What are your thoughts on this?I have never been a die hard fan of greek mythology but I do not dislike itMy group wants to run a long campaign with this starting january
>>97275681>>97273008
>>97272541I liked it at first, but then read something gay in in it and stopped liking it
>>97275440Seems about what I heard. Just points you to existing races and statblocks like how Planeshift books often did.Certainly annoying for them to mentioned things like characters changing between Lorwyn or Shadowmoor, or those regions of petrifying mist, but not actually put any mechanics on what it means. Also unsurprising is the locations. The kithkin are in small hamlets. The boggarts are in a warren. The elves are in their palace. Very little actual mention of the elf culture and laws though, which is extremely important to a Lorwyn campaign. Basically on par with not mentioning the Sorcerer-Kings from Dark Sun own slaves. Bestiary is similarly unsurprising. Half-dozen entries, nothing particularly special. The suggestion to use the core Scarecrow statblock for Shadowmoor scarecrows is a little insulting though. Shadowmoor scarecrows are usually way weirder. Telling people to just use any Construct statblock would have been more accurate. What stands out the most is the premade adventures though. They seriously made a single map for a kithkin community center, and then just put both modules in it. I'd be at least mildly more impressed if they'd bothered to make a Lorwyn and Shadowmoor version of the same building, but no. It's just two Lorwyn adventures in a book all about duality. The adventures themselves aren't anything special. First is sabotage at a contest, except there's no mystery to who's behind it, just beating up constructs until the culprit reveals themselves.Second is bodyguarding during a banquet. Pretty sure this one is nigh impossible if you run it straight, because the 11 HP target the players are guarding gets 'accosted' by a CR 6 Invisible Stalker. That is for the best, because it spares everyone the retardation of the final encounter.Overall I'd put it behind Theros, but still ahead of Strixhaven. There's much less here, but it doesn't entirely neglect the plane's history and bothered to include some notes on locations.
What is this a Greek expansion for D&D?
>>97272541You're going to read all Theros content from MtG that you can get your hands on and it probably still won't be enough, the setting book in question is very light on details it should've included. Having some knowledge on ancient Greece so that you can fill in these gaps with historically relevant information wouldn't be a bad idea.
Post your favourite Warhammer Terrain kek
>>97281042Because absolute shitgibbons handle the terrain on a regular basis. I, and a few other hobbyists hand-made dozens of pieces of terrain for our favorite LGS so they could hold tournaments, both 40k and Warmachine (before it died) and have tables with varied, fluffy terrain. We had desert buildings, we had jungle terrain, we had plenty of city ruins using GWs 40k terrain kits, and also plenty of medieval buildings using WHFB kits. All painted and assembled with care.It was all broken within three months by the fucktards who would grab terrain, literally throw it on the table and then throw it back into the case they got it from and pile it up and push it down until it broke just to get the door closed again. This is why most stores can't have nice things. They have to cater to the lowest common denominator of fucktard, and that denominator's IQ is downright fucking negative.

>>97281914don't you have anything better to do with your time
>>97281174What am I supposed to be upset at here other than the god-awful angle of the photo? All models I can see are painted (and based), even the movement trays are decorated.Terrain is sparse, but that's mostly what you want for WHFB/TOW. You need room to maneuver.

God I love Taunting. There is nothing better than having a deck of CS Shakkoumon and Trident Arms to just molest your opponent out of existence.
>>97281703Yuji is bad because you can't cheat it into play and it doesn't do anything on play. It is simply too slow to be put into modern lists.Conversely, Kosuke CAN be cheated into play, and can be used to trigger multiple different effects.>id rather run more laplace's demonLaplace is okay, but having a taunt thay comes naturally when evolving is much better.
>>97271135Cheerio.
>>97281879i dont feel like cheating out kosuke is even worth it. like you need bt16 doru in breeding or to play and have it live. then on your second turn you use it to put kosuke under, then when you end, assuming the doru or whatever you digivolved into survives, you play it out on your second turn. i could just play it normally at that point if i opened it
The DMG refers to eight different types of players. Was it correct?
>>97281180Sadly, to my knowledge, nobody else tried. They come up with Grand Unifying Theories and worked backwards from that.
>>97280550They aren't discrete. One of my players is equal parts Actor/Storyteller/Thinker/Instigator.
>>97280550No. In fact I'm not even saying it's too broad or abstract or whatnot, it's just inaccurate and even harmful to new GMs. As the chad GM in >>97281176 screencap points out, you shouldn't even fucking consider "Watchers" and "Slayers" human and prep for them if you value your time and sanity.
>>97280550>>97281176These categories don't describe players. They describe tools GMs can try to use to engage players, by treating those players in a particular manner.Have you used these? Were they successful for you? If yes to both, then they're accurate insofar as they're helpful to you. If you haven't, then you're just trying to pigeon hole everyone but yourself in a way that's inaccurate and pointless because people are drastically more complex than that. They don't describe people at all. They describe how you can try to interact with other people, if you need some help with such a basic function.
>>97281210Of course. Im not sure what good such a theory would even be at the end of the day.

