Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

Expanding on this, this would really support the whole "young solars drop into the world as the scrappy underdogs who can change things.". Like, obviously this is just a spitball number and there are a bunch of other effects to really consider, but I think doing things like this would better illustrate power level differences in an immediate way and tell players that they can do things right now.
>>
>>97227390
I'm not even sure what exactly you're arguing desu. I've been trying to get an in game explanation of when you wouldn't allow someone to roll in 3e when they'd be allowed to roll in 2e but you won't really help me there. Here's more of what the book says though.

>characters with inaccurate knowledge or different backgrounds experience much greater difficulties, if they are allowed to roll at all.

Along with this bit.

>You don’t have to treat the setting like a piñata, and Lore like a bat that will split its colorful shell and spill all the delicious secrets within, but you should always treat a character’s Lore rating as a chance to make the character look good, and as a chance to make the player feel good.

If you flat out couldn't roll lore without a background or specialty then I don't think these lines would be here. They seem extremely clear desu. I'm sure there is more suggesting that yes, you can use your lore rating for lore rolls. Although at this point I don't think you'll accept anything other then what the devs have to say on the subject.
>>
+>>97227707
>I'm not even sure what exactly you're arguing desu.
I said it in my second post to you anon when it was apparent I wasn't clear, >>97226525, and I've said it a few other times. You keep bringing in other things like charms that don't really even touch on what I said
That's it, that's the entirety of my point, "Lore in 3e requires you to focus on a subject the Lore is in, and allows or forbids rolls based on that, 1e and 2e just had Lore be Lore, and it applied regardless of subject" that's it, that's the whole thing I've been repeating this whole time anon

Page 238
>In most cases, if the character is challenging a difficulty that falls under her expertise, it is her expertise that makes the roll possible in the first place
Emphasis on the last bit of it
Speaking of quotes from the book, you left out the first half of the first bit you quoted
>Note again that it is the character’s Lore background and specialty that makes such rolls possible; characters with inaccurate knowledge or different backgrounds experience much greater difficulties, if they are allowed to roll at all.
It flat out states the background and specialties are what allows the rolls anon
I'm about to go to sleep, and I'd tell you to maybe make sure not to quote a line that outright contradicts your point in the same sentence next time, but given you intentionally left out the first half, I'm pretty sure you were just hoping I wouldn't check or something

It’s by design. They never could have made ATLA today. Too many diversity quotas, forced feminisit shit, and it would have been called RACIST and CULTURAL APPROPRIATION! The biggest issue is staff have to be diversity hires too. AoS also has significantly smaller armies. On average your chaff unit is 100pts - maybe a bit below that if you play Cities of Sigmar.

Heroes in AoS are what tanks cost in 40k.

A fun fact is every 40k Battleforce this year was under 1k - some by 500 or more. Every AoS box was at least 900-1100pts
>>
>>97227421
it's funny because i'm pretty sure it was only like 25 bucks at launch, gw has raised prices pretty fast in 2 years after seeing the 'opportunity'.
>>
>>97221959
Given most of GW's actually decent games are skirmish ones, yes obviously they are cheaper. You're looking at 1-2 boxes of minis for a complete force, so around $60 on the low end to about $150 at most.
>>
Its not just the prices, its the points values.
Go and compare a 2k army from 15 years ago to one now. You need way more minis.

Its why I always advocate for games with smaller point values. Playing 1500 or even 1250 means far less money spent. Or hell, go play a skirmish game. That way you only need like 10 models. You'll probably have more fun because 10th ed is fucking dogshit for fags.
>>
>>97225367
I think >>97225296 is right though, when they were in blister packs they were a little more but it skyrocketed when they switched to individual boxes for some reason.

Annoyingly I do know a bunch of tourney-wannabe types who do still shovel money to GW. Grey tide on L-shaped ruins and all, totally put me off.

Men who make/roleplay female characters, why do you?
Why do you think it bothers /tg/ so much?

stereotypically, men think in objects while women think in relations. Men think about how to solve a problem, women think about how to feel about a problem. It's why men tells stories directly while women meander. It also relates to communication, where men want to talk solutions or not talk at all, and women want to share feelings about the situation. Men want to know why the car is making that sound, women want to share feelings about the broken car.
Ideally, though, you've gotta remember that women are as varied as men are. The women in my family are relatively masculine in that they're driven, headstrong, and they love sports.

