Man, why the fuck is /40kg/ such an unmitigated cancer? Why even?
>>96499155>>96499200>>96499205Look, I was just tryna talk about my HH IW wip conversions when someone asked what they'd be used for. Blame the other guy for going all reddit
>>96499225Based and redpilled.
>>96499215It's the most popular wargame so obviously it attracts the biggest assholes in the hobby. /40kg/ is filled with secondaries, literal schizo shitposters and tourists, barely anyone talks about the actual game. It's usually autistic arguments about lore, shitposting meltdowns and occasional modelposting. It's actually unbearable most of the time. At least it acts as a containment for the worst posters on this board, I guess.
>>96499215>>96499292BASED.
The spicier the better. I'll start to get the ball rolling: MTG, DnD and Warhammer are actually good for the hobby. They get new people started in this hobby and they keep the trend chasers contained and away from the rest of the hobby.Appealing to the normie masses is a necessary evil in order to keep what you love afloat. Even if it comes with the negative baggage of doing so.Generals are good for /tg/.
>>96498003How is op wrong on each point? I agree the generals being good for tg because we’d be swamped with way too many 40k slide threads without the general. Even if /40kg/ is a mess.
>>96497623>"Look mate, this is going on probably longer than you are alive, so let's just skip it, k?">"HA! INTERNET VICTORY! And time saved, I guess?"... I'm still satisfied with the final outcome, too, if that helps you. This bullshit is really, really tiresome and the end result is always the same - getting even more tired with it, and then a few more years passing and you, too, realising it's a tiresome bullshit, but then it's too late to come back to the discussion that was pointless in the first place. The bottom line is, however, always the same: WotC opened a floodgate with 3.X by actively targeting with their marketing the most dysfunctional, autistic and retarded people imaginable, and then, since 3.X drones quickly became the biggest, most concentrated group in the whole hobby (friendly historical reminder D&D was virtually dead prior 3.0 and wasn't even in top five most popular games), tho got it into their heads that they should now gatekeep from evil outsiders. And the only outsiders were them themselves, but oh well. To put it into zoomer-friendly terms: we've got culturally enriched by 3.X crowd, and late 00s and most of the 10s was them chimping out and a whole lot of newfags coming in the middle of it and trying to fit in, parroting their idiotic bullshit. So every time I see this >>96488817 picture posted, I just chuckle about the irony of it, but then I know it's going to be 3d4+1 asshats thinking this is true. But arguing about it is utterly pointless, since it's a fake argument, ironically made by people that are the disruptive assholes they want to gatekeep from. Add to this /tg/'s contrarianism, and here we are
>>96498020>All this bullshitSo from which board did you crawled from, never-game?
>>96498121>t. played a few times and actually liked it, but too mind broken by being terminally online to admit to enjoying things, or else someone could call him cringeI'm still glad you are coming to terms with your situation, mate. And I'm being 100% serious
>>96499034He's got some points there. There are for some reason players who insist on minis and having "character arcs" and writing session reports and those things are either unnecessary or just so TEDIOUSI have no idea why you would want your beer and pretzels elfgame to feel like a day at the office
You know what time it is, post kino wh40k/AoS pics and games that just make you want to get down to the LGS and PLAY!
>>96467515Play 4th.Play imperial armour scenario campaigns.
>>96489864Damn. You're a blessing for making such a list, anon. Now what's the best way to get people to try alternative games to GW games after making both opposing forces for said wargame?
>>96494387>best wayi forget the saying but finding the right opponents is like half the battle in wargaming. even if you're playing GW which has a lot you want these people to be fun to play against, buddies if you will.finding/building a community is difficult, people are a herd so it pays to have some like minded people to start with. fucking my local crew started with like 10 people playing one game then hit like 40.also it pays to put extra work in, if you can show a lot of passion it will draw the eye and help you stand out.But fastest way is to have social skills and consider your environment.if you're in a more urban place with a lot of artists you could have a conversion heavy game take off if it doesn't already existhunt down local communities first.if you're literally the only person, then generally have a friend who wants to play it first, people are most interested that ways. they can come by, see you having fun and want to join in.another method is setting up a group for it, via the messaging App of your choice, set up a demo gram with your LGS (or join a club)my local sore has a lot of AWG players, we've got people playing Saga, bolt action, forbidden psalm, and a bunch of smaller things.there's a lot of people, i've met many of the people who play epic in my city whilst playing other games.i always suggest skirmish first, it's lower effort, lower commitment and allows people to engage in self expression first but it really depends on where you live.
