>>97234840Full time YGO player, part time MTG player here. I don’t mind that your guys’ game has UB so long as the Universe could conceivably fit within the lore of MTG already. For example, I didn’t mind the Warhammer UB at all, since it was high fantasy with an aesthetic that didn’t look far off from MTG, and I think they did a great job matching factions and colors. What gets me is the shoehorning of franchises that don’t belong anywhere near high fantasy (Marvel, Transformers, Fallout). Heck, if you take out Black Aragorn the LoTR set wasn’t too bad. UB is a symptom of the problem IMO, the problem being a push for low entry and inclusivity in a game that should be proud of its history is a niche, skill-based game.
What are the funniest wargame mechanics you've ever encountered?
>>97237079Ah yes, the "Everything is a TPK, RAW" rule.Someone actually thought that would be a good idea.

In Necromunda, the Cawdor Gang have a set of ambiguously supernatural prayers they can invoke for special effects mid game. Most of these are rolled to see if they activate at the beginning of the turn. One of them, however, grants extra jumping distance, as the Ganger beseeches the Emperor for the power of flight. This one is rolled for after you start jumping, in midair, so there's a good chance that the model jumps, and then you roll, and he plummets to his death. Good for a laugh, every time.
The table to roll on when trying to get Henry VIII's wife pregnant and birth a son.Only made all the more hilarious by the player shouting at one point during the game:"How the fuck do I get my wife pregnant?"(Here I Stand)
i don't know shit about wargames, someone post that 40k guy who built a wall of units around the edge of the table.

>>97226235Nah, get to the victory condition and read the bit again. You're a godhead. Its fucked and weird planet being merged, but its post human condition stuff.
>>97227725If you're trying to get into who was right, about a thing that didn't happen we don't have actual information on, it doesn't work. Its just people jerking off whichever faction ties in closest with their irl ideological bias. All the victories that aren't planet victory imply planet storyline is immanent, so that happens next. Every time. Its a consciousness transference program. It is death. But its better than the alternative.

>>97221448Planet and the fungus/worms were abominations that needed to be eradicated. But, the age was also that of large interest in psychics and "ascending" so the good ending of the game is humanity being subsumed into a nightmarish fungus hive-mind.

Previous thread: >>97111514GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?
If we're doing Christmas movies, is there a good way to handle characters who can spawn more of their kind really quickly, like the Mogwai/Gremlins?How about characters which permanently shift to another template, potentially one with a different point total?
How about John McClane? IIRC he only gets shot once (in Die Hard, at least), with his own handgun (a Beretta 92, presumably loaded with standard power 9mm FMJ or JHP, more likely the former given the era). It's a Hollywood 'only got hit in the shoulder, no problem' flesh-wound, so probably using cinematic combat rules to just get rid of damage, but what if you had to get similar levels of toughness without cinematic rules? He takes dozens of blunt impacts, but only a couple of them seem like absolutely brutal ones (Karl kicking him through a thick piece of wood, swinging into the side of the building). Explosions are cinematic fireballs, but mostly seem far enough away that I wouldn't expect fatal injuries from the blasts. Even shooting the movie gave Bruce Willis permanent hearing damage, so I expect that the 'real' McClane would need some seriously tough eardrums to hear anything at all by the end of the film.
>>97237472>a caltrop, thrust-2 impaling based on his STThat seems like a weird way for caltrops to work. It's not like super strong guys press down into the Earth with more force than a guy of similar mass walking similar gaits
>>97237684While the villains in Home Alone only stay on their feet for a few minutes after they take serious damage, McClane keeps going for what seems like an hour or more. No level of Hard to Subdue will let you stay active for that long in negative HP, because eventually you will roll 17+ and pass out. So McClane has at least one of:>enough HP to absorb getting shot, beaten, thrown around by explosions, and several long falls>some form of DR, probably with limitations like tough skin, crushing only, and ablative>the Roll With Blow cinematic technique>some method of recovering HP quickly>some way of ignoring damage, such as cinematic combat rulesGoing by the options available to 'normal' people through the special exercises perk, he could take something like DR 1 (Tough Skin; Limited, Crushing), DR 1 (Tough Skin; Torso Only), and DR 1 (Ablative). Raise HP to around 15-16 and he can tank a lot of punches and falls, and not slow down much with one bullet hole in him, but is still fairly vulnerable to weapons. That seems about right for what we see in the first few films at least.Decent HT, Fit, and Hard to Subdue are still likely, as he often ends up in an absolutely battered state by the end of the films and has to keep pushing himself through the finale. Still, if we assume a large starting HP pool, he shouldn't be in multiple negative HP, so no need to have effective HT much above 16.
>>97237956Yeah, it's one of those cases where GURPS suffers from not having a separate 'mass' characteristic, so it uses ST or HP as a poor substitute. Damage based on HP would be more appropriate, since that is at least more directly tied to mass in other rules (e.g. collisions), but 'look up thrust as if your HP were ST' is a rather awkward rule. The damage cap seems to make it bad at scaling with extra large creatures anyway, so it might as well have just been 1d-4 or something regardless of who treads on it.