No. Are you going to pretend you don't mean anything more significant than the vacuous "everything someone creates comes from their own mind" when the original claim was that all characters were necessarily self-inserts?

Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

Thank you, once more, for maintaining this communication line, Net0. I do hope your expedition proved fruitful.
I have been cleaning up the cabin after dealing with my beast, and the locked room that confounded me has been breached revealing a corpse in a script circle. The corpse is exhibiting signs of early decay but the script is proving to be a most interesting puzzle. I believe it might be an older form of cyrillic.
[spoilers]Thanks again and I'll do my best to remember near the end.[/spoiler]

>>
>>97227153
>>97226645
Yeah, the last few days have been quite something. I've been fighting an infection I got on the last hunt.

So we find this ship crewless, floating. Cyrillic name, oбильный, apparently it translates to "bountiful". Normal russian fishing boat, not out of the ordinary in these waters. I strap on the go pro and get my gun, we split into three teams. One goes below, one stays on the deck of the fishing boat, and one stays on our deck so nobody can sabotage or take it. The place looked bad, some blood stains on the deck, signs of a struggle. Down below was cleaner, but still real eerie. Everyone's gone, and whatever did it was smart enough to turn off their transponder, demolish the radio, and turn out the lights. I'm recording everything I can and trying to determine if the ship itself was a front, pretty sure it wasn't, when we hear a gunshot from up on the deck. Below team rushes up to see a half-dozen humanoids, dripping wet, straight out of the freezing Bering Sea rushing our boys. Good news is, bullets seem to work just fine on them. I nail one in the chest and it goes overboard, doesn't come back up. Then another hunter, guy I didn't know very well screams like hell. There's a squid wrapped around his neck biting deep with its beak. Someone rips it off and it starts running on its tentacles across the deck. I shoot it and it explodes, then one of the humanoids bowls into me. I got a good look at it. He used to be human, but his face is all fucked up. Webbed fingers too, and a weird scaley rash. Reviewing the gopro footage, he had a cyrillic tattoo, probably one of the fishermen. One of my cellmates takes a boathook to its eye and drags it off of me. The survivors all bail but the guy who got bit in the neck bleeds out, we couldn't stop the flow that thing chewed straight through his carotid.
>>
>>97227453
Then the boat rocks. We're all retreating back to our boat to bid a retreat and I shit you not I have footage of a massive tentacle arising out of the sea. I'm talking kraken size. We get the hell out of there, shooting the tentacles as we start speeding back towards land. During the escape I slipped and cut my hand like a motherfucker on something metal, real embarrassing way to take a hunting injury. Infection has me holed up, but I should be fine long term, and we want to keep our heads down after that anyway. Still, can't sleep well. Trying to figure out how to kill the kraken and its pelagic zombie servants. My cred in Net0 is going to shoot up from all this good footage but I feel pretty hollow about that. Getting the information out there is important, but I'm concerned more with the practical threat this thing poses.

That's what's been up with good ol' GNP. hope you all are having a better time of it out there.

honestly I find TQs a little immersion undermining for an RP thread like this.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

If you want to reduce the number of shuffles you make each turn and go into your deck a lot, ask the opp if they're ok with you doing a single shuffle and cut at the end of your turn (and before you draw a card if applicable).
Other post outlines a usual simple method. I can maybe aid in it by drawing a simple diagram. I combined written steps 1 and 2 into drawn step 1. The idea is that you're shoving the corners of your left hand pile in between the side edges of your right hand pile and then straightening the halves once they have about 1cm of overlap.
>>
>>97226727
I'd like to see them retrain all the handtraps with the charmy text. The biggest problem with them has always been the going 1st player using them on the 2nd player's turn. How often have you managed to break their board and then your last card gets ash'd and you're just fucked?

With >>97225249 being a prime example, and not just about MtG but about life in general, younger folks usually have more of a tendency to project some idealized image of the past into their brain and be very vehement about it. The people who were actually there know better usually.