>>96497498Personally finding people is not the hard part.Wrangling the dopamine fucked twats is the hard part.At least in my country we have encounter the constant issue that people simply won't show up to the events/games
>go to a local tournament to play some mesbg>stellar tables packed to the brim with color and detail, and since the game is designed to work with dense terrain it doesnt interfere>on break go look at other tables>old world is just flat mats with maybe a single terrain piece on the entire map>infinity is a mess of unpainted mdf kits>40kek is just literal cardboard L shapes>only historicals (I think it was flames of war or bolt action) have tables that look impressive>even blood bowl tables had more effort in their scenery than 40cucks AoS and 40k piggies are just astonishing. At least old world sloppa has the excuse of rank&flank not working with dense terrain.
Seems like a fairly promising Japanese system that came out recently. There's a full unofficial fan translation, but you can only get access if you buy a copy and prove to the translator that you did, and the only places that sell it digitally use their own DRM readers for it.Does anyone have any experience with the system?
>>96498860>and the only places that sell it digitally use their own DRM readers for it.Japanese corpos are so retarded lmao.
>>96498860I appreciate the sheer effort to make people avoid piracy by hating the translator and everything associated with him, but it's not gonna work.
>>96498860My only experience with it is its retarded nonsense name.
>>96498860https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WXOoFh1yPg4VKtrDNepQI4OUqdpKWv9h/viewTake on the role of a Maverick, someone who stands firm to their beliefs and stands up for the little guy, in this magically-fueled dystopia. The system uses an ingenious "black jack" style d20 for resolving Tests, and often times you'll even be rolling a pool of them depending on status effects or skills. The game also requires a couple decks of playing cards, which represent the Aur (intangible magical radiation focused into your body) and Aurite (crystalized Aur) your character may use to power spells and ma-gear effects. There are a good deal of auxiliary systems too, such as Leisure Time (downtime between scenarios), item crafting, vehicle rules, simple & map combat rules, environmental effects and status conditions, GM tools for designing sessions and enemies, and a good deal more. The world setting is quite detailed, with various corporate and terrorist factions, and a handful of important NPCs. The game primarily takes place in the Metropolitan Sanctuary Tiphereth, where the majority of humanity is confined after the world-shattering collapse of the Sephiroth Tree 200 years prior. As a result of magic fueling all of society, the Mages of Academia naturally became cemented as the super-elite in control of what remained of civilization. However, beyond its magically-powered super wall, lies the Outland where Aur contamination, natural disasters, and mutants run wild. Take care to stay on top of your Aur tax to avoid being exiled from the sanctuary... Here you might also run into rogue laboratories, raiders, ruins-diving, and other high-risk ventures. You can imagine the many places an adventure could take place!>>96499099It's an "embargo" that will expire Dec. 6th, so make another thread in the future. Just a timed incentive to funnel support to the authors since the book only came out June 20th.
>>96498860>X-card>punklmaoAnyways, I like the aesthetic, but using both a d20 and a deck of cards might get complicated. I'd be interested to hear anyone's experience with the system myself.

Thoughts on the upcoming Starcraft wargame?
>>96495588I'm as big of a starcraft nerd as you probably but i just don't see it >Piratesthat faction is mostly based around airships, only has like 2 units on the ground with reavers and hellbats>chrome guysThat could count as umojans which sure could work out but...>UEDThese are supposed to be the "elite" terrans, better higher tech gear, more trained units. since most airships are not gonna be a thing if they put the UED this is what they give them (plus mind controlled zergling fodder)>Confederacy This could work out as a "starcraft 1 terrans" but apparently goliaths are already in so that's not really needed>War pigsMercenary faction sounds good but if you are going that route just give them to Nova as elite marinesThere's a bunch of options i guess it depends how well it sells and retains attention

I like magic items that summon monsters. Especially when the monsters just show up and aren't magically compelled to obey their summoner. It's a fun mechanic.
