Not at my table. I don't permit a-la-carte character generation (i either give you some ready to go templates with, system agnostic explained, options or i straight ask if you want something particular and build that in your stead) and i run simulationist games or under a simulationist lens, which means i ask you what your character wants to accomplish and then tell you what to roll. Simple and straightforward.
>inb4 that's a slog!
Only if you run esclusion based gamist shit systems like d&d from 3e onwards. Just don't.

100% of the people I've come across who've played AT all agree it's the best GW ruleset and feel they've ever put out. Thankfully Geedubs themselves don't know how good it is, so they don't ruin it with 3 year cycles and bi-monthly stat changes. It's the best kept secret.

More map campaign system thoughts: I might ditch the entire thing of controlling hexes with nothing in them to gain territory and money. It adds a lot of bookkeeping for relatively little value, and doesn't make all that much sense. Better to just track the ownership of territories that actually grant bonuses.

>but import fees are due with every parcel service (obviously)
And yet for every other crowdfunder Ive experienced, the use of a distribution company avoids these last minute/surplus charges.
I pay the up front shipping fee, and thats that. Received things from Europe, states, straight from Asia, and never paid import charges as its already been handled company side. While this was an expensive order, having gone all in on Flick Fleet deluxe, shipping from Britsin, and not paid a dime above the initial shipping charged, it makes me nettled. Of course, that was literally two dudes in their garage that avoided large parcel carrier services in fulfillment, but any time you opt for Fedex/UPS/ DHL, it feels like a big fuck you to the buyer.

Anyway as >>97235046 pointed out, this is all self inflicted. And I am not dealing with incompetence leading to surprise VAT shit as thats not a thing here.
You win some you lose some, and lesson learned not to back anything by these guys again.
>>

It's an important life lesson you probably should learn sooner or later than transporting goods across international borders isn't simple and that the default is that it will cost you. Better to learn it buying a boardgame vs importing something that's 5 grand from a nontrade partner and seeing what happens to you
Crowdfunding is not your friend, and you live in bongland, were you not paying attention to what your government did with brexit? Be fortunate you're not out a whole lot of money

>>97235091
flip7 is in a weird spot for me. It is almost too complex to teach to where if I can teach it to someone i could probably get them to figure out something much better. It doesn't really fill the need for games I can play with adults who read and function at 6 year old level very well

If the value-added tax is paid during shipping >>97235001 the cost of shipping is included when calculating the tax but if the tax had been prepaid it wouldn't have been. So the publisher's sleight of hand to make you think the game was cheaper than it actually was has actually raised the cost.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

>No, Shadowrun is the one game it doesn't really work for
Nonsense. Substantiate your claim.
gurps magic as powers or RPM or hell even basic magic > shadowrun magic
gurps cybernetics as powers > shadowrun cybernetics, with the only caveat is that you don't have a good guideline for converting point cost to cash prices, but you can infer a good guideline from metatech.
gurps combat >>>>>>>>>>>> shadowrun combat
gurps gear and wealth system > shadowrun gear and wealth system

>>97232847
>can run this in gurps better than an existing system
The answer to this is almost always yes, however. The rest of your post is just saying that it takes more work for the GM, not that the system is better.

>Nonsense. Substantiate your claim.
NTA but I've always felt the same. Most of the time when people talk about specific systems having "flavor" they're full of shit, but in the case of Shadowrun I just can't divorce the setting from the system like that. Something about it fits it's use case in a way GURPS, or anything else, does not.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,

>why bother with 1000 cannons if you can just field 1000 wizards?
If the logistics happened in a vacuum this would be a functional question but we don't really have that at the same time as not having an actual setting, its just everyone's likely different ideas about how common wizards are.
Yes, in a perfect world the army I like would have all the things I want when I want them. Doesn't seem like an interesting game though.
I've considered trying to take the perry brother's napoleonic battle in a box and add a few fantastical elements, I think more towards the idea of magic as subterfuge and support oriented warfare. Keeps it involved but mangeable and from being overwhelming or turning into herohammer except everyone has tall hats.
A system of cards with battlefield altering abilities that are interesting but don't make things too swingy or radically undermine the interesting aspects of early manoeuvre warffare.

