>paladins are just cleric/fighters
>rangers are jus druid/rogues

realistically, assuming there are no subclasses (meaning cleric can't be druid for the OSRetards out there), how many different base classes would you need to assemble all of the common RPG classes (including artificer and psion)?

What would adding a 3rd dimension look like?

>>

1. stop thinking so much about mechanics
2. they are not even mechanically just fighter/clerics or druid/thieves ("rogues") or fighter/druid/thieves. If you make a fighter/cleric its different from paladin.

Rogues are not thieves or even rogues. They are the ninja class with different description text and another set of weapons. Sneak attack deals damage more than the warrior classes can and if we let the rogue/thief deal "flank attack bonus damage" aka "sneak attack damage" then how much should a single class fighter deal when flanking? The rogue is a ninja and a warrior. The rogue class is a peculiar abomination that in effect destroyed the thief role as all you do is seek flank and sneak attack.
They had plans for a ninja and made the class, the thief was useless in combat in 2e AD&D and if you dryly convert him (try it) to 3e/3.5e he is useless, but good as an npc hireling class.

Forget thieves and rogues and bards as core classes. Thieves are useless, the trapfinding belongs to the ranger and so does the sneak part and backstab, lockpick belongs to the dwarves and bards are at 5e (gets up to level 9 spells) nothing but full mages (enchanters) along with some other class combos.

Classes you need; remove sneak attack in general
Fighter
Ranger (traps, sneaks, backstabs like 2e)
Paladin
Cleric
Druid

>How hard is it to run Exalted in a homebrew world?
Extremely. Every single mechanic Exalted has is intimately married to the setting.

>I find creation to be paradoxically too busy and empty at the same time.
That's an issue of poor presentation. There's nothing wrong with using the setting as-is.
>>
>>96758232
>How hard is it to run Exalted in a homebrew world?
Depends on how far into homebrew you're going. It's more difficult to build from scratch than it is to use the original, for sure, but it's not extreme or impossible. If your homebrew is based on one of the Shards of Creation then you can use those to ease the process. If your homebrew is actually more of a merger with another setting expect it to be more difficult than either of the above options.

Grim.

Sherlock Holmes was almost all short stories that'd be solved within two sessions too. The trick is to have things that Investigation doesn't solve, like people jumping you in an alley or the perp having already left town, which allies that aren't straightforward investigators are helpful with.

I would strongly recommend having limited player count. I don't think you could do this effectively with five players. The sweet spot is probably one or two, so that there isn't all-round competence in every field available.

I always feature a pipe smoking dwarf bard somewhere in my campaigns. Last time it was Urist McResineight. I never intend for him to be a main character but with how he was most recently treated he may come back as a vengeful foe.
>be dwarf bard casually playing a tune by the inn fire
>some half-elf punk comes in and tries to interrupt your song
>wave him off so you can finish your song and talk to him after
>he and his friends throw a fit and make a ruckus
>wake up the next day with your lute and pipe stolen and piss in your boots
How should he seek his revenge?

Welcome to Warhammer Quest: Dark Water.
In this beer-and-pretzel adventure you control a handful of iconic heroes that wander the realm of Ghyran. This will be, for many casual players, their first taste the world of Age of Sigmar. Let's meet the poster boys.
...In particular, the guy in the helmet is the heavily armored tank that will be at the forefront in this introductory Age of Sigmar adventure, his name is Edmark Valoran, The Manticore Knight.

Now here's the question:

why is he not a Stormcast?
Is something changing at GW?

warcraft can be a very open setting once you grasp the backstory of the major stuff, just because blizzard is obsessed with major cosmic bullshit and rewriting the same thousand year elf lore every other expansion doesn't mean a DM is compelled to go autism mode over it. you can absolutely do a dark campaign through the dragonflight story/zones or a down to earth high fantasy adventure without faction bias or world ending threats.
hell, >>96751753 the "incoherent" setting just allows you to do cool stuff with the story and setting. demon hunter orcs and draenei, playing as furbolg or dryads or something with some sentience, and even new classes based on the vaguely established magic or weapons like spellbreakers or dark hunters.
it's a perfectly fine setting for an RPG

Should Space Marines be made more common? These mythical warriors of only 1 million or so total spread thin throughout the Imperium does NOT match up with what we actually see, which is the Astartes showing up in large numbers to even minor conflicts and dying in large numbers as well.
65 replies and 15 images omitted. Click here to view.

>>96752823
And the thousand marines per chapter limit also explicitly *does not* include all auxiliary and command positions, including pilots, drivers and initiates, etc. It only includes the standard ten fighting companies of the chapter. Which is possibly how the chapters that absolutely aren't compliant (e.g. Dark Angels, Black Templars or Space Wolves, etc.) try to bullshit the fact they're absolutely not compliant away when scrutinized by the Imperium.

You've obviously never encountered someone who is 6'7" (or 2 meters) and does any type of serious weight training. Because even though they put on muscle they're still quite lanky in most cases. Kind of makes sense that Astartes would be out of proportion because of the augments and that their head would be smaller in relation to their bodies than baseline humans.