>>97281071>That option is supposed to replace itself every Jump with a new oneAs in, you can't even keep the brainwashed students in your basement or something? That should probably be called out then, since the Simps section header says all options are Followers but some may work more specifically.Poor Misaki. A shame, but ah well.>That said, being a Wasp is the one that guarantees a reason why she can't just control you.Not even LOVE? Alas!Nah, that tracks. Though if you take female human here without a way of protecting yourself from stings I'm pretty sure you are *literally* asking for it.As for building to counter her, it's less intentionally doing that and more that as mentioned, her whole Smother Mother-Dom thing kind of falls apart just with the basic "be Queen, have Soldiers, they instinctively hate her minions" issue. A bit of a problem when that's her whole deal.Speaking for myself, I've done several Wasp builds for different chains and they all took Misaki, while any build that takes(/is taken by) Red would be Human (with a penis and/or mind control immunity, because Himenospia). But oh well, it's just an extra 100cp for out-of-origin anyway.>Kind of stretching it but sure.Sweet.

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies. These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence. This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.(Continued.)
What are the mechanics of the system? It's running storyteller i presume? I don't know anything beyond it being Xd10

>>97217964>>97217974How do existing Conspiracies ala Hunter the Vigil fit in with these? I bet the Cheiron Group have made a few accidental Tyrants in their time.
What do I need to replicate EGO from project moon?
>>97277915>>97280346It is ultimately the same d10-based dice pool game as Chronicles of Darkness in general, for good or for ill.Resource-management-wise, Deviants have no "Mana" pool. Instead, they work off 1/scene, 1/chapter, and in some cases, 1/story abilities. (Almost like D&D 4e.) However, each Clade has a method of instantly recharging abilities.Black Vans' earlier chapters introduce ways to adjust dice rolling, such as by allowing automatic success under certain conditions.>>97281142The Player's Guide to the Contagion Chronicle actually has a small section on crossing over Deviant and Hunter specifically, though this was not written by Eric Zawadzki.Eric Zawadzki did, however, write Black Vans, which has a much larger and comprehensive section on crossing over Deviant and Hunter.Comment too long. Christmas edition▶What is Kingdom Death?Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0AcThe Game is broken up into 3 phases:1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. >>97277026>>97276969Yes the actual target of it is bad, and yes it's just a card flip. And yes the "add event in x years" is awesomeBut the first thing is just a balance thing, like it could be "the lowest XP kills the highest XP, add takes half his xp/split his xp between the other survivors that catch the murder" it can be made fineand for being a card flip, I see it as a settlement inevitability, it has settlement consequences, even if it's a card flip, it's a thing that can happen and it's how that affects your settlement/story, and what they do about it, it leads to something, it's a storybuilding effectI would be fine with a card that says "the oldest person over X hunt xp in the settlement, has died of old age", things happen, what does your settlement do about itI wouldn't be fine with a random event saying "if you are old over X hunt xp you die"
>>97276969>>97277026>>97277501Could do what community edition did and say "when you draw this card, put it on the timeline for next year" so you have time to bring out your most valuable survivors.

I will buy recasts of monsters in order to have multiple palette swaps for higher levels. Also because spidicules is a spindly fuck and I need to practice ways to magnetize or convert his ass into something more wieldable for play.
Alright, Tyrant Lvl3 is dead (after a very scary early harvester incantation draw...) and we have our 4th people of the star and our 2nd and 3rd frozen heart. I think we're going to work on polishing their gear grids now, we've got 2 calcified shoulder pads cooking that'll pop right before the level 3 nemesis at 23, going to see if we can get 2 beast knuckles and a set of Lantern armor and dragon slayer for our katar and grand weapon user respectively. Ultimately, we're hoping to finish this campaign this weekend before we have to get to work, so we honestly might say it's a wipe to the king man at 23 to save time since we still don't have pottery (thank God barber burgeoning locked behind that anymore)

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle. If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.
>>97271637>Either way GM/DM advice is useless because every GM, theor skills, style, and what they want is different. There is still advice that is universal regardless of what your style is.
>>97235163These are very close to Alexander Macris's example scenarios where fudging is "justifiable", however he is a simulationist (which is rare), while most narrativists state that you should actively fudge the dice for the purpose of "telling a good story" or preventing lethality.Example of a narrativist defending fudging for purposes other than patching mistakes/illogical gameplay results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vguHd5IHFAgI agree with >>97235185 that in the first scenario it is better to have enemies behave logically than like video game enemies (making enemies surrender/flee is actually good for grimdark), and that roll tables for encounters are mostly suggestions/idea seeds/map-making tools rather than an exact description of how the world is structured, and that if you have a premade setting you should probably also have custom encounter tables for it rather than using the ones in the base rules.
>>97271637>think session zeros should be a thing, formal or informal.Session zero is a gay concept. Informal? Ok then it's not a session zero, it's campaign planning and chargen. Wow. Hipsters just need a new word for everything.
What is the most important thing to keep in mind if I want to dm?
>>97281952That DMing is a choice and if you're not having fun with it, then you don't need to keep forcing yourself to.Like I considered actually actionable advice, but I do think it's important to remember that outside of rare circumstances, being a DM is always a choice, which is why they put up with tables that aggravate and antagonize them and vice versa without considering on just being the adult and talking it out or walking away.