>>96497688so, traditional summons like>summon wolf pack>summon grizzly bearwould be standard summoning spells, ofc what i reffered above doesnt come from anywhere in particular if you're asking for source.but you'd also want some kind of spell like>Create Summon Spellthat would let you create a creature of your own liking using templates, like the types of strikes it can do>slashing claws>crushing bite>tentacle grab>magic projectileas well as some kind of major magical effect, a minor magical effect and a exploitable flaw to close it out.
>>96494498It is, but it's Rod of Wonder nonsense rather than a good idea. It's hard to make adding combatants into a sound mechanic, which is one reason D&D has never been able to get summoners or necromancers right.>>96497973I think he means there should be a clear difference between mindless expendable mooks and a foreign entity you are theoretically allied with.
okayput those in your games then
>>96499052Appreciate the sulky attitude!
How do you make religion in a fantasy setting good, interesting, and something players are excited to interact with? So many times it feels lifeless, and then the lore spends pages explaining why none of it matters because the gods will never help the players in any way whatsoever.
>>96495132She liked my dick better, bro. The cope rope calls to you.

>>96175335Oh divine magic clearly exists, that much everyone agrees on. But nobody can fully agree on what it is or where it comes from, since religions that clearly worship different, seemingly contradictory gods can both get clerics. Maybe the power comes from the cleric's faith rather than the gods. Maybe there's something out there giving out divine power to the faithful and dedicated regardless of the specific gods they believe. Maybe there's some higher truth that all the religions share, and the gods are just different aspects of some higher divinity doling out power to anyone who worships one of it's many forms. Maybe clerical magic has absolutely nothing to do with what god is real or not, if any.

Being the "common unimportant adventurer" doing random treasure hunting is fun and all but it never gives me the same hype as being a very special guy with relevant ties to the major events in the setting.
>>96493857The solution is yet again to be found in Tolkien.Even a nobody can get tangled up in the larger machinations of the world. But have some patience My players started out as regulars at a bar for former soldiers They did get tangled up with relevant characters but as pawns at first. Now 6 IRL years later they’re movers and shakers, they fought alongside kings and the pope and their council of respected, they inherit positions of important orders and are tangled up in the world and its inhabitantsNever once were they super special beyond what they made of themselves. And no this is not a super grimdark Mudcore campaign. They just wrote their own high fantasy saga rather than inheriting a role
>>96493857.... ok?>>96493868If that suits you, then fine
>>96494155Two things:1) It's a statblock, and those are always boring as fuck2) It actively incentives players to not give a fuckAnd I can predict with certainty that you are going to bring up some retardation in tune of "b-but muh friegshiet" as a counter, which means you also have a victim complex.A character who exists solely for the sake of placeholder is always going to be boring, and that's the definition of human male fighters. It's the "I don't know, but I want to play" type of deal. And don't worry. People do this shit with other pre-sets, too. I'd actually argue that Gimli Clone #7281 is even worse, because that's someone aware that people are going to eye-roll at their utter lack of effort, so they cover it by making their flat nothing into a flat nothing dwarf.>b-but how does it matterIt means you don't give a fuck. And if you don't give a fuck, why are you playing? It's a suboptimal build in almost every feasible game, so it's not even about muh build autism, it's deliberately flat nothing as a character ("oh, i'm just a guy" - and it usually also means playing a self-insert, too) and it's fucking annoying how bunch of idiots think they are making some sort of political statement or owning some imaginary boogeyman, because they deliberately made flat nothing character.
>>96499146And to continue:I run open tables each Wednesday in the local library. Every time char-gen is part of the today's game (meaning the system is simple and/or non-complex one or char-gen is fast as fuck) and the game is fantasy (no matter how boiler-plate), and people make a human male fighter, I already know what I'm up to:A silent Bob who will spent the next 4-6 hours scrolling on his phone under the table, paying minimal attention to the game, never engaging with the scenario and being also absent-minded during combat. They aren't going to contribute to the group, and they aren't going to engage with the game, either. If they will utter more than 100 words through all that time, it will be some off-topic or a chat during a break. So why even showing up and taking up a slot?

