Hell, this benefits one of my fluffy lists a bit, but I still think this is a tiny bit wonky.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). >>96603145i think that they layout is too clean and tidy, with the river cutting through being way to straight and of equal width but that is a very typical problem in city mapmaking these days because the very programs used arent good for approximating the incredibly close and meandering architecture of medieval, renaissance and age of sail cities and the different physical features found in them like small hills, rivers etc
>>96601553I don't know why but the farms in the south east and what appears to be a small patch of wood attracted my attention
>>96603670Thank you, perfect. You got two of the spots that are supposed to draw attention. >>96603514Yeahhhhh it's not great. It's a commission that I'm paying for from my doodles (pic related) so I'm gonna tell the artist to actually lose the straight-line banks of the river.
In a medieval/fantasy setting, I was planning on having a nation that had an abundance of metals at their disposal, and were supposed to be higher "tech"/quality compared to the others(even though magic and stuff exists). How effective or capable would an army be if the main weapons of their troops were crossbows instead of swords, maces, etc? I don't want them far enough along that gunpowder weaponry is the standard loadout, so just how viable *are* crossbows? I'm trying to imagine them like a more modern military, but obviously guns, engines, and the like don't exist and its just armored men with crossbows, ballistae on wheels, deployable cover, repeating variants.
>>96605744Crossbows (which in this case were functionally much more similar to bows than later variants) were used heavily in ancient China, but after the advent of not completely shit armor, crossbows fell out of use as a primary weapon of war in favor of bows since ranged warfare became a numbers game. There was also the repeating crossbow which was more of a personal defensive weapon analogous to a derringer since they had crap range and penetration.Later European crossbows were used as a way to offload the cost of training soldiers onto weaponsmiths since they took less skill to use than bows at the cost of being much more resource intensive to produce and maintain and having a lower firing rate. At that point they were mainly a weapon for sieges, instead of open warfare, where you're going to be dealing with emergency forces with less training and a lot of protracted firing from cover to make up for their low firing rate and incentivize their range and accuracy advantage over bows.Magical weaponry enhancements/magic as an alternative makes any analysis I can offer conditional, but to be frank, absent armor being behind the times or magic making them fire faster or shred armor, specializing in crossbows doesn't make much sense. Like maybe you could sell it if it's a wealthy nation especially concerned with national defense, but that would be it.

>>96606152That's a happy ending. Didn't exactly prove you wrong with the reaction there either. What was the initial sign the GM was fucked in the head?
I'm so sick of this one guy in our group. His self-esteem is completely in the gutter, and whenever the dice fuck him over he starts vocally moping about how bad he is in the game. Additionally he's dumb as a sack of bricks and always has the worst understanding of the rules. Similarly if things go his way he starts gloating about how he finally got things done. When he runs games he always undertunes encounters and then mopes about the players being too powerful. And he's the kind of a player who's main interest is in combat and getting things that make his character more powerful, but he's just the worst at it.The other people in the group (who are excellent to play with) don't have nearly as much of a problem with it as I do, and he's one of the founding members though.
I once played a neutral evil ninja in a good aligned group of demon hunters and the DM tolerated me for some reason.

>>96604722Then how many end of turn can i trigger?Like i could do this?>Use Diana inherit to unsuspend>Attack with apollo ace inherit>Attack with Omnimon X
>>96606050
>>96606092Exact number idk? You'd get the first two at least and I think because you're already mid attack you miss the window for Omni X since you'd be at the point where you have to resolve when attacking effects and you can't declare a second attack during an already in progress attack
>>96606096The other one is whatever but this card is fucking ridiculous. I can't believe they're buffing omni.
>>96604665You have to resolve all of your pending end of your turn effects before the attack happens. In the Galaxy example you have 2 pending EoYT effects>1 of your Digimon may attack>1 of your Digimon may unsuspendYou choose the order to use these in.If it Digivolves during your end of your turn attack, and that Digimon has an End of Your Turn (like Omnimon X), that effect wasn't present when your End of Your Turn started, so it doesn't activate. Nyabootmon's -DP is part of the same effect that plays the ShoeShoemon, so it has to resolve completely before ShoeShoemon's On Play. This is also why Apollomon's full effect is "2 of your Digimon may DNA to GraceNovamon. Then 1 of your Digimon may attack." If it weren't the one effect, GraceNovamon evolving during the end of your turn could only attack if it also had Blitz.

