What kind of fantasy monsters are you into? I like original abominations, standard humanoids/mythological creatures/giant animals are boring to me.
>>
>>97228517
I like thinking about how fantasy monsters would affect the world around them. What would a world with these kind of abominations look like?
Probably a whole lot fewer people living behind palisades, a much better trained levy that uses mostly long spears/pikes. Trade occurs with heavily armored and escorted caravans, making it much more expensive. The existential threat of these wouldn’t obviate political war but there would probably be some concession to deal with these beings. Holy orders that can kill these beings would be lauded. Plate armor would probably be more widely distributed by holy orders. The church would likely have substantially more authority.

It’s the opposite. I don’t care that much about the lore but i likewise don’t want to play against some ballaching metafag which is the majority of people i’ve met in KT so far. To claim that you just want to “throw some dice” is absurd when metafags are the least casual players you can go against.

My last game had my opponent go over the entire meta leaderboard status of the top teams and how the newest dataslate could impact the upcoming this and that other fuckin tournament. Who gives a shit.

>>97216044
I’ve never met the latter in my life in any game. I would find a /yourdudes/ autist pretty annoying i’m sure but i’ve yet to even meet one to make this observation.

The most fun games are somewhere in the middle where it’s a good clean fun game where the rules are observed but both sides remember that we are trying to simulate dudes fighting eachother and not merely moving spreadsheets around

>both sides remember that we are trying to simulate dudes fighting eachother and not merely moving spreadsheets around
Not instigating anything, but what would this look like to you? And how would it impact the game or enhance the enjoyment of the battle? I ask because used to live in a place where our local spot tried to implement a sort of narrative campaign but it ended up just being limply implemented and mostly limited to a whiteboard map that got colored in depending on what faction (Chaos, Xenos, Imperium) won the most games in any given week.
For me, KT has fun rules and good game design so just the act of playing is enjoyable; you could strip out the flavor of the teams and it still would be enjoyable on a mechanical level. Obviously the flavor is what adds the special spice to the game, getting to interact with the factions/setting you like and all that comes with that, but at its heart KT is still a warGAME to me.

Anyone played the new raveners ?
How do they play ? are they more of a aggro team or do they just hide in their tunnel and do missions mostly ?
>>
>>97228305
hard to discribebut they mostly play passive aggro. practically like traps. if som, ething comes to close to the tunnel. they seem durable but mostly aren't. so hit n run tactics are a must.

k makes sense, I assumed they were like a turn 3-4 team since the tunnel is such a big part of their power, thanks for the info

I think that D&D 2e/3.X/5e, Pathfinder, and Draw Steel's cosmologies all have major issues with scale and in-game practicality. Setting authors tend to get weird about scale whenever extra worlds are involved, and these are no exception.

These games' settings want to fulfill multiple conflicting desires:
• #1: One or more "flagship" fantasy worlds: the Realms/Greyhawk/Dragonlance trio in 2e, mostly just the Realms in 5e, Golarion in Pathfinder, Orden in Draw Steel.
• #2: A vast universe full of so many other worlds, so that GMs can feel cool about their own homebrew worlds somehow sharing the same universe.
• #3: Otherworldly planes full of celestials, demons, devils, fairies, and the like.
• #4: These planes are so vast that they influence many worlds simultaneously! We have heard since 2e about how the Blood War has spilled into and ruined many worlds. Pathfinder's Hell has "countless malebranche," each specifically tasked with conquering a whole world for Hell.
• #5: The adventures that take place on a "flagship" fantasy world are of super-great import. Their stakes and consequences ripple throughout even otherworldly planes.
• #6: The planes and their cities and hierarchies should be approachable in-game and understandable, not totally mind-boggling.

It's also a problem with numbers. 3e onwards can scale and level infinitely, but there's a point where that +1 to hit, or even +5, or +10 becomes naught but a rounding error. The Immortals Handbook books tried to create cosmic-scale D&D and had some really cool ideas, but the balance and number inflation resulted in it being hot garbage.

