Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?Pic related: WFRP author James Wallis's response to a letter criticizing how railroaded The Enemy Within campaign was.
>>97264712You had a con game where the GM did and said nothing for an hour? What's the point of lying?
>>97264720Not that specific one but shit that was just as retarded
>>97264725Nope.
>>97264725So what? It doesn't matter if you've personally had bad games. That isn't evidence for or against Wick being full of shit, which he is.
>>97264739When it comes to John Wick, I assume that he's not intentionally lying about the contents of his games, just about how much his players enjoyed his chicanery. And I'm basing this primarily on the fact that the Scorpion Clan in L5R, aka the backstabbing bag of dicks clan, were his favorite and supposedly at least one named one was his personal player character. That and most of his tall tales are of him using railroading and rule abuse to fuck over PCs, which is generally on par with most narcissistic or power-abusive GMs in general. He's not unique in that regard.

Im out of my depth hereTL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence. -I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era. Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them. I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body. -So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97260477>Looking for setting influence.Nausicaa Valley of The Wind, specifically the Manga. And for several good reasons:-One is that they actually had several apocalypses because the first one didn't stick. The first "day of fire" wasn't enough for society to completely collapse, so they ended up having 2 more to really cement it in. -The "hand-me-down" junk yard world has created a believable situation where mixed unit armies of traditional warriors, riflemen, cavalry, and modern artillery and firearms, is a practical response to conditions. High quality ceramics are basically indestructible, but they can't be fabricated, only harvested and recycled, so they make them into high-status armors and weapons. Literally every plane that gets blown up is a permanent loss for a country and a lot of what regular people have to depend upon is based off of low-tech organic resources and cottage companies. -There is magic, technically, in the form of psionics. The series never goes into length about how it works, but it seems to be based off of pro-longed exposure: you hang out with someone who has it, you get attacked, you mutate, etc. It feels more like a muscle or a sense people don't know they have because using it is so uncomfortable. -The only "old high end technology" that's still replicable is the bio-tech stuff (which is a little true to life. Biotech is extremely cheap once standardized). Either because they've become naturalized, or alchemists & chemists of the time earnestly just know how to cultivate those components. There's a Homunculi-type warrior called a Heedra and they literally just grow them from clippings, feed them slop, and control them with a special dog whistle. The Dorok Imperial Family tree is more like a corn stalk: the father made several clones, transplanted his brain in several over 120 years, and raised the extras as sons.
>>97260477>are there any pre existing settings ?Afterglow which is a polish tactics game that had a failed kikestarter campaign for a tabletop adaptation.
>>97260477Palladium's Rifts setting is pretty interesting. Basically humanity entered a technology golden age via a scientific arms race, then a minor nuclear exchange caused magic to re-enter the world along with atlantis which was hogging it all. The sudden magical surge caused portals to open at ley line nexus points that let all sorts of aliens, mystical creatures, and alternate universe humans pour into our world.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.
Despite being kind of a shitpost with the rape stuff, Three Worlds Collide has a pretty interesting take where the physical attributes are alien, but the mentalities are sort of an uncanny valley in-between human and alien. The Babyeaters are giant insect-like crystals. They're slightly less advanced than humanity, but they're capable of space travel and literature. They're highly intelligent, have an honor-based culture, and have achieved world peace. They also eat their own children, as the name suggests. The Babyeaters give birth to extremely large litters, so they let only the strongest survive while eating the rest to conserve resources. As they became more intelligent, instinct transformed into culture - eating your own children became a moral duty and the greatest thing you could possibly do. The children are fully conscious and very much don't want to be eaten - in fact, they're digested alive for about a month until they finally die. And the Babyeaters do love their children, it's just that it's not as important as their duty to society. They also have an interesting concept of forgiveness, based on the scientific method - a mistake based on insufficient data can be forgiven, but a deliberately different interpretation of the same data absolutely can't.On the other end of the spectrum is the Superhappies, an extremely advanced race of highly luminescent blobs. If the Babyeaters are the chimps of the universe, the Superhappies are the bonobos - they're obsessed with pleasure, to the point where they literally communicate with sex. They also exchange emotions and memories doing this, creating a pseudo-hivemind, and are horrified when they learn that humans don't. They also don't have a concept of deception. When they learn about the Babyeaters, they're so traumatized that a specialist group of Superhappies that lack emotions, the Kiritsugus (yes, like the Fate character - I told you it was a shitpost), have to take over for a while.
>>97240164for me, it's space babes.
>>97240164Im kind of okay with whatever, but i actually prefer human only settings. If there must be "aliens" of some sort, my preference is that everyone actually has one progenitor race & we all evolved separate from there

Hell, the rapid expansion of their species is predicated on coexistence with humans. Legitimately the only point of real racial conflict is the human sacrifice, which is unexplained in both need and nature.>it like to co-exist with vampires in some honest wayPlenty of settings have humans coexist with vampires and the ones that don't generally rely on contrivances like vampires being inherently stupid, evil, and/or impulsive and bizarrely anti-social even among each other if other vampires even exist on a level where their continued survival in the first place makes no sense.

>>97264000 The raft serves to expand the footprint that anchors the model. It helps to resist the separation forces and prevent the model from detaching from the build plate. You want to hollow the model not only to save resin, but so that there's less surface sticking to the FEP, making it easier to separate. You'll want a hole on the near side of the build plate so the hollowed area can breath. It's to prevent the suction cup effect.

Something about classical era monsters makes them my favorite.
Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?
>>97258391Orks are fine and have so many plastic kits. Bring back looted tanks and then even more options.
>>97260466That's what you get with DEI and commies working for GW
>>97264090Yeah, but we were talking about scale-creep. My point is that the reason Ork's don't get scale creep, even though they literally have an inbuilt lore excuse for doing so is because GW barely thinks about Orks at all. Unlike space marines that get new ranges and kits three times a year and has done since 1995.Which was thirty years ago.
>>97258391I don't think there's very much truth to this. From GW's perspective, it's a great thing if you kitbash vehicles, because then they can sell you two kits instead of one and then even better you'll buy kits that aren't even for "your faction". People often attribute this kind of thing to malice when it's really a case of you can't please everyone.