Now don't get me wrong, older folks have a different but somewhat similar bias as well, idealizing their own teen years. So the important part is to see which overlaps are where on a timeline, because these are two kind of biases that are very strong in people. One is about the perfect outside (ideal past), other about the perfect inside (ideal me).

Point is, if you identify any of these posters, don't argue with them, it's pointless. They have beliefs, not opinions.

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different.

I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times.

Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.

I've learned not to lock main plotline progression behind puzzles; like a door or something.
But "best possible ending" will be, as well as all the best loot.
Competent evil wizards don't just leave their best shit lying around in storage cupboards with nothing but a deadbolt and a green slime to protect it.
Best thing is to give your players inscrutable hints; a map with a cypher, a key to an unknown lock, or rumours of a treasure in a jungle ziggurat.

Take a few of these elements and blend them together.
With skill, you can make your players "feel" like they solved a puzzle even when they didn't, just by giving them the components piecemeal; real puzzles should be presented alongside physical props; something tactile like a printout or a real sliding puzzle box.

That's scratching some old memories. Isn't that the Paladin that some fag in 2009 or something posted with a big sob story about how it belonged to his dad that recently passed away, and then a bunch of anons in the thread figured out that the story was bullshit cause the character sheet didn't make a lick of sense with AD&D rules?
>>
>>97218290
Almost all the problems I see people have with RPGs are communication problems. Talk with your fucking players. Note that that means listening as well. Be clear what you expect from them, what you want the focus of the game to be, what sort of tone you want, and so on. Don't expect them to read your mind.

The kobold guides and the lazy dungeon master guides are pretty bad in my opinion. The lazy dungeon master stuff started ok if a little basic, but then went into shit not even about the games.

With the blessing of Shibobah'dad'ilith I conquer the kingdom and get revenge on the nobles fattened by the lifeblood of my family. My father lacked the courage to go through with it, but where he failed, I will succeed. Using my dark magic I'll conquer the kingdom one step at a time and raise an alter to the mighty Tri-Horned Goat. The blood of kings shall flow and only then shall my wrath be abated.

Some calculations because I got curious.

Voyager 1 took 35 years to cross the heliopause, which is ~0.0019 light-years from the sun. An archmage that can skip space should be faster than that—let's say 10 times, so 0.35 years. The nearest star to the sun is Proxima Centauri, ~4.25 light-years away. 4.25 / 0.0019 x 0.35 = ~781 years. Exploring the nearest solar systems is unrealistic at that speed.

However, what if the archmage has connections with a higher entity or some such? If we suppose that the entity is 100 times faster than them, it can travel to Proxima Centauri in 7.81 years. Add some permanent portals and exploring the nearby solar systems seems plausible. Then, add a few million years of age behind the entity and many other similar entities and exploring the Milky Way seems plausible.

The /btg/ is dead! Long live the /btg/!

Can't show POV of being taken bondsman by a Clan Jade Falcon Aerospace Phenotype on this board.

Why did 5.5e drop the ball so hard? Everyone I know who likes 5e is staying with 5.0e. And more than a few of them have moved to 3.5, OSR, or other games entirely.
Is WOTC just stupid?

Embarrassing samefag loses argument AND forgets to make a second reply.

>Your struggles to distinguish posters with extremely different styles
Every samefag says this excuse lol.

>No, it's because the amount of play that is feasible for me is far below any standards of representative sample sizes.
It's also far below the sample size of 1 game.

>By your own logic, WotC would not awkwardly weasel around a line refresh like 5.5
My logic holds then because they don't, 5.5e isn't, as we've already established, actually considered 5.5e by them, and only gameless 3aboos think it's an apt comparison to 3.5e.
In your specific case, it also makes you really fucking mad that 5e won't die and contradict yourself trying to explain how a few rule changes are the worst thing since hitler.

>Not on the level of the product placement being significant media phenomena in themselves
Yeah? Prove it, you have 5 minutes.

This "I win" faggot has been plaguing /tg/ for a while, but I've never seen him try so hard to appear smart and informed about shit he's clearly just desperately googling for material. I almost hope this is just an extremely drawn out attempt to bait for replies to get some activity on this board to make the whole site look less dead, because I'd hate to believe there was actually a faggot this pathetic alive on this gay Earth.
