Getting some OSL practice in
I'm drawn to the 18th and early 19th centuries, a time of dramatic change: the Age of Enlightenment, the Age of Exploration and Discovery, Revolutions, and the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. But how different would an RPG set in this era need to be? What would be the typical campaign? Grand Expedition? Court of Daggers? Revolution? Piracy? Secret Societies? Swashbuckling?
>>96470372While tailored a little more towards the 17th Century, Honor & Intrigue works for everything from the Elizabethan Age to the Napoleonic Wars. Everything you want is there. Plus, it comes with several different variants on dice mechanics. It's a fun period sandbox for the GM and players alike.
>>96470372Literally all of those work fine in Honor + Intrigue. Grab the Tome of Intriguing Options too.
>>96470372>Age of Enlightenment, the Age of Exploration and Discovery>swashbuckling>piracyThe height of none of that was the 18th and 19th centuries, you retard. How do you not know shit about a period you're so drawn to?

>>96479677>>96479755Alright, thanks. No need for citybuilding advice, done that plenty times already myself and I have a solid idea for what I want
I took a look at the new Curseborne Primal revision. The original rules for them all but killed my interest in the game. You had a chunk of fera who all had the same crinos, and the crinos was less interesting than glabro. Now everyone gets a generic list of 6 traits, and another from their family, and you pick 2 from each. There is also a soft rage mechanicAll get these, and enhancement is extra successes when you roll at least 1, and tricks are stunts you can spend extras on>+1 Enhancement that stacks on all physical actions>+1 Enc. that stacks on all influence actions relating to intimidation>+1 Enc. that stacks to defensive actions>Regenerate 1 injury at the end of the round, unless it came from an attack using the Magical tag or spells>Any of the four above shifts applied a second time>Distraction is also an Influence TrickAs an example the spider/insects get this list>Establish Grapple is also a Ranged Combat Trick>1 natural armor (Padded ×1, Spiked)>Unarmed attacks have the Elemental Attunement: Darkness and Poisoned tags>Vision is unimpeded in the Darkness area effectComment too long. The Stormlight books were released a couple weeks ago, what does /tg/ think of the game so far?
>>96478619It says singers don't impose gender binaries as much. I'm not sure how you're getting from that to "humans have no sexual dimorphism". Sexual dimorphism isn't even mentioned in that passage at all.
>>96478625What's funny is that Sanderson in all of his shit has gender roles as typically being "men should act like men and women should act like women". Scadriel has women being expected to be feminine even if they are warriors, while Roshar wants them to conform to the traditions of their culture. Individuals are definitely a bit all over the place in how they interact with it, but not in a way I'd describe as WOKE, and I'd wager the warning is actually there because of all the weird gender role nonsense that's in the book that doesn't even exist in our reality, like safehands and shit. Anon just seems like they're jumping at shadows.
>>96478810Why's that funny? That's just how it works.
>>96478619Anon, you're just having over a crashout over a term you haven't looked up the definition of. Like, no shit genders differ in more ways than purely surface-level biology, but there is a difference between those differences existing independently and society dictating what those differences should be.Gender Binaries isn't "men tend to like X/women tend to like Y", it's "men should like X/women should like Y, otherwise you're unmanly/unwomanly".
>>96479555Oh, I just thought it was funny that the series is much more traditional than the anon seemed to think.

>>96475280Its been possible for a long time but its ultimately no big deal because its like some turn 4 play when the reality of the game is, practically all rears these days come onto the field instigating a draw or a top check. Which game is currently in a worse state?
>>96475265Over the past decade or so, the game of 40k has gone through several editions intended to simplify and streamline the dense and complex ruleset required to accommodate so many and such wildly varied factions as the game has (how well they've done is up for debate, but that's the goal). This has been wildly successful commercially, with the game being more popular than ever, and lots of new blood being brought in, but has also lead to deeply entrenched grogs grumbling about the good old days along with a massively larger competitive scene that GW caters quite a bit too, with frequent (currently every three months) rules updates based on tournament results and player feedback (mainly coming from the tournament players).
>>96478184They probably thought it'd be too much effort to make double versions of all the cards, since then they'd need twice the art and make sure the flavor fits and all that. Now they're forced to do that anyway with the spider-man set.
>>96478867seems cumbersome to keep track of but yeah making new additions every year is prone to get some powercreep issues eventually and banning a unit seems like the worst solution.that being said even magic has had some rules changes of all things when bans are not enough and warp the game so much they have to either nerf a whole mechanic or change it for god knows what reason. shit sucks over here in that regard too so if that is the only negative, magic wins the shittyness award out of the two

>>96479727>Dimension Zero is the game he's talking about, I think.Loosely knowing the rules and history of D0, I don't think it's the game he's talking about. There isn't any obvious 'do nothing' strategy unless its a specific win card and most reports I've seen had it critically lauded. Its failure was chalked up to the interaction complexity of the game putting people off (just about everything had flash, for starters). The designer made Fairy Tale before D0, and took the lessons from D0 to make Vanguard, so I don't think Ikeda is talking about Nakamura either. You might be onto something by looking into Broccoli though. They did have a fair few other card games.
>>96474143>UAnonsI laughed. No one plays that game here

Only a combination of their two styles could pose a threat to him. Also remember how his description says that even he himself hadn't reached the full potential of his style. Aspergers will never understand the nuance of imaginative play. They literally only understand literal instructions. They are incapable of imagining anything. This is why they sperg over anything that deviates slightly from whatever their autistic thing is.
>>96401003default initiative just slows down the game and is bad for player engagement. My players just forget to plan their turns until I say their name, but forcing fast/slow turns from SotDL gets them more engaged without much thinking involved. It just goes like >player fast phase>enemy fast phase>player slow phase>enemy slow phase"fast" phase you either take a move action or perform another action, but not both. "slow" lets you do both like a standard turn. Mostly what happens is players who don't need to move will go in the fast phase, then enemies who don't need to move will attack, then players who need to move will take a standard turn, then any enemies left will move and attack. The biggest benefit is you start a round asking "who wants to go fast" and it forces players to think of what they're going to do ahead of time, because the entire round feels like their "turn". Martials can roll while the wizard thumbs through his spells, and players can move in an order that benefits cooperation.
>>96471537Roll a Basic Attack but if it beats the enemy's let's say Reflex, the enemy is blinded and is fighting with an -4 to attack rolls until his next turn. He will of course will need a free hand, but dropping an object or weapon is a free action so it's gucci if they're full.
