Wasn't there a WoD game which was basically: superheroes start appearing at the beginning of the millenium, but it's a grimdark world, so they are very low powered?
Called "Aberrant" or something like that.
>>
>>96722383
Aberrant is neither tied to the WoD nor particularly low-powered; individual characters can be, but the game scales. Aberrant also takes place in the near future.

Having looked into the setting, I would use something flexible, like OVA, Prowlers & Paragons, or Mythic d6. Based on the gameplay I watched, I think something like Fabula Ultima might work.

BTW, someone looking for low-powered supers should check out Dark Times or Watchdogs of Killcade

>>96664055
I agree with B&B. Shoot & Loot should also work. Both games create random weapons and have cover systems. B&B is crunchier, S&L is based loosely on PbtA but isn't as structured, so it plays faster.p0jk0
>>
>>96721100

>>
>>96728179

>Tomb of the Serpent King is great for showing examples of things that come up during gameplay
It's not good for that either. It's pedantic, soulless, boring, railroady, and it does that in attempt to offer a solution for a problem that doesn't exist in the first place: People can just learn by playing the actual game, no need for training wheels.
>>
>>96728128
>the way it handles attack priority/parries is poorly explained
Indeed.

>and gets messy when there are multiple combatants, and especially when individual fighters are fighting as multiple "men".
Agree, the part on the effects of weapon length/speed was meant to be used for 1vs1 combat. But you can still use the 2d6 tables for weapons vs armour while ignoring weapon length.
>>
>>96728128
Sorry, missed this part.
>I also don't like how it shits all over spears and makes Flails OP as fuck but it's easy to tweak the numbers I guess.
Yeah, there's a couple of things that could be tweaked, but remember that spears can be used against charges for double damage, thrown, and used with a shield, so they get lots of compensation for the crappy attack thresholds.

(And if I remember correctly, they also get a big bonus against prone targets in plate armor.)

Bit of a representation of how the Antagonist sides would look like, probably at least 5~6 turns in.
In this case from the Protagonist's PoV you'd want to dig Secondary Cave 2 right on your next turn, unless you are 100% convinced its a Trap for some reason. Despite having two unrevealed Encounter that could potentially hurt a lot, the Antagonist has only 5 Silver available, so its not impossible that he'll be even completely unable to reveal them if they are more expensive than that. Even without the Followers necessary to avoid or discard those Encounters, Digging on your first action as the Protagonist would be a good move, at least if you have 4~5 cards in Hand. Even if you faceplant into something you can't avoid, odds are at this cost the Encounter steps are going to be End the Dig. You then have the rest of your 3 Actions that turn to figure out how to go through (although, Digging last Action is always a bad idea).

Mate, one of my players murdered a child during a game of runequest, in order to stay concealed in a hostile town.

Know what?
It was a golden opportunity.

Because as soon as they stole the magic cow they were there to lift, the daft bastards ran off through a haunted wood.

>Cue supernatural encounter with the vengeful ghost of the child you just murderedand/or a forest spirit taking it's form

The player in question shat himself, because he went off to gather firewood or pick herbs or something, and came across what appeared to be a stag; he tries to shoot it with a javelin, but it turns around, and it has the face of the six year old boy he drowned.

It chased them fully out of the woods, to the point of exhaustion, and might have killed them if not for the Magic Cow getting stressed out and dispelling the spirit with it's enchanted silver horns, which were thematically appropriate, but I will never tell them were made up on the spot to prevent what would have been an anticlimactic TPK.

Also, the parents sent Babeester Gor cultists after them after; if you've played King of Dragon pass, you will understand that this is very, very bad.

>had a Session 0 and set expectations for the game

I had thought I did that? I told them the world was mostly "horror" (and we've talked some about "temptations"), so they'd be pitted against liches and demons and hags and devils. The swamp-hag is just one of the minor main baddies.

I guess I expected 1 or 2 of the players to be like "Oh we totally need armor and this is easy" and that the other players would be like "Um.... easy because it's killing a baby?" But instead all of them landed on the first one.

Maybe they are just fucking with me because the next session is next week. I just don't know how to be ready if they are indeed NOT fucking with me.

>>96732941
5e 2024 mostly, though players have been taking 2014 spells too. We just said everyone is "a good guy" because eventually the campaign is goinig to deal with a devil wanting the players to help conquer a good kingdom. Players are an evoker, a ranger/fighter, an assassin, and a war cleric of Tyr.
>>
>>96733039
Did the new 5e edition remove alignments? Because I'd be tapping that sign if it's still got them. Even if the players are retarded and are totally buying this chick at face value, their character's morals are probably gonna be a bit conflicted. Hard to imagine murdering an entire family for personal gain without hesitation as anything but an evil action. Especially if the baby is the only one who's supposed to be the BBEG.
>>
>>96732957
That might be the best "out" if they actually go through with it. Add to the "horror" element, the "beautiful magic woman" fashions a necklace out of the infant carcass and wears it around her neck.

>Sleep with her now, incels!

Maybe it also causes Fear on them anytime they think of harming the hag.

Thank you. Still though, maybe my players are all nuts.

Smaller bases mean easier to hit with template weapons though. It’s not all good. I find that most modeling for advantage works the same way, kinda always a double edged sword. The cheese would happen if you tried to pick and choose, for instance, you put all your space marines on 32mm, but then put the power fist sergeant on a 25mm hereby making him easier to squeeze around. You could go the other way too, using one large base to block movement or to make deep strikes easier.

