I still think this book was the best way to manage martials. 4e's "daily" powers etc for fighters made them all feel samey (at least on the surface). 5e's battle master has no scaling.I'm sure at this point we can all agree the Tome of Battle got too much flak.
>>97104134Everyone you send will be slain instantly.
>>97104128bet they actually aren't OR your casters are basically just glorified martials.
>>97104160No, they certainly are, and the casters can do all that a D&D caster can, and more.
>>97104145That book is about a guy getting isekai'd from Earth, handed some cool stuff to go out and adventure, getting a hot animal girl as his wife, and eventually discovering he's the reincarnation of one of the original paladins (the peers of Charlemagne). Also he fights a troll which regenerates unless you use fire on it.The D&D paladin is based on him specifically, and so is the first version of the alignment system with only Law vs Chaos (yes Michael Moorcock was also an influence, but he cites this book as one of his biggest influences)Also IIRC it declares that orcs are literally Nazis, as in they're interdimensionally connected and Hitler gets weaker every time you kill an orc.

If you put a 250-lb meatloaf in the oven and then burned it and then followed that by propping it up on a potty-chair to greet you at 11pm each night, you would have some description of these past two weeks. Which is to say the worst I seen since viet napalms. When somebody tells you that there is a level of pain beyond which the human mind cannot retain consciousness, please tell them to write me. In point of fact this lady has not slept more than 3-5 minutes at a stretch since she came to us – that was over two weeks ago and, thanks to medical advances, there is no end in sight; from the waist (waste?) up everything is burned off, ears, nose etc – lower half is untouched and that, I guess, is what keeps her alive. I took one guy in to help me change tubes and he did alright, that is alright till he came out, then he spotted one of the burn nurses (pleasant smiling zombies) eating a can of chili-mac at the desk, and that did it: he flashed on the carpet. It is fucking insane is what it is.

>>97103968Yeah Royal Base can steal wins because Tigervespa Ace is ridiculous but the deck is still super fragile.I can only hope when Zephaga finally gets its lvl7 it absolutely busted thanks to protag privilege. Granted the new Grandgale actually boots it immensely.

>>97103968Hudiemon :^)
>>97103982zephagas lvl 5 from the sakuyamon starter deck is kind of ridiculous and is a huge boost for the deck (the st grandgale is dogshit)even as a hard play, it comes down for 7 and is swinging at 13k, if you are a 12k lvl 6 without battle protection zephaga can just remove you off the face of the earth and setup an ace.that's the problem though, needing to have shit on board to interact with and it doesn't just immediately win the game if you let the zephaga player sit on board, it takes them multiple turns.if zephaga gets a lvl 7 that actually closes out the game, leaving them on board to avoid getting beaten up is going to be incredibly scary as they will just kill you if you try that.
I would like to build a deck based around all the various palette swap mons that originated in Digimon World 1. How would I go about doing this without it turning into just being a pile of cards?

Necrons don't need to breath, but it's not clear if their bodies could withstand deep sea pressure. There's also the pressure aspect. They might not even really need to invade, just puncture a hole in the hive somewhere and let it collapse as pressure caves it in and water drowns the rest.

>>97104014>Also, being able to utilize the existing bones to do other stuff to me seems like the smart thing to do. Take exist spells, classify them as "psionic magic" and have unique stuff that can only be done with them by spending the dice.Honestly I'd just say to ditch the psionic dice at that point. Just let the psionic subclass boost certain spells. The same way a Necromancer Wizard just gets free bonus skeletons. There's no need to have a resource system for something other types of magic just do for free.At most, I would say to shift psionics over to the spell point variant, and then possibly draw on Sorcerer metamagic for inspiration if there really needs to be a resource.>For me, different types of magic in the setting having their own mechanics would go a long way towards enhancing their flavor which is why Divine is so dissapointing because it's just vancian with a different hat and not much elseOne of the better setups I've seen that felt quite suitable for Divine spellcasting is from Dungeon Crawl Classics. Basically you roll to use any given spell, and on a failed roll you can't use that spell for the rest of the day. Not exactly the most groundbreaking thing, but it fit the flavor of a priest beseeching a higher power and eventually having their prayers go unanswered if they abuse it.Really not sure if that would translate well to 5e though, since it'd require some pretty careful balancing and an overhaul of how Clerics prepare spells in order to ensure they're getting a roughly similar amount of magic per day.
>>97104036Divine should definitely play more with alignment. I'd go as far (and farther) with something like your chosen god favoring certain spells over other so even if they have a range of alignments they allow the closer you are to theirs the more utility you can get out of the spell. Like say, spells directly in line with your gods alignment can be set to higher spell slots or something like that or get special options thrown on top of it.>>97104052This is just my own autism at play but in my eyes spell points should be a resource for magical creatures. Since I see sorcerers as essentially pc'able magical creatures, it makes sense they would use it to represent a more "natural" use of magic rather than just being shittier wizards. The fact that you can use magic because you come from a linage of magic users whove fucked dragons and liches is something that should be reserved for flavor.
Can anyone be a wizard in your settings or do you need a magic "spark"? Like in Harry Potter, you're born with it or you're not.
>>97104047The Imp and Quasit are the overall best from the list. They've got quite a lot of HP, can turn invisible, and can disguise themselves as ordinary animals. The Sphinx of Wonder also has some potential, where it can potentially make Arcana/Religion checks on your behalf and has a way to boost skills checks and saves, but Resilient is a better feat if you're worried about that. The rest have their benefits, but don't have quite as many noteworthy upsides.I'd say if you're taking a Feat for that as a non-Warlock (which is assuming that you're running 2024 Warlock but have access to Tasha's feats), then it's in competition with just taking Magic Initiate (Wizard) to get an ordinary familiar alongside two cantrips. Part of the reason they're better for Warlocks is that Warlocks can boost the familiar they get further by letting them use the Warlock's spell DC and attack as a bonus action and things like that. That's the time where the familiar having special abilities or being stronger than a normal familiar really starts to matter. But if you just want a cooler familiar, I'd say to go for it and pick the one you like the most. Keep in mind that changing which familiar you're using is pretty easy, and most of them are still useful in some way.

>>97057478I don't know, I find them all unsatisfying and don't know how to fix them.Like if magic and planar portals are common enough, then resource scarcity is not a thing especially not with accessible elemental planes, and resource scarcity drives a lot of conflict.Even non-elemental planes can suffer from that.