>>97237735>"The God-Emperor will punish you for your pride.">"Such certainty..." Salafié gave a hollow laugh, "Know that I have been slain time and again over the centuries, and ever have I been recalled to life by the same technologies for which you call me heretic. Yet in all of this, never has the Emperor passed judgment on my soul. If I am damned, it is by my hand alone.">"Blasphemy..." the word came reflexively to the Inquisitor's lips. "Blasphemy!" he bellowed once more, raising an accusing finger at the Priestess.>Moving with a speed and force the Inquisitor could not have hoped to counter, Salafié seized his outstretched arm, bones cracking under the grip of pneumatic claws. Even as he tried to pull away, Corsini felt his heavily muscled frame yielding to the hideous strength of metal limbs that folded him into an embrace and drew him irresistibly towards the precipice.>"I waste my words on you, zealot," she hissed in Corsini's ear as she forced him closer and closer to the howling gulf of open air. "Well, Inquisitor? Here is your prey, and there the ledge. If you are so sure of your faith, but ask it of me and I will bear us both down to our fate below, and prove whether the Emperor's will is the match to my artifice." >With a sudden exertion, the Inquisitor wrenched himself free from Salafié's grasp, collapsing to the deck with a groan. "I have nothing to prove to you, abomination," the Inquisitor gasped between ragged breaths, "You will not escape judgment!">"You lack the courage of your convictions, Inquisitor." the Priestess sneered down at him, before sweeping away to rejoin her noble guests, confident that beneath the Inquisitor's costume of fanaticism beat the heart of a coward. But for all her talents, Salafié was a poor judge of character, and even as Corsini lay upon the decking nursing his shattered arm in the fading evening light, he resolved that he would be a martyr before the dawn.

it's always interesting when people write entirely in memes. Like they're so afraid of seriously engaging with the material or getting "trolled" that they force their genuine views into a twisted form of self-mockery to make sure everybody knows they're cool.
>>97233054>since 3rd editionSo you admit its an aberration from the original spirit of 40k.
Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle. If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

Shit, I make half the shit I roll for random NPCs up on the fly using average modifiers for what the NPC would have, I let enemies with 1 HP die instead because my players have no fucking clue and no sane individual would notice the difference, Shit I'll roll encounter tables and if it seems like it's going to be annoying just fucking lie about that. It's incredibly easy to fudge dice, numbers, or just ignore rolls.
>>97235121NTA but it's a game about make-believe. You're telling a story together and everything the GM does should be in service of a more interesting story. If it's more interesting to let the filler random encounter combat end early, good. If it's more interesting to realize "oh shit I underestimated the party better slap another 50% extra HP onto this boss" or "I better give him a second phase because they curbstomped him since I didn't realize they were just built different" fine. As long as everyone at the table is having fun who gives a shit? And here's something: Not everyone enjoys what you do. I know! You have autism! Sorry for your loss of humanity.
