Every time I search for a cool "barbarian" in some RPG, no matter if it's dark fantasy or not, it's always the half-naked dude or chick that looks like he / she has just wake up after an university party. It gives the same vibes that you get from watching an historical film and for some reason, the filmmakers hate natural colors and must put a filter that ruins your immersion. Is it there a good RPG with proper "barbarians"?
>>96461450>taking it backIf that's the angle I'd rather take a word that doesn't make sense for me to take because it means someone respected and important that I, as a foreigner, would never actually be. Why take gaijin when I can call myself Shogun, pissing off everyone in the proccess and titling myself the supreme military commander that usurped the emperor at the same time.

>>96456306DnD is a bloody mess when you move out of medieval magic fantasy setting.Check Cepheus Light. Cepheus is the generic version of the Traveller system, and Cepheus Light is a lite version so players don't have to spend much effort learning a new system.Another option is Mothership, gritty scifi. It's not DnD, but DnD players usually love it.

>>96462814I think those numbers are better and give you more flexibility overall. If you want a deathstar with the banner that benefits the whole unit, keep the 10x6 and see how it goes for a few games. Personally I'd try maybe:>8x3 8x3 6x2Or if you can find 3 more models: >7x3 7x3 7x3I think that gives the best mix between: >Tactical flexibility>Manoeuvrability>Getting lots of shots off >Ensuring everyone is within fighting range if you get into combat. Also don't forget sea guard can redress the ranks for free when charged, so you could always start the game in 2 ranks of 10 (plus 1) for shooting, and then stand and shoot *and* then switch to 3 ranks of 7, for free, when charged for combat.
Previous thread: >>96346915GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: What is your opinion on the art in GURPS books?
>Basic Set p. 287: A TL0 wooden medium shield weighs 15 lb and has DR 7. A TL1 metal medium shield weighs 30 lb and has DR 10.>Low-Tech p. 116 and Low-Tech Companion 2 p. 19: A TL0 wooden medium shield weighs 14 lb and has DR 4. A TL1 metal medium shield weighs 11 lb and has DR 4.>High-Tech p. 72: A TL6 metal medium shield weighs 30 lb and has DR 10.I assume that the Low-Tech rules are effectively errata for the Basic Set rules. In that case, is it just impossible to get a shield with DR 10 at TL1?
>>96462767Better art would have been too expensive. It beats having no art so I am appreciative of what we have.
I don't play 40k and I don't have any of the books, but I have ONCE AGAIN heard some people talking about how powerful the space marines are, compared to normal people, and I had a sudden thought I need rules knowledge to disambiguate. If a unit with 1 surviving standard guardsman charges a unit with 1 surviving standard marine what are the dice rolls that determine the results of that one charge? Assuming the luckiest rolls possible, is it possible for that guardsman to kill that marine? If it isn't possible to do the 1-turn kill, what are the rolls the marine will make in retaliation, and what are the odds that the guardsman survives those to get another try against the marine?(I'm not sure if "standard marine" and "standard guardsman" make sense - if you're playing a specific codex, will there be rules that make *every* marine non-standard, or is there a type of marine that every chapter gets? And same for the guardsman. If there's no "standard," then I guess I'm thinking of a Cadian charging an Ultramarine, just for being the two poster-boy codexes)

>>96462570I am going to treat you like an idiot because this is a stupid question, but I am going to give you a correct answer because it bothers me to have people giving out inaccurate information. If you ask the magical light box (ie: Google it) you might be surprised how easy this information is to collect. In the latest edition a single guardsman remaining from a unit of standard guard infantry (Cadians, Catachans or Krieg) cannot kill a single remaining Space Marine from a standard space marine infantry squad (Intercessors or Tacticals) in a single round of fighting. This is because regular guard have only damage 1 for their melee attacks and a Space Marine has 2 wounds. In order for a single guardsman to kill a Space Marine in a single Fight phase, the survivor must be a sergeant (Cadians) or watchmaster (Krieg) with a specialist close combat weapon, either a Power Sword or Chain Sword. Either will provide at least one additional attack and make it possible for them to kill the Marine before they retaliate. As for the specific odds of outcomes, I direct you towards the Quick Start Rules on the official website, six sided dice and a calculator. You can also google one of the plethora of mathhammer apps people have made in like half an hour with bits of string, buttons and a twist tie.

>>96461783Might as well, no harm in printing. Fuck it, NetEA it is
>>96423144Honestly the new edition is pretty good, the big soup lists (botfa, pelennor, motw, mordor, grand armor, etc) cover most of what you'd do with old alliance matrix anyways, plus a lot of the new army lists let models and combos be fun where before they were basically unplayablein terms of listbuilding I had more fun brainstorming weird lists in last edition, but in terms of actual games the new one has a lot of improvementsbiggest failure of the new edition is ringwraiths without a doubt, totally murdered an iconic profile for nothing. losing special strikes kinda sucks too, but tbqh sword/axe strikes were lame and bad for the game, if only they kept the ones for staffs/maces/clubs for some models
>>96455654>>96453513>>96453482>>96452083I would get the black orc team but it’s OOS at the only retailer in my country that stocks BB (the rest are the big mainline GW games). I don’t know when it will come back if ever since they lost their exclusivity deal with GW, but as luck would have it somebody posted an imperial nobility team a few days back on our local secondhand forum. It’s about 27-28 USD with shipping. I like the models, the fat dudes, and their uniforms, but will they be skewed or complicated like the goblin team? They’re honestly so cheap I may as well get them. Will I get filtered by the “puff and slash” pants that imperials are famous for? I’m quite fond of their box art scheme as I never paint anything purple. Oh and do need to buy another box to build all the variants or can I just let my opponent now before the game like “this guy is built like Y but he’s X” or is that not a concern at all? And if I need an ogre or star player or w/e I think I can print them or try to find them cheap. I have a few projects in front of them in my hobby queue.

>>96459272No, they're just metallics. It's likely this metallic paint from AK interactive that's fooling you. It's much clearer in person. You just need a dark metallic, apply very thinned down black and pull it into the recesses and lower parts, do the same again but with a brown, then use a medium metallic and paint upwards and towards details. Finally some fine highlights with a bright metallic and some scratches, can also use a dark grey for damage.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>96458216My idea was to keep it 100% as authentic and historical as possible, rewatched the Rome tv series, the whole deal. Then as a DM I had to find a way to make druids scary, so of course I gave them magic powers (MUs to make it more sword and sorcery). Shit went sideways from there. Soon druids went from throwing a fireball here and there to raising undead armies, and how to forget the barbarian werewolves! Rather than keeping it at that cozy level, I kept upping the ante to the point there was a whole zombie apocalypse, so the players escaped to Egypt with Mark Antony and at that point you just have to add the pyramids and Stargate, and that's where it ended.Fun campaign (really short too, I don't think it lasted more than 20 sessions), still want to run a proper historical campaign tho.
