You can always try the old adventures in dark sun if you feel like it. And slavery is never just a one time thing under the burning glare of the dark sun. As long as the sorcerer kings rule there city's nobody is truly free even if they do not live in bondage.

The sorcerer kings love to run near constant slave raids in there own city's whenever they have a new idea pop into there heads and it needs tons of free labor to complete. New, bigger, grander temples to themselves and there own egos need to come from somewhere after all. So why not from the broken bodies and souls of massive temporary work forces you can whip into line from your own citizens. You can after all be dragged into and dumped out of slavery many times in your life. As soon as yu are done with whatever pet project your sorcerer king wanted done he will most likely just have you dumped back onto the streets where he does not need to feed, water, or keep you caged anymore.

Afterall the lifeless sands of the endless wastes are more than enough to keep you trapped behind his city's walls and under his control.

We've been running a Palladium Fantasy Dark Sun campaign for awhile now, and it's pretty fun setting. Our DM has gone above and beyond and basically has a little compendium of each city state with hooks, so we're focusing on creating a little roving trade caravan/mercenary group. Raam is full of all sorts of conspiracies and strife between revolutionaries, infighting between guilds and nobles, and secret police. Our start was as slaves in the Draj arena that won our freedom, so that might be a good start for you.

So I'm making my setting for my Beyond the Wall game, and I'm just curious what do you guys use for inspiration. Myself, lots of Conan, Tolkien (not dunedain, rohirim, the orcs) Dominion 6 (my principal inspiration at the moment), lots of real world folklore, tales and stuff (like the Narts, Spanish folklore, Tibetan bon) and this or that stuff of different books (I love tribal stuff and making tribes inspired in different stuff, like I have a tribe of skinners than wear the pels of the Tribe of the wolf,wich are locked in cosntant war in the not-siberia).
But what about you guys, what are you using? Anyone has a good recomendation for tribal stuff, or resources to make a city-state/tribe/village adventures?

Have the dragon maim the manticore in some way so that even if they heal it it won't be physically able anymore. Unless they have the power to restore lost limbs it is basically a cripple that would lose in a fight to much less threatening creatures if simply healed and left to its own devices again. Hell, you could even play it as the manticore having lost its will to continue the fight after getting so thoroughly trounced even if it survives.
This could prompt them to go on a quest to restore the manticore if they deem it important or they could choose to let the manticore pass and avenge it. Even if they were to fully heal the manticore, the shame of being defeated twice and seemingly being unable to ever defeat the dragon could shatter its pride, maybe even more so if it had to rely on the charity of the party to survive. It seems honorable enough for believing in settling debts with strangers, so you could play up that angle if you really want to have a moment.

Something people forget about tracking is that the DM wants to make it as easy as possible for you to find what he wants you to find. If he created a dungeon or encounter for you, he wants you to find it, and rather than risk you not finding it he will probably just have an NPC tell you exactly where it is so you can get there without issue. You could argue that maybe time constraints come into play and traveling through the wilderness for longer because you don't have a ranger has consequences, but at that point you're just perpetually punishing the party for not having a ranger and I don't think anyone will enjoy it.

The comics are responsible for having a hand in this cock-up. It turns out that Toph is not a great teacher (though we already knew that), so instead of teaching metalbenders the long way around like she did by teaching them how to sense metal impurities, she just went around with her meteor metal and recruited people any time she felt someone do something that happened to make it react a little. Dungeon World, as its name suggests, is an incredibly shit implementation of PbtA. PbtA is good at player-driven stories with potential intra-group conflict, not dungeon diving with a party. Case in point. Never played or looked at the ATLA RPG, but this is a very basic part of the Apocalypse World structure: on a miss, make as hard and direct a move as you like. In AW, there's a list of MC moves:

• Put someone in a spot.
• Trade harm for harm (as established).
• Announce off-screen badness.
• Announce future badness.
• Inflict harm (as established).
• Take away their stuff.
• Make them buy.

>Reveal a hidden truth
>Shift their balance
>Twist loyalties with tempting offers

>Offer a risky or costly opportunity
>Threaten someone
>Shift the odds, suddenly
>Exploit a weakness in their history
>Provide wisdom in unlikely places
>Turn a move back on them
And in addition to this, each different era that you can play in comes with a page that discusses the themes of that time period, and provides additional GM moves that are thematically appropriate to the progress and struggles of those times.

Well, with that setup you do run into physical limitations. The alchemical process from MoM spits out mana in crystal form, and while I imagine you can simply absorb the crystals to fill your mana pool that pool's size doesn't change. Moreover it's one mana point per crystal so you'll quickly hit a limit on how much you can carry. You'd be better off just making or buying Diablo mana potions.

So I've begun replaying Breath of the wild for potential inspiration for the journey. And I'm experiencing the small joy a bit of realizing I can just write whatever that can spring in my imagination with some work. So have a mini scene.

"So how does that look to you?" The rambling voice of the shopkeeper asks.
"Well...it seems fines to me. I'm not really a fashion guru though."
Venti looks in the mirror. Raising a arm out from the new cloak he was considering. He was long overdue for getting new clothes that actually fit him. Most of his old ones were thread bare things now from use with the ends cut to fit him, and Midna had insisted he get new clothes while they were preparing for their journey.
"Is this too nice to wear on the road?" He wonders out loud looking at the clothes he was considering.

"No no! Of course not, I wouldn't be selling it if it was. This isn't some nobles shop dear."
The Seamstress tuts shaking her head. "
It should be just fine but even if it does look nice that's a bonus. You have to look your best if you want to apply for the sect after all." The shopkeeper says from behind the counter.

"I don't think there's much you can do traveler but sure, but I appreciate the thought. It'll be 500 rupees for all the clothes you've picked out."

NGL I like Setites as merchants/tempters Assmites as hitmen, and Gio/Capps as necromancers since I feel they have a place in the setting. I laugh whenever I read of Set dabbing on Bastet/Osiris/Silent Striders, Ur Shulgi declaring half his clan heretics and saying fuck the Tremere, or Giovanni pissing off yet another necromancy bloodline.


But I have no idea why the fuck Ravnos exist. I can't name a single interesting thing they've done in lore besides getting slaughtered by their Ante. Gangrel should be allowed much better and more thematic rivals besides muh gypsies and pajeets.

Why do Setites or Assamites need to be so large to do these things though? I suppose I should clarify, I'm not opposed to them still having Antediluvians. When I say Bloodline I mean in terms of size. Their presence within a city is not guaranteed, even in areas they are more associated with. If you want to use them, you can, but their inclusion should not be expected, nor in particularly large numbers.

There's an author problem where sometimes (and the assamites are by far the worst offender here) because they're technically clans they must be treated as having relevance and power on rough par with the other clans, which is a big problem since it forces specialists into a role too broad for them to handle.
