I was diving in the archives and discovered this thing that /tg/ made a long time ago. Catgirls + an underwater world. It looks like the project withered away and everyone involved left this board ten or so years ago.

So, how was it? Did it ever get off the ground?

Thanks for posting what you did thus far.
I am curious about these images, do you have any of them?
>Drawfags come and go as they please and this was a long time ago.
It's sad to track an artist, if they name-fagged, in the archive, and they just suddenly stop posting one day. Not just here but on other boards too, I've experienced this. It's eerie. You never know when it will be the last time you'll ever see a person, much like how they didn't know it would be the last time they post on /tg/ (or whatever other board).
>You can actually copy out the art from the PDF and save it onto your machine by right clicking on the images. That should net you 5 and 6.
It's not quite the same as having the original files, though.
What's been posted so far matches hashes in the archive under "View Same". This is the first time many of these images have been posted here in over ten years.

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

It's probably just that every story that ACKShill tells is boring.
>>
>>97389877
>Why B/X lacks % in lair?
As Anon said, it's not clear – my personal theory is that it's ultimately because of the division into Basic and Expert. No, hear me out: B/X is premised on the idea that only dungeon crawling elements of the game are explained in Basic (those being the most fundamental parts of D&D gameplay) and the wilderness exploration elements are detailed in Expert, once the PCs are of a level to cope with them. A consequence of this is that the % in Lair stat would make no sense in Basic – it's not used by any systems, so it would only be confusing (to brand-new referees!) for it to be present in Basic. Moldvay very reasonably cut it. But this created a problem for Cook when he went to write Expert: lots of monsters now have no % in Lair stat, including ones you'd expect to have them like orc and goblin tribes. Does he just put a table in summarizing this stat for all Basic monsters? Or does he reprint every Basic monster that might appear in the wilderness, in full? You see the issue. I think he just went ahead and cut the stat, for ease and consistency.

>>97390578
I honestly thought Simulacrum Anon used the OD&D rules straight off so they're adapted to 5-mile hexes. In any case I agree with Anon saying just not to bother with any kind of conversion. Play them as-is.
>>
>>97391501
>More on topic: are most campaigns run using a hexcrawl for the 'overworld'?
Pretty much all of them. The rules prescribe doing that and, frankly, none of the alternatives attempted, such as pointcrawls, are anywhere as good.

>I really like the sound of the Wilderlands of High Fantasy's science fantasy elements.
If you want to look into it, try to get your hands on Rob Conley / Bat in the Attic revisions. Much not readable and high quality maps, although you still want to have the original ones as well because Rob omitted stuff like the generators.
>>
>>97391884
That would be plausible were it not for the fact that Moldvay and Cook wrote the books in parallel and consulting each other, it's not like Cook was tasked with writing the Expert after Moldvay was done with it. They must have consulted.

>>
>>97392501
Kinda, the game has been translated to spanish, italian, german, japanese and iirc french and portuguese, however most people DO treat the english translation as the default due to shitty localizations and/or rulings not being specific in other languages (if vs when, send vs destroy, affect the cards vs affect the player, etc), so you can get away with playing in say, german, but you also need to know english to avoid getting "sharked" in locals, never mind YCS tournaments where the judges are mostly american.

Neat. Again, subjective opinions are welcome, you're not required to like it. Know what else is welcome? How about everyone that is here to talk about what they like about the game, posting cards they have or wanting to discuss strategy. No need to constantly let folks prop up hateful rhetoric with fake posts designed to damage the reputation of a game here.

Whatever transgressions they fabricate don't change the fact that the game is on topic for the thread. Reminder, irrational shitposting isn't on topic, so flag anything you see that's obvious, the troll has no shame.

>gameplay
For Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.
>fantasy settings
They're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions.
>loadouts for fantasy
If you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

That'd be nice. There was a mobile game in the works that looked like it'd be Sega's version of Fire Emblem Heroes. Sadly, that got scrapped.

There was the Phantasy Star TTG that Skydawn put together, as I'd mentioned before >>97289191
, but from what I've heard, it kinda shit the bed. I'd like to get my hands on a copy of the pdf so I can judge for myself, but all the online reviews were a mixture of "not that great" to "it's good...if you're a hardcore Phantasy Star enjoyer and must own everything PS related". I'd like something like that for Shining Force, but maybe handled by a better publisher.

I'd be fine with either a D&D-style game with Shining Force window dressing or a wargame that focused on individual units and played more like the original Shining Force titles, with maybe a hex board or something like that, where battles could be streamlined, and the story would be secondary to quicker action.

Does your party even care? Does your setting/game system even care? Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

I personally find that Victorian aesthetics, and even 19th-century firearms, tend to get absorbed into the "generic high fantasy" banner.

Whether it is D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, Draw Steel, or Daggerheart, it does not seem to be particularly uncommon for one character to be a knight in full plate while another character is a 19th-century-esque gunslinger or pseudo-steampunk gadgeteer (or both).

I should know, because I have GMed for and played in parties exactly like this in all of the aforementioned systems.

Another oddly specific point where this rings true is that if someone is asked to envision a generic "noblewoman," it is a 50/50 shot on whether they picture something medieval/Renaissance-ish or something more Victorian.

Victorian and other 19th-century aesthetics got gobbled up by the "generic high fantasy" genre.

After messing with his head through nightmares about his family selling his stuff after he dies the noble gets terrified about what will happen to his collection and decides the best way to keep it safe forever is to find someone who will care about it as much as he does. At a party he over hears someone from a different world talk about how Trazyn the Infinite stole some relics from their estate. Thinking that Trazyn is a collector like himself the noble decides to find him and donate his collection so it will stay safe from his family.

That's a quick summery of what I want to start with. Ignoring the ordeal of getting to him and the shock of finding out that Trazyn is a Necron, what would Trazyn do if the noble actually got to him and showed off his large collection of art? And what would he want to keep? Is there a particular kind of human artifact he would be interested in? Rarity, age, what would he care about?

I will blame this largely on wotc's methods of storytelling. Books and novels didn't get the brand out there by writing novels about Urza and the Weatherlight scant few players read. The comics are bad joke not even the lorefags seem to pay attention to. Now we're stuck with at the bottom of the barrel, web stories written by freelance writers and character lore through fucking web articles. Regardless of any of the material being good this just isn't how you get people to care. They need a movie, a TV show, anything they can watch. That is how you build a brand.

Nobody but hardcore comic geeks gave a shit about Invincible for 15 years until it got a normalfag TV show. Now it's popular. New manga flies under the radar all the time until it gets an anime then it's popular. Old unc novels like Dune are popular but only catch fire as a brand when they get turned into watchable movies. Wotc has not ventured into this space. Fuck, look at Yugioh if you need proof it works for card games. Yugioh would have been washed away by the sands of time without all the anime seasons it's received.
