevant. The Mastery is a completely intentional choice and I am fully aware of its potential implications. And no, it does NOT require attunement. That hyper-flexibility is a large degree of the power budget of its status as a legendary item.
>>
>>97344587
Why does necessity have to get in the way of coziness?

Take Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the stakes are high and your mission is dire (you gotta collect 3 macguffin drops every year to power the macguffin crystal that keeps your village safe from the poisonous Plot Air, failure means your entire village gets wiped off the map) but the moment to moment story is still a comfy adventure of discovery, road trips, new experiences, and the importance of memories.

Coziness comes from tone and themes, not a lack of stakes or peril.

>Why should I homebrew?
/tg/ products are fairly unique in that it's actually pretty simple to make them these days, with a plethora of products to assist in making and playtesting your game. Making your own games helps understand why games are made the way they are, as well as being fun to do.

>What you should post
Ideas for games, games you're currently making, updates to your own games in broad strokes, and any homebrewing for existing products that don't get much attention. Discussion about the above is welcome. Post good, be good, and look over others products, they care if someone looks more than anything.

trying to think of how to best call this 6th stat

I thought to make it Intuition, but I hate how similar the word itself looks to Intellect. What would be a good word here?

It needs to be something related to empathy and intuition, understating people, getting intuitive reads of places and situations. It's gonna be the primary casting stat for healers

Here are my rules

1. FTL travel is only possible with a real sentient person controlling the ship. Don't try brain in a jar, it backfires.

2. FTL communication inside of a solar system is possible, but only through some fairly expensive infrastructure.

3. The vast, vast majority of information is carried by courier ships who must make the FTL travel by themselves.

4. There is instant FTL galaxy-wide communications available, but only the big giant ancient asshole alien empire knows how to do it, and only those people extremely, extremely high up get to use it. This typically takes the form of pre-recorded video messages. A live holo-link with a member of the Imperial Court means someone on the other side of the call really fucked up. Humans (aka players) have access to this tech, but can only send very simple text messages, like telegrams, can be vulnerable to distortion, it's not reliable.

I like the feeling of Traveller "Age of Sail" communication, but I also want to leave myself open to other stuff.

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

>I do not have and coming out in support of "criticism" that involves throwing a functional and important rule system into the dumpster; they can fuck off and you can fuck off with them.

I my experience Invention is the least used Tech ability. Field Expertise is by far the most useful and Upgrade/Fabricate are more situational, but still get alot of use because of how strong they are early game. I don't think players really want to go through the "GM may I" process described in core, so don't want to commit Tech levels to the specialty.

I think a "fix" to this issue is just to streamline things and grant the Tech all it's specialties each level instead of forcing you to pick two.