One big issue is that the games are designed with the idea that +21 is only a slightly better than +20 which is already in the realm of epic heroes, rather than "You're not a guy with +21 to the roll, you're one of the ten guys in the world with +21 to the roll, and there's five with +22, and one with +23, the guy with +25 is the weakest member of the Great 10 and..."

Another big problem is the d20, the bigger the core roll, the harder it is for a modifier to mean something. Though cosmic adventures are possible, the simple fact is that numbers break down at a certain point, and you end up having to do things like "My infinity is bigger than yours" or "Only paragon-tier and higher heroes can inflict damage on this monster".
>>
>>97227489
Fantasy is the last place there should be multiverse slop, all you need is one main terrestrial setting, a divine/heavenly realm, and a netherworld
>>
>>97227634
>"Only paragon-tier and higher heroes can inflict damage on this monster".
This is the norm in some settings.
>>
Multiverses and parallel timelines are the worst thing that can happen in any story for multiple reasons. Scale just happens to be one of them. These are concepts that appeal to literal retards that find the whole idea that there is more than one of a thing the most mind-blowing shit ever and genuinely believe that that makes them smarter.
>>
When it comes to worldbuilding, I use only 2-3 planes. Depending is the afterlife is canon.

Magic should NOT be rare.
It should be at minimum between uncommon and common. It should be well explained, yet at the same time it should not be given out like candy. Only few should have access to magic.
Small spells should be instant, without chants and require those depending on the spell's magnitude (not to mention specific reagents).
Magic should be powerful at least and bordering extremely close to reality warping if not being this, yet should also have the user pay the price for overdoing it.

Yes, hands are the most useful part of a mecha. Realistically a fighting vehicles would be more likely to have hands than feet

They should have hands and be humanlike, but barring that, should take on an animal form so you can at least keep the cool factor without going all walking trashcan with it.

Hey anons, A friend of mine has his birthday coming up and he's been using crappy cheap synthetic brushes up until now. I want to get him some nice brushes, but the problem is that he's vegan and has been for like 10 years, so sable is a no-go.
After doing some digging on my own, i found W&N make "Synthetic Sable" brushes, and monument hobbies make their Pro Synthetics, but I've not used either and don't know if they're any good.
Anyone here got any recommendations for good synthetics that don't hook after an hour of use?

You add several competing "dominate" species on top of it who are all competing with each other, as well as other "pest" races and monstrosities that make singling one out too much effort, as it would take resources away from other threats that need to be dealt with.

even if it wasnt at the end of battle its still a worse blue ot since that lets you plus from grave while already being a ninth crit
this is almost as bad as keter ot and worse than even dark states ot because the critical and drive dont carry over to the second attack

might be the worst ot we have ever gotten
>>
>>97228461
+drive for turn could at least potentially given it a niche in decks with restanding vanguards by swapping out the +1 from grave for a +2 from deck with trigger odds.
>>
>>97228472
problem with that is that +1 drive is competing with
>Dragveda who just restands your vanguard again without drive penalty, so you potentially get +2 drives on top of yet another vanguard swing
>Dark States ot that can bullshit games if you pull it early
>Blessfavor that still goes +1, possibly heals and is a front trigger
>blue ot being good in general to pull
>Eldobreath being such a blow out card late game that +1 drive looks pathetic in comparison
There's nearly no restander that has a weaker option than +1drive/crit and it's bizarre how, after all of the powercreep, this is what they settled on for a new ot, even if it was until end of turn

I can't have a cigarette, I could smoke a pack but my dead lungs don't work. Even if I force blood in them it won't absorb the nicotene, it won't make my brain pulse, because my brain is dead.

How the fuck does a dead man smoke cigarettes. I hang outside clubs, hopign to smell that stink, to find that vixen, that one who's too drunk and smoking too much when its too cold with no jacket. Fuck I want to breath in that stink, but instead I wait. The drunk are easy, just wait. They'll make a mistake. And there it is, she stumbled left, she left the crowd, she only has one cig left and I am left carrying her. Just around the corner , out of sight, out of ear shot. It only takes a moment, I run my hands over it, my nose over it. That smell, that ashy burnt smell, I bite. It's a foundational issue. Why did you put one cigarette at the bottom. Why do I need just
> One last cigarette
Forever.

