Having numbered tokens, where you deploy a sufficient amount of them to realistic ambush positions that the other side cannot know for certain where the ambush actually is. For deployment, either a blind for the setup, a drawn preliminary deployment on paper, or half-hidden units like the cards in Blucher where you see that units are deployed there, but you don't know what those units are.

anon, its tong-in-cheek

Anyways, It is no lie to say that for most of the 100 years war outside of the very end, Enngland had a long record of stunning victories against numerically superior forces. SO That's what im referring too.

Also, broadly speaking, England has had a pretty good win ratio against france. Outside of Norman, Sun king, and Napoleon, they tended to do well. Most of 100 years war, 7 years war, End of Napoleonic. Seems pretty even 2 me. Especially given the man power disparity through much of that.

Okay by why though. Is it because of endless zealot? They're almost double the cost of landskecht arquebussiers but shoot worse and have worse stamina.

The thread to talk about Super Heroes/Villains/Spies/Agents/Rogues be it in spandex or not.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

>Masks (PbtA)
Rules light game with focus on narrative. Less rules reading more making stuff up on the moment. Game is built on the concept of playing as young heroes but you can use it for more mature settings.

>He's robbing banks so he can buy more chemicals off the black market so he can make more fear gas.
Okay, but how does Scarecrow, or other mad scientist villains, get the materials and equipment they need, especially if they want to avoid the notice of the heroes and/or law enforcement? Not to mention if they're trying to avoid doing shit like robbing banks in public to avoid attention for something big.

What I said above.

How do drug cartels get their grubby mitts on the guns, lab equipment to cook meth with, and other stuff?
The answer is relatively simple — intermediaries. Everything from gun runners to "doctors without morals".
Any capable villain usually attracts a swarm of various fixers, logistic specialists, and even street gangs.

You're thinking too reductively. Villains don't exist in a vacuum.
Rather, they find or create a niche for themselves within the criminal "ecosystem".
Like any other ecosystem, it needs someone filling every level of it to remain stable.
From street gang plankton, and all the way to the apex predators — the supervillains.

Sorry anon, that's a nice argument, but I've unfortunately mind controlled you into not just only bringing it in games where I have a WS7 character (ignore the fact that's literally 1-3 models in my entire army), but also into only running straight for said models in all cases despite the fact that you have super efficient tarpit models that are 10 points per T5 5++ would and also into forgetting the fact that daemons can just take ignore challenges and take D3 wounds instead if they want to barring the hierarch.

Talk about your pointy ears characters, elfish campaigns and /tg/ projects of noble spirit and fine craftsmanship.

Yes, lots of times. In fact in most of my games that's something the character tries to do because that would be in character for them. Though obviously it depends on the setting and character. L5R, ACKS, Bodil's Gap almost certainly. Shadowrun, not so much.

I once played a battlesmith artificer with a steel defender refluffed as an autistic robot girl that all the other party members first assumed he was using for sex.
They dropped the assumptions after seeing how he treated her more like a sidekick/protege/sibling. Totally platonic.
In terms of personality, my guy is basically don quixote with magitek autism. He is obsessed with everything relating to knights, chivalry, dragons, and everything magitek.
Soon enough, the party started shipping him with a sentient magitek ghost ship that finds his antics endlessly frustrating, and a dragon girl rune knight from 500 years ago who the party unfroze from cryosleep during a raid on a cultist base.

Yes, it was 1974 and nobody had ever made an RPG before. However, it had an actual design goal, intended gameplay loop, and play experience.

And it was fucking atrocious. Even the handful of people who helped make it realized this. That is why we got Basic and Advanced lines, anon - the game sucked. And even then, both of those lines were horseshit because they were so scattershot in so many ways. It's why 3e "felt" good when it launched because it somewhat attempted to fix those issues but was again riddled with "well, what if we took X and made it do Y" bullshit and had layers upon layers of tedium (cross-skill bonuses for instance, or how to do grapple mechanics). 4e decided enough was enough and focused on what worked and took the literal decades of fan commentary from mail, forums, and fansites to make the game people had been claiming they wanted
>Fighters can do more than just swing a weapon
>No one needed to be the mandatory cleric because every character could heal out of combat and healing potions were affordable

in a funky Only war game set in the great crusade after the the daemon inside the daemon weapon My guy pocketed escaped by possessing another player who tried looting the weaponsaid other PC died somewhat shortly after when the party got lost in a underhive
the now daemon evacuated weapon was restatted as slightly less powerful version of the blood letter sword from Black crusade but instead of getting plus 2 damage from every kill made with it in a combat it instead only got that plus 2 from killing warp entities and psykers, my character realizing the spooky voice in the sword that had fled him out of what he he believed to be cowardice vowed to put it back and since all daemons looked the same to him, it was brought out specifically against the daemonic.
and boy when the DM had a boss fight where said boss had like 50 or so furies as chaff/minions to absorb rotary gun and tankshells for said boss I knew it was time to for just a moment stop pretending to be lawbringer from for honor and start pretending to be vergil.
also gave me a strange appreciation for the fury mostly in total war

