Why do traditional games seem to attract the most socially undesirable people? Not trolling, I seriously would like to get to the bottom of this. I don't get it, tabletop games are social in nature so why do they attract anti-social weirdos, you expect these types to stay at home and video game. Why are some games MUCH worse that other when it comes to players, ie. Warhammer 40k is worse than historical Wargames, compared MtG to Chess, etc. Is there an explanation for this phenomenon?
>>96490501yes, this is the end game of being groomed by /pol/, and it's bad for being able to exist and function in the world. thanks for demonstrating.
>>96491728>Send me back 20 years in time and I have the tools to become an absolute Gigachad. You have them right now, but you won't.I don't know where this idea comes from, that the issue that keeps you from self-actualization is lack of knowledge on some secret to success. You're fat because you're lazy, you don't have friends because you're too socially anxious to talk to people, and you're poor because you're too dumb and/or lazy to get a college degree in a well-compensated field.
>>96486188No idea. Most people I meet who do the hobby I don't really connect with, I tend to play with friends and family.A lot of the guys I have met in the hobby are just too ill mannered for me to ever have in my house for a game. And I would probably not play a game with someone I would not have over. Stinky, weird, too political, impolite, ultra competitive, disrespectful of my property or family, you will not get a second chance. Ever.
>>96490501>Modern Western Society is a bit like Holy Roman Empire.Reminder that Voltaire was a militant Atheist and the gut worm of kings. The existence of a large, strictly Christian territory without any assholes large enough for him to take residence in naturally horrified him.
>>96486188I think if you're a high-functioning nerd, you have a mask on at work etc that's pretty exhausting to maintain. You need to pencil in a certain amount of time with other nerds because the normies will crush you with their banality. A guy at my work ribs me about using a word he didn't know months ago like it's the funniest thing he'd ever experienced. So you have a certain amount of time when you can be yourself and chat about history or Asian horror movies or whatever and while you enjoy the game, you're aware it's a vector for socializing. And then you have low-functioning nerds who are NEETs etc but have realized they have social needs(the more hardcore autists won't get past playing vidya on their own) and want to be around the high-functioning nerds. The autism brain goes all in on Warhammer or whatever and they play extremely competitively because it's probably the one thing they're good at. I think the most successful games are the ones that have allowed these two groups to work in harmony. Like how old 40K tournaments had painting/sportsmanship prizes or how RPGs have a mix of combat and roleplaying/acting.

>>96485012I agree. We have to keep in mind that everything about 40k, the lore, the rules, the culture, etc is designed only to promote the purchase and use of the current range of figures. As it's difficult to make rules that cover the current figure range, with it's nine foot tall space marines, dreadnoughts, winged demons and tyranids, vehicles and huge 'heros' balancing on tactical rock piles, GW just doesnt bother with decent rules for fighting inside buildings. This may be why most 40k players just don't bother either and mostly stick with the occasional solid terrain display pieces and L shaped cardboard.
>>96485173They would look ok with a bit of paint. Maybe glue them to lollypop sticks and add random bits of foliage and earth piled up against them (using wood filler), add random extra rows to each long one to break up the straight lines a bit? Walls tend to be built straight, with nature making them more 'organic' over time.

What do people typically do for demo games? 3v3 line troops? Do you do a follow-up game where you include a model with special rules? Do you leave out extra rules like fireteams and lieutenants? Need to get a scene kickstarted in my area so I’ve gotta work out how to do this

Alright TG since its been a while and I haven't seen a thread on this but lets have a good old traditional fantasy and Wi-Fi art thread. Post some classic or old pieces of settings art to share.
Is classic a style (group of styles), an age, or just a "feels lie it fits"?

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>96080428Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: https://pastebin.com/JNnj79S5 (embed)https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generatorDiscord: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TThread questions:>Do you refer to "generic" materials like pic related, trope lists, etc, to derive inspiration, either by borrowing or intentionally eschewing them?
I have people living in space colonies near a gas giant and I had the idea of them weaponizing the hydrogen they collect off it with giant tanker mines, but how actually do you weaponize that in space, since explosives work quite differently with no atmosphere
>>96489985Just regular old thermonuclear warheads. Big bursts of radiation are still deadly. You can shape your charges too if you want, so consider that to get that sweet sweet Casaba-Howitzer action (nuclear spears). You need more ingredients than that, but at least those are sometimes called H-bombs so you have that. Otherwise, use the hydrogen as reaction mass for kinetic weapons.

>>96483821Females have a minimum size they must be in order to successfully give birth or lay eggs (for egg-laying species this is particularly important, since the calcium for the eggshells comes from the female's bones. The larger the female, the larger the bone mass, and more calcium can be leached off without causing osteoporosis). So for males to be bigger you usually need a specific reason for it to be so. Usually it's either that the males compete for mates or have harems of females that they protect (or both at the same time), in which case being bigger provides an advantage. In most species the male is larger, it's for that reason. Though there's some exceptions. A bunch of snakes have males that are larger than females seemingly for no reason (likely just some random evolutionary quirk that has no reason to be selected against because it's not like it's negative affecting them), though usually in those cases the size difference is small.

>>96386261>Not enough bronze age settings.Have you considered Runequest?
>>96386860>>96457161A few cool things about Ancient Egypt, specifically, in contrast to other "bronze age" states or the stereotype:- The Nile's overwhelming importance. The terrain of Egypt is not "deserts and oases," it's basically a giant line that creates a 1 dimensional country.- Until 1960, the Nile would regularly flood every single year, slowly washing away any buildings. Bad for archaeologists, but a cool and unique thing you don't see elsewhere.- Egypt was, in fact, not always politically unified, nor was it an ethnic monoculture; the Hyksos (probably Canaanite settlers) took over north Egypt, at the same time the Kushites were pushing up from the south, and probably they formed an alliance to buttfuck them- Chariots. Horses hadn't gotten big enough to ride them to war yet, is my understanding.- They quite often had pet monkeys.- They thought basically every animal was sacred to some god or another. While the Greeks no doubt exaggerated this in some of their accounts, it was a real tendency. Crocodile cults were more common in rural Egypt, though they were found mummified in Thebes and the city the Greeks called Crocodilopolis.
