White Wolf died. But where's the replacements? DnD has hundreds of clones. But where are all the vampire/mage/werewolf clones? Is because DnD is more generic and easier to copy?

This is a general for OSR, seperate from /osrg/, where you CAN talk about AD&D 2e, retroclones & other general OSR. This general exists (and is seperate from /osrg/) due to trolling on /osrg/ making discussion impossible.

>>
>>97310075
Might work to start with a small part of a setting like an adventure location or town and treat it like a character. Give it stats, build it and fill in the ideas. Then do that with a different location until you have a few, then link them together.
>>
>>97308547
Contrary to what other anons have said, vibes and aesthetics are 80% of what makes a good next session for me, since that's what I actually use to improv. That's the fun part. For the remaining 20% I try to apply the Alexandrian's smart prep principles, so stuff that
>is time-consuming to create
>requires special tools
>benefits from considered thought
>is difficult to improvise
so maps, lists of names, NPC goals, timelines & resources, etc.

i'm pretty lazy with metallics myself, but one thing you can do is edge highlight the sharp edge of the blade with a bright silver or lighter metallic color
i would also maybe add some shading on the part of the blade where it connects to the square heft of the axe, just to give it a bit more distinction
>>
>>97314058
I don't think highlighting alone will significantly improve the end result. Metallics benefit a lot from weathering, so I'd look into that.

It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind.

These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles.
But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status.

There is no shortage of men in peril.
Neither in classic nor in modern art.

>Men get mulched
>Women get to play dressup
Yeah, basically. And this is part of why gamers used to gatekeep our spaces.
Imagine if men showed up to knitting circles and quilting bees with automated looms and began to optimize square footage of textiles produced by the group. There's a reason men DON'T do that, though.
So why is it that women think it's ok when they do it?
The answer of course is that their entitlement and lack of self-awareness is indulged and validated at every level in society and culture. Stop letting them get away with it. Just fucking stop tolerating it. Treat them equally, finally, for a change. And don't bend or compromise about it.

Moss is a hunter with some pretty decent skill in tracking, and is introduced making a fairly long-ranged shot.

He was not some green beret living-weapon like Rambo, but he did two tours and came back with enough expertise and self assurance to calmly walk into the remnants of a cartel firefight and even to decide to return. When arming himself later, he's confident enough to know not just exactly what weapon he wants but to modify the purchased shotgun for close-quarters/concealment, so it's safe to assume that he's had a fair amount of experience (and range of experience).

He has all the pieces of an intelligent person who should be able to make smart decisions and put together clues, and should have no reason to care about whether the person or people tracking him are regular thugs, time-displaced page boys from the 13th century, or both. He should have eliminated his tracks and whatever could have been used to track him, and avoided places and situations where information could be obtained by people. Or, he could have baited a trap and sprung it. Instead, his whole plan is just "Hope they have the methods to track me only to my first room but not my second."

Both Bowlcut and the Mexicans have borderline supernatural abilities in getting information in this universe, and that's fine. But Moss is clearly anticipating being found and found quickly, meaning he is not underestimating the danger, just failing to do anything to properly address it.

The film built him up as an unexpected rival to this "ultimate hit man", with Moss even being able to win in a gunfight, and generally not lose to such a "genius", only succumbing to luck/Mexicans in the end. The problem is neither character was really all that smart, despite us being fed clues (and if that failed, a small sermon) that they should be.
>>
>>97314165
Anon, the movie literally starts with Moss fucking up his shot while hunting.

58% chance to get a fireball for free isnt worth it? Forcing them to use their fated roll at minimum is worth that if you have another spell. With only a 1/36 chance of it blowing up. Ruby ring is good.
>>
>>97313534
35 points from a character's magic item budget and locking off the rest of the enchanted items category is not free. It's a good item, don't get me wrong, but let's not get things twisted. A 58% chance (before dispels) to cast a spell that does 2d6 S4 AP0 hits isn't exactly stellar. A wizard hero has other items he needs to take (lore familiar + power scroll is mandatory for most armies) and a wizard lord typically also has other things he needs to buy to be functional (also the lore familiar, good lord why did they design the spell lores so poorly). You could take it on a non-wizard character, but that just makes the ring even worse. If you're not casting it every turn, you're wasting points.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

In older editions they would be called Pseudo Magic Items, it's a little weird to get that many in act 1. But in the city it feels right, maybe a touch more fitting in Halruaa or Waterdeep but a major city like the Gate would have its fair share.

>>97313093
The gods doing shit in the realms is pretty common. They tend to be the active fuckups behind every major event in history. I have a campaign with a Karsite character where Karsus does show up just to remind her she's a failure for not being at his power level yet. I'm sure on some level he thinks he's helping. But he's also on the short bus of gods and can barely have paladins let alone do any major miracles.
>>
>>97314019
When I DM I love it when players come up with ideas and motivations like this. However, not all DMs are made the same. It may just never matter depending on the campaign that’s planned. Have a chat with your DM about it.

An idea for the fungus could be the Yellow Musk Creeper https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Yellow_musk_creeper
>>
>>97314019
Ask your DM about using the Ruined background without involving the deck of many things. It's very fitting for the scenario you want.
Your cure is going to be largely plot related, but making a ranger or a druid and leaning into the academic side to study fungus would be a great start. Best advice I can give is asking your DM about research societies in the world and letting them know your character will be very interested in consulting them. For the right kind of DM you've got a perfect hook that's giving you motivation to adventure and left them a lot of freedom to write in a story. For a DM who doesn't like that kind of thing you'll never find a single spore that can help. Talking with him and setting expectations for both parties is essential.

thanks for the ideas

trying to get my nibling to DM for the first time, so it's probably up to me to suggest how my character can make progress on his personal quest.
they are playing a freakishly strong mute mushroom man that we're modeling off a dragonborn. i want the solution to my problem to be fungus related so i don't outright reject his N/PC given my backstory when it starts following me or the group in the first session. making the solution plot related seems like the way to go, and it doesn't necessarily have to be found in our first adventure.
as a side note, we were having fun coming up with our characters. when the question came up how does the mushroom guy eat, i suggested he carry around a log as a weapon that doubles as his provisions which he just stands on at night.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

All good, we both erred. I did play around with gear grids a bit on TTS and realized you could take dragon armor, red core, two of the katars, and either a monster tooth necklace and have 10 strength with sharp on a leap before survivor strength, so you can at least have the possibility to trigger surpass on every quarry monster without the AA.

The GM told you AS THE COMMANDER, NOT THE GM that the mission was routine and you're essentially butthurt that the character he was playing is not omniscient. He even asked you out of character if that's really what you wanted to do, really hinting that you shouldn't.