Unsure what exactly you mean, there are Forgotten Fleets - which are creatures devolved from feral, stranded nids - and they had their own stats in case you wanted to run one
And there is 3rd edition codex which has Mutable Genus rules (essentially a freeform Wargear system where you start with a "naked" platform unit and kit it out) and Mutant Species rules (weird outlier nids with more powerful rules that straight up count towards your overall # of species included in the army).

That said though BT23 GeoGreymon looks pretty decent for a common and Time Stranger has the tutorial fight vs virus MetalGreymon and a boss fight later against a virus Greymon so maybe they'll get further support in BT24.

From what I understand they restricted lists to being more true to "scenes" from the movies. So you can't have any models or wargear that was not present in that specific scene that represents the warband.

I like the fun graphic design.

Don't know how it would play. Looks like it would turn into those parts of Monty Python movies where mucky peasants are being comically miserable. Still that's a fun setting.

I'd probably port all the funny tables into a different system and play the setting that way.

Well, guess what. Just like with that leftist cyberpunk game where there was similar retarded bit "corpos and police are enemy, you should not play on their side" (which i think comes from the same people as well) there is literally nothig that can stop you, other than other players not allowing it.
Stop treating shit like vidya where everything is hardcoded according to what designers want. You can literally take a marker or corrector pen and delete the passage you don't like from the rulebook, and they cant do shit to stop you.

Only thing that is important is the crunch, and basic idea of the setting. fluff is purely matter of consensus between players. game provides framework, not holy scripture. Especially considering that you are provided only with generic descriptions and are supposed to make your own shit, its not like you have dozen splatbooks describing every city, npc and quest. You are filling in the details anyway , so fill it with what you and your group wants.
Only thing that really matters in this game are rules and general feel of it. rest is up to you. Setting details are supposd to be timesavers for shit you dont want to make up yourself rather than hardcoded set in stone things you are not allowed to mess with.
That being said crunch and setting details in borg are nothing to write home about the shit is throughly forgettable.

Only think enjoy from them is the last war, because its a ww1 skirmish, and im a sucker for that shit, especially with wga cheap ww1 plastics together with shit from warlord 28mm sprue sales .

I don't think you believe coin-flipping is a valid comparison to rules-lite systems
If you really think it is, no point for me trying to convince you the sun really does rise in the east, just go do some more thinking, I'm sure you'll see it eventually, you're a big boy

there is but what's your point? as already stated by other anon, no ttrpg rule-system is complete and none should be, ttrpgs are not boardgames
that would be one lousy system and that's a lousy complaint

excuse me, anon, do I know you? because I don't think I do, and maybe it's time for you to take a healthy dose of meds

I would like to talk about Draw Steel, a grid-based tactical combat RPG, loosely inspired by D&D 4e.

I just played some combats at level 8, and I really have to say: the Silencing weapon seems a little too good for its ability to shut down a plurality of level 9+ leaders and solos. Between the soulraker hivequeen, the fire giant chief, the war dog taxiarch, Aurumvas, Strategos Alkestis, the meteor dragon, Count Rhodar von Glauer, the lich, and Ajax the Invincible, only the fire giant chief and Strategos Alkestis are not reliant on magic-keyworded abilities. Everyone else here suffers an unceremonious shutdown from a Silencing weapon.

It feels a little silly for Ajax to be unable to swing his Blade of the Gol King just because it is magic-keyworded. Yes, he has more turns, but losing even one turn is bad for tempo.

Victims of a Silencing weapon cannot even free strike because their free strikes inherit keywords from their signature ability.

Tier 3 results are not that uncommon at 3rd echelon and above, due to simple dice math. (This is to say nothing of the level 9 tactician's Grandmaster of Arms, which can get out of hand with the Rapid-Fire kit's Two Shot.)

I think that Draw Steel and D&D 4e are both decent games. I would not call one outright better than the other. I play and run both nowadays.

Draw Steel has better out-of-the-box, non-house-ruled game balance than D&D 4e, I think. Draw Steel has a more constrained optimization floors and optimization ceiling, and characters are significantly easier to build. Draw Steel's minions and solos work better than 4e's, in my opinion, and I find the Malice mechanic interesting.

I find the Bloodbound Band strange from a mechanical perspective. First of all, it is technically treasure "armor" in that it grants a non-stacking +6/+12/+21 Stamina; there is nothing wrong with this.
https://steelcompendium.io/compendium/main/Rules/Treasures/Leveled%20Treasures/Other%20Leveled%20Treasures/Bloodbound%20Band/

Suppose a four-PC party has Bloodbound Bands, all bonded to one another.

If one PC gets pushed 1 square into another PC, both take 1 damage, and then the splash triggers on three PCs twice.

If two PCs each get pushed 1 square into one another, both take 2 damage, and then the splash triggers on three PCs four times.

On the other hand, I have found the Bloodbound Band very popular at level 5+ simply because it grants a global damage immunity 2. The metagame tends to be equipping a Bloodbound Band just for that, unbonded. Indeed, when I ran Draw Steel at level 5 for four players, three out of four them wore a Bloodbound Band, unbonded; the only reason why the fourth PC did not have a Bloodbound Band was because they were a talent with Steel Ward.

Atop all this, the 9th-level benefit seems too situational to me. One PC still ends up dying anyway, and the party has just lost a 450-project-point treasure. It would have taken only a 90-point consumable to resurrect a dead PC during a respite.

Aside from the "just use the Bands only at level 5+, unbonded" strategy, maybe it is better to bond only the highest-Recovery-value PC and the lowest-Recovery-value PC. This way, they can still gain some benefit out of bonding, while not being as inconvenienced by 1-damage splashing from collisions and other little damage pings.

Dude, mild derision of retardation has nothing on the all-caps melty you threw a few posts back. Actual toddler behavior.