>>96493426Sorry anon, didn't notice this until today.Good GM's are typically fairly comprehensive in their posts. It goes without saying that the more detail the better. Who they're looking for, what the setting is, background. Whatever. It's usually a waste of time to try your luck on someone who could only muster maybe two paragraphs at best.Unless the pitch was very solid I ignored most posts that didn't have a google form. If they rely solely on comments or direct messages the GM is probably going off of a first come first serve basis and it's a big waste of time. Also if there's a form, there's usually even more detail on how things are going to be in it.That's kind of it for me honestly. Since this isn't 5E there's thankfully a lot less trash to sift through because people tend to (but not always) care more about the game and how it's run.It will take time and you still have to be kind of lucky, but I hope you get into a game that's fun for you eventually.
>>96496516While being a system intended to solve the ivory tower design of PF1e, it only makes it worse. About half of the classes are just worse versions of another class, spellcasting as a whole is COMPLETELY fucked on this front (over 90% of spells are completely useless, often in deceptive ways that would trick a newer player into taking them). Skill feats are intended to separate flavour feats from combat power ones but not only fails at that (due to the existence of things like kip up and titan wrestler) but also the rest of them end up being feat taxes for shit that you should just be able to do, like intimidate someone with a menacing glare. There's such a deep obsession with "balance" (which actually just means that certain classes aren't allowed to have fun, because the restraints and limitations of said balance are entirely built around letting two specific classes have fun and making everyone else suffer) that several classes are completely stripped of identity and personality, having to slowly buy back a tiny fraction of the core features they would have had in earlier editions at the cost of their actual effectiveness. Ironically for a system that has kneecapped itself over a balance obsession, it's incredibly imbalanced, and it's much harder to fix that skewed balance than it is to make a curated list of player options in something like 3.5/pf1e.In summary, it fails at almost every single one of its stated design goals. It was an attempt to make a hybrid of D&D 4e and PF1e but somehow manages to inherit only the flaws of each. It's not so bad that I would refuse to play it if one of my friends wanted to run it for the group, but it's a real mess.
>>96498994>spellcasting as a whole is COMPLETELY fuckedOk, buddy.>over 90% of spells are completely uselessOk, buddy.>it's incredibly imbalancedOk, buddy.>because the restraints and limitations of said balance are entirely built around letting two specific classes have funOk, buddy.>In summary, it fails at almost every single one of its stated design goals.Ok, buddy.>It was an attempt to make a hybrid of D&D 4e and PF1e but somehow manages to inherit only the flaws of each.Ok, buddy.
Spell Trickster should have its feats have requirements for traits (and areas) instead of affecting specific spells.Actually just scrap the whole archetype and give a bunch of these to choose as extra feats for casters.

>>96498396As a reminder, 100% of Void Circle necromancy spells are written by Deathlords, 90% of Labyrinth Circle necromancy spells are written by Deathlords and 90% of the rest are written by First Age Solars high on the Great Curse crazy enough to undergo necromantic initiation despite their very comfortable life, with only a very small fraction being written by hekatonkhire, nephwracks, and young First Age Solars who, again, would've been crazy enough to go necromancy despite already having very comfortable lives.Of the shadowlands circle necromancy a large portion is likely going to have been made by the Deathlords, because their is no salinan working equivalent for necromancy. You need direct tutoring and empowerment to get into it, and most of that comes from the established and exceptionally evil great powers of the Underworld who would prefer the power of necromancy be kept firmly under their control, since it's pretty specialized in fucking over and controlling their own forces.Necromancy doesn't need to be fundamentally evil when necromancers have historically been bad enough to explain the spell list's bias.
>>96498462Point is, Necromancy sucks and is boring and gay and lame.
>>96498478You're not wrong, but if someone wants to homebrew spells that make it less one-note and ass I say let them, so long as balance and themes are maintained otherwise.
>>96498506Never said otherwise. I'm all for it in fact.
>>96498396>raise undead...Undead can be utilitarian in application in ways that don't make the world worse - a necromancer could defend a village from bandits using corpses rather than conscripts who'll be killed horribly, zombies can be made to do physical labor to shore up shortages on the living end, and ghosts or other intelligent undead can tutor the living without horrible negative consequences. You won't get that kind of flexibility out of a blood ape.