This has always been the intended way to enjoy magic
However game already (sort of) pairs stronger meta decks against each other and stupid jank against other stupid jank, you can just mess around in brawl and other unranked constructed formats
>>
>>97233429
yes, aggro decks have to play 1drops and 2drops. that's how MTG works. you cannot play aggro decks and just pass early turns because your opponent might have a 3 mana wrath. i have no idea why you're implying this would be the case (other than the presumption that you are a stone retard)
game is designed to make board based decks flood the board and then reward brainlet control players with automatic wins to make them feel like they're "punishing an overextension", a camp you clearly fall into. go queue up with your faggot jace avatar and your "the brilliant" title, so smart because you figured out that removing creatures from the board is what you're supposed to do when you load your deck up with removal spells

I did a christmas Jawa one shot for my star wars campaign once. They had to sneak into Mos Eisley and steal a bunch of stuff for Jawa Life Day. Ended up getting caught and had to kill a couple New Republic troopers to get out of there
>>
Last year the players had a great time at the Whomstville Christmas Festival meeting a cast lf kooky characters and stopping the Binch from sabotaging all the eventa like sled races, figure skating, and cookie decorating. It ended with the party ambushing The Binch as he tried to blight the big christmas tree in front of everyone in Whomstville only to realize that his mischevious scheme was actually the equivalent of a magival nuke and accidentally killed everyone in Whomstville.

This year the party had to go back to the Whomstville Memorial Site after reports that the Binch was seen cavorting with some unknown figures during his house arrest. The Binch explained it was his bitch of an ex-wife Gryla and their thirteen ugly fucked up kids called the Yule Lads ttying to ruin Christmas and made it very clear he wasn't involved because he was on parole.

The party went down the back of The Binch's mountain where they had to fight the 13 Yule Lads, each equipped with one very unique power(Stekkjastaur made you want to fuck animals, Spoon-Licker would summon dancing spoons to fuck you up, door-sniffer would stab you with his proboscis nose if you didn't spend your move action giving him bread, ect) and Jolakastur, the giant Yule Cat that fucks you up if you dont have new clothes on christmas. The battle devolved into a mad panic to get across the map giving eachother gifts to keep Jola off of them while slowly whittling through the Yule Lads. It was a ton of fun.

How do we fix Steampunk?

>>97198341
You know what, I don't how steampunk fashion/subculture started either. It seems to me it must have started in the US but that's as far as I can go; there must be a reason beyond some music bands adopting the steam era adventurer aesthetics back in the 2000s, but I just don't know what it was
>>97230255
In Dragonmech it all boils down into "steam powered shit was invented by dwarves and they're so good at it everything just works out", the book just tells you not to overthink it and just enjoy the ride
it also implies that the same dwarves that invented steam powered mechs also know about electricity generation and nuclear powered engines, but won't tell anybody about it because it's just too dangerous to let people like humans or goblins get their hands on that kind of knowledge it's also implied that there was an ancient dwarven empire that nuked themselves into the stone age and that's the main reason they keep that kind of tech under wraps
i'm personally fine with that; i just want to run a high fantasy adventure with mechs and sheit

>>97230511
Punk is and has always been corporate-sponsored "safe" rebellion to keep the youth sedated and buying your products, idiot.

Cyberpunk is the only one to get it right by making the punks PART of the system. They think they're rebellious and living free, but they're just useful pawns to the corps. Deniable assets, free agents, and some of the biggest spenders (and testers) of a whole host of weapons, software, and cyberware. Why pay for some test subject to use your sweet new cyberspine in a controlled (and thus unrealistic) environment when you can just "accidentally" leak it to some cyberpunk who will put it through its paces for you?
>>97234620
Based useful idiot, I bet you think the big corps on your allies when they slap a rainbow on their profile pic once a year (but not in the middle east, of course)
>>
>>97235561
The idiot here is you. If you used your brain (if you have one) you would see that going durr durr corporate-sponsored "safe" rebellion derp does not change that making it into /pol/ retardation is missing the point of punk. In Cyberpunk the corps are bad guys who are doing shady shit. To play punk straight you need to understand the idea of behind punk

Why does lichdom exist when you can just clone yourself in 5e?

Partially true: people may know about undeads in general conflating one type with another and wouldn't know about clones and just assume that the wizard is immortal because, well, magic. An Adept of the arts would know about liches and clones in general terms but wouldn't necessarily know everything about their nature until delving into research, during the course of which may find incongruent results or even falsehoods and dead ends.

>and isn't stuck in a gross corpse body,

It is heavily implied that Liches having "gross corpse bodies" is mostly due to laziness. A "corpse lich" is the equivalent of a nerd scientist who is so focused on their research that they stop eating, drinking and sleeping. Liches that make certain to maintain their physical bodies in good condition(or just jump to new living bodies on the regular like Cagliostro) can easily pass as the living. So Cagliostro is actually a lich, but one that puts in the work to stay presentable rather than decaying into a skeleton.

>So Cagliostro is actually a lich

He doesn't practice necromancy, his body is artificial but biologically alive and he has never inhabited a corpse, and he has no phylactery. In what respect is he a lich?