I turn her around, I bring her back. I recognize her friends, I've been following their smell, it's not the first time. I should just stop. I'm a dead thing, I don't need this. But my head aches for it, my blood sings for it. I put my ciggie back in it's pack. They carry her away. They laugh about how trashed she gets. Her head lols on their shoulder and for a moment, unknown to the rest. Our eyes meet.
>She winks

I exhale, I can finally get about my night. I finally feel that pressure in my head let up, I feel not alive but ready to put up with all the bullshit and all the clowns, my circus of corpses. Fuck. I should really quit smoking.

>I don't want to benefit from someone else being in thralldom. Only reason I can tolerate this is a bond is somehow better than the default Malk mental package and I refuse to treat her like a thrall.
Oh, I don't mean it like that, babes! Not into that sort of slavery myself, comes with the Tremere turf to not like it overmuch.
I meant more, she got a good reading for questions relating to how well her bondage would go. She'd benefit from it, in some way - and she's liking it. That means that the bondage will perhaps continue for a decent while, to good results; and that means that you, yourself, are probably not going to suddenly die tomorrow. Can't be bound to a pile of ash, now can she.
Inferring good things for yourself out of readings for other people is a fine art, where you've got to balance an urge to see yourself not die horribly with realism and a bit of skepticism. This, I think, definitely leans towards a justifiable good reading for you, all in all. So you benefit.

Oh, I can tell, I just wanted to scold you a little. I don't get to call people bat-babies very often.
And your resistance thing is fun! Not sure if it's actually real or you all are just insane and are knee-deep in interwoven blood bonds, but I have heard about blood bond resistance, even if mostly through third- and fourth-hand studies and that relative I mentioned who is all about the fucking vitae ranting on and on about the bonds.
>Which do you think is freakier, guys, this resistance, or being intentionally blood bond to your childe?
Oh, easily the latter. The former is just a quirk of the curse, the latter is most probably some sort of fetish, or a bit of masochistic penance. Definitely freaky.

Just joined a necromunda campaign and looking for some advice about initial upgrades/purchases

I've got a venators list with:
Leader (ranged, wyrd)
2 beastman champs with frenzon collars
4 gangers with grenade launcher, combat shotgun, 2 lasguns

What are some decent territories and purchases to aim for as an opener - I've heard settlement and anything that lets me buy gear at discounted prices is good.

I'm thinking that priority will be getting armour (at least mesh+/-undersuit) is the first thing. After that, gangers with boltguns and stuff e.g. grapnels, heavy weapons.

Thoughts?

Also, are there any decent ways to bump armour saves for cheap. Ceramite shields seems good but will probably need a grapnel launcher to offset the speed issues.

ceramite shield ain't cheap. If you need more armor buy ablative overlay.

1. You need more bodies not to get ruined by a bad bottle roll. At least 9-10.
2. Frenzon collars are busted as hell unless you houserule them to at least need "frenzon charges" after each use.
3. That's my personal autism, but I think that grapnel launchers used to travel purely horizontally, on ground level, are kinda silly, but you do you.

4. Ablative overlay are EXTREMELY gay and should be banned. Not only they are extra bookkeeping, they are also a no-brain purchase.

And after some highlighting. Still learning how to blend and highlight but I think overall the colors work well with each other. The brass is warm enough that the grey base I plan on using ( to simulate an underground environment ) probably won’t make the overall tone too cold.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

i do. Also Pharaoh and Ravenloft are First Decade OSR D&D
>>97218223
2e is OSR though. You just dont like that it has rules you disagree with.

Something about taxation is theft. I don't remember the details but a really negative responce to a fairly basic part of the game like 1:1 time.
>>
>>97207832
That's it?
Those are far less taxing than AD&D poindexters make it out to be. It's negligible even. OD&D has higher upkeep and even that is easy to afford. ACKS characters will be collecting taxes at a certain point and will have no problems affording their upkeep when it starts to ramp up.

I think I remember something about taxing dungeon loot directly.
Not upkeep cost but local lord smells the gold and pops in to take his tenth (or more) because the dungeon is on land he claims to own.
