It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind. These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles. But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status. There is no shortage of men in peril.Neither in classic nor in modern art.
>>97329624I mean that's just false. The men who draw things like OP are drawing a power fantasy in which being super-male means you "deserve" attractive women. Your version of the power fantasy plays out in romance novels--not Frazetta's art.
>>97348809Do you think intention equals result? lol
>>97348863No. I think you're trying to spin a personal interpretation into a universal truth. Those two things are not equal.
>>97348809>being super-male means you "deserve" attractive womenSuper-males know that nobody, including them, deserve anything. It's not a POWER fantasy if it involves gibs.

Previous thread: >>97215703GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.
>Step away from GURPS and GURPS-related stuff for around a full year due to burnout, IRL engagements, etc.>Get the itch, start flipping through the books and doing some GURPS theorycrafting again>Swing by the general to see how things have developed>HTMLfaggot is *still* arguing that PDFs are the devil, and any complaints about the fugly and unreadable layout is moot because 'muh infinitely customizable CSS', Good to see some things do not change.

It's really quite impressive how much nothing you've accomplished by changing the font size.>sane defaultA sane default would be building the content in LaTeX, to leverage its ability to take your content and drop it directly into a pre-prepared document formatting template with minimal work. There is a reason scientific journals use it to concatenate papers from multiple different authors.
>>97342362>I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes the system. Why is that?
>>97347993Despite my many efforts to explain and streamline things, they still think everything is way too complicated. They think there are too many skills, and that default penalties are too harsh. So I've introduced wildcard skills and taught them to use rules like Time Spent to offset default penalties. But they still don't like it.They think hit locations are too hard to hit, range penalties are too harsh, and that too many actions take too long in combat. I try to explain how you can offset penalties or do things faster by using combat options like Aim, Evaluate, All-Out Attack, Telegraphic Attack, and Extra Effort, or bump up skill or buy special advantages or techniques to make things easier. Their enemies are also subject to all the same rules, so knowing how to use these options should give them a huge leg up over their foes. But they think all these rules are unnecessary. "I've shot a gun before, [GM]. Anyone should be able to quick-draw a pistol and make a snap shot at a target's neck at 10 meters with 95% accuracy. These rules are stupid." I'm a noguns, so they don't take me seriously when I cite real-life firearm statistics.Generally, they think too many things give penalties, and don't like adding up penalties. I try to explain that these things which give penalties would just simply be impossible in other systems, and by leveraging modifiers they can make the impossible possible. They say "That's fine. Just don't let me do them then." Which baffles me, because when I was running D&D way back in the day, they were always complaining how they couldn't do anything. One player also dropped out of the game early while complaining that there was "too much combat." But he said he's also going to be joining my other player's DH2E/Sector-X game even though that game is going to have even more combat. So that also befuddled me. Although, it could've just been scheduling issues that he had to drop out, and the comment was incidental. He didn't say.
As a thought experiment, how would I write up an ability that lets me send my mind back in time? Like reloading a "save point" in video games, but it can go to any point in the past since the time you first acquired the ability. I'm thinking it would probably involve Jumper (Time) with Accessibility or some other limitations. It should be possible to use with conscious effort, but also trigger automatically on death, so Reflexive should also be there.

what are some good moves to always keep in mind? I've just now learned that a3 and h3 are often good to block off knights
>>97348512Don't double fianchetto. Knights are good blockers of isolated pawns. Castle in the opposite direction for a more dynamic game. A halo of flies orbited her skull, like a constant droning crown. She raised one swollen hand and beckoned you forward.Your stomach lurched. The air was thick with it; the vast, massive sweet-rank altars of rot looming behind her, cathedrals of corruption that pressed into the lungs and clawed at the eyes. Your nose burned, then ran freely, tears following in helpless sympathy. From her own nostrils, viscous strands of snot slid downward. They did not splatter. They did not smear. Instead, they fell with deliberate grace, congealing upon her breast into three perfect rings, interlocked and whole. She writhed in rapt, fetid ecstasy, and she smiled at you, slow and knowing. She could see the response she had drawn from you by glancing at the tinting of your pants. She leaned closer, breath hot and sour, and pressed her blackened tongue to your lips. You did not pull away. You took it into your mouth and tasted her. Pain flared at once; her saliva burned, raising blisters along the soft skin inside your cheeks, but you swallowed the sensation down, welcomed it, let it mark you.

We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

What is the counterculture of 2020s, that could be used as the basis for a contemporary countercultural tabletop game?Take the World of Darkness for example, which was so grounded in the the counterculture of the 90s that it comes across as dated and strange today.