Why are some people so afraid to run games?
I bought a beginners box for Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, on a whim when I was visiting a comic shop around 2012 or 2013 and had my first ttrpg Experience the following weekend as a GM.
Since then, my players and I had a great time and most of them started running games on their own.
So why the fuck do I see so many idiots online, mystifying the job of a GM? It should be easier than ever to run games today (yes even online three out of four games are totally fine, if you filter out the obvious morons).

>the comic seems to be more about self-sabatogers who complain about never getting the chance to do things but then squandering them from lack of effort, because excusing it as “nobody will give m the chance” is easier.
He doesn't say that nobody ever gave him the chance. He says he doesn't know how.
It seems to lampoon both on my opinion because that woman gets irate pretty quickly.

I'll think about why she bothers me more than him. I think it's because Howie is completely aware of his own ignorance whereas she is certain of her ability to help him, fails, and yet directs all of her frustration on him despite the entire situation being created by her and her desire to make him feel better.

I'm actually reminded of (I think) an Upright Citizens Brigade but where a child could only say the words "shut up" and said with youthful vigor and enthusiasm. And even his mother and doctors who understood the situation would eventually lose their cool at a kid getting in their face and telling them to shut up after everything they said. It wears on you. I recently experienced something nearly identical where someone close to me with encephalopathy could only repeat "....what?" as they actively resisted my every attempt to help them and had brought attack on themselves through their own actions. I lost my cool just like the woman.
>>
>>96477040
Actually, if I remember correctly, that "Howie" comic might have been inspired by some anon that's always hanging around the /ic/ and /adv/ boards, forever asking people "how to draw" and lamenting that he'll never become a world famous artist or "be allowed to express his creativity" while also admitting he can't make time/is too busy to dedicate time to practice drawing. And almost all the advice he's given is usually rebutted with the question "but how do I do that?", whether it's learning a specific style, finding the motivation/time to practice, or even just how to learn how other people draw.

It reminds me a lot of a constant debate point between pro-ai artists and anti-ai people, where the former argues "I need AI because I don't know how to draw" and the most common rejoinder is "Pick up a pencil". And neither side comes to any clearer an understanding because while just literally picking up a pencil and plugging away at drawing IS technically one of the most important steps to being an artist, the former usually seems to be conveying "I don't know how to draw like a professional" which is a far more involved process that may not even guarantee them the results they want. So both sides remain near eternally dead-locked over it.

>Good GMs also have strong social skills, they are eloquent, and they are quick-witted. You can run a session without these traits, but it will remain a session (singular) because the players will not want to continue. One small example from years ago: I joined a one-shot where the GM suffered from constant vocalized speech pauses ("Uhhh, "Ermm", "Eehhh, "Huhh") and it drove me nuts.
This, more than anything, is why I can't GM. I have negative ability to enthrall people and I have the adaptability of a brick on a slope.
>>
>>96477482
I can totally imagine that. I've seen anons like that. Especially on /adv/.
It's just that the comic itself is more mixed and measured than one entirely directed against Howie would be. So, it's generous if that's true.
>>
>>96471203
In my experience it's a combination of laziness, not taking responsibility for their own anxiety, and lacking the skills to properly break things down into sections to learn and build on. A lot of them are straight up liars who don't really want to play a TTRPG, they want people to suck their dick about how awesome their OCs are and how unique their world building is, but see TTRPGs as an easy way to get their super amazing novel written cause otherwise they'd have to struggle and focus and take critique to develop skills as a writer.

• PLEASE BUMP THE THREAD IF IT REACHES PAGE 10!

>Requesters:
• Provide good, detailed references (pictures are better than verbal descriptions), so the artists know what you're looking for.
• If you have a WIP quote the Anchor Post, and attach the WIP so your Drawfag can find you.
• Do not reply to other deliveries with a request that the artist fill your request next. This is called 'piggybacking'.
• Do not make multiple requests in the same thread and do not serially request multiple characters after a delivery. Suggesting several concepts for artists to choose from counts as making multiple requests.
• If you're unsatisfied with your completed request, please wait at least one week before you re-request. If someone follows this rule, don't waste posts by complaining about it.
• No furries allowed.
• Stay on topic.

>Drawfags and Drawfags-to-be:
• Drop your tumblrs/websites/commission/etc information, but if you're dropping your commission info, please consider filling a request beforehand instead of just advertising.
• Please keep AI deliveries to the /slop/ threads. This is a thread for human-made art.