I want to get into pathfinder 2eR, and I really like playing wizards, but Vancian casting perplexes me to no end. Is there some sort of strategy guide? Like... How many fireballs am I supposed to prepare? Combat can come at literally any moment - how am I supposed to be prepared for the hundreds of spontaneous 'roll initiative''s?Am I just supposed to load the fuck up on panic spells and fireballs and use spell substitution to cast everything as a pseudo-ritual when needed? How the hell am I supposed to account for this shit without having 9 mega lethals in the chamber just so I'm not the most useless babyboy in the world during any surprise combat? How do I go back in time and kill Jack Vance to stop Gary Gygax from reading Dying Earth and copying the stupidest magic system available?
>>96605545Thank youOn an unrelated note does anyone have a wizard edit of JD Vance for me to print and slap on my spellbook

>>96605539>Vancian casting perplexes me to no endAs you little zoom-zooms say: Skill issue.>Am I just supposed to load the fuck up on panic spells and fireballs and use spell substitution to cast everything as a pseudo-ritual when needed? This has nothing to do with either Vance or Gygax. Vance had nothing to do with RPGs and Gygax left TSR fifteen years before spell substitution was a thing. Blame modern game designers being obtuse about magic-users not being able to "just win">How the hell am I supposed to account for this shit without having 9 mega lethals in the chamber just so I'm not the most useless babyboy in the world during any surprise combat?Welcome to playing a magic-user circa 1973. >>96606109It's kinda funny. During the commission process we were all asked for descriptions of the characters (obviously) along with 1-2 reference images. I believe she was described as dressing "modest and refined". I mean no disrespect to the artist at all when I say this, but that's how I learned that Mexicans have very different notions of modest dress compared to Americans.
>>96606166It did your group a favor I can tell you. The character is sexy in a way that many fan arts of VTM don't get it. Is a sweet spot hard to achieve. >>96602503Yeah that's not surprising. Having more orders is an advantage, there's no arguing against that, but a lot of people like to exaggerate that advantage until it's some sort of unbreakable law that Only 15-Unit Lists Are Worth Building. Actually, a lot of Infinity advice swirling around the internet is like that, inflating small factors into the only thing that matters. "Oh don't take that unit, it has -1 BS compared to a similar unit, and that small difference makes it absolutely useless." "This gun is a trap option, it has two less damage, don't even bother shooting it." "ARM 3? Made of tissue paper, dies to a stiff breeze."Ultimately, a lot of the advice isn't exactly wrong though! Even though a lot of it gets overstated, there are kernels of good advice there: having orders is good, shooty units should shoot good, pick guns that are effective, don't rely on ARM3 units to tank shots, etc. Rather than follow such advice blindly OR discard it wholly, it can be useful to think of it like this: what are you gaining by not taking this advice, or to put it another way, is what you're gaining worth the price you're paying? If you make a 13- or 14-unit list, are you doing this because the units you get to include are worth losing an order or two and this is a conscious decision you've made, or are you just being careless with your listbuilding? Is this gunner's neat gimmick really worth the relative -1 BS to you, or did you just grab it without thinking?
>>96599832In Caledonia i always used between 16 and 18 models, never went beyond 20, even playing 400 points
>>96602503It's more like "if you don't know what you are doing, maximizing orders is usually a good thung to start with". Some guy might start with an action pack and wonder why his 10 guys don't win him games, and in that situation bringing more bodies and orders is the logical first step.
>>96602341This one. F youhttps://youtu.be/qWtjUM8D9c4?feature=shared
But the problem I see with "must have 15 guys" approach is how second group is still limited to 5 orders. Since it's mostly also composed of defensive units (like some remote you park at spot and let it scare off people), someone who would activate at last turn to touch objective or be entirely situational, they don't need much orders anyway. In the end, it's still about main group of 10 people.

>>96606216I made one up in highschool with the concepts of "proper letters" that could only be used at the start of a sentence, a more base tone required to speak it, and the formal language being easier to write but harder to speak and the common language being easy to speak and hard to write. But I wrote it in a notebook and that was over a decade ago. It no longer exists. So whatever the hell they speak in Fantasy.
