Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128Comment too long. Simple rule to improve and balance wizards in OSR games: they can only memorize one casting of a given spell per day. You have 3 third level slots? You can cast one Fireball, not 2 or 3. Don't know any other 3rd level spells? Better go find some spellbooks. Hope you make your % chance to learn spell rolls (I won't bother addressing faggots who let wizards automatically learn new spells). God forbid you have to get more creative with your casting.

>>97820399If you guys are playing relatively RAW, it is pointless. The transitions in the succession campaign are very poorly balanced (what a shock!) and moving from Cinderak to Temenos you guys should all just reset gangs, or at the very least do something like rehiring gang members ar 1250+400c. Despite your outlier scenario Cinderak isn't deadly enough to warrant the 2000c starting lists, and any new gangs joining in Temenos start with 1000+400. The gang rating and even crew differences will be in the 1000s for just standard gangs, not even considering new joinees or your situation, or the characters randomly joining up. The move from Temenos to Jardlan is much smoother as those are both 1000+400, but even then if you play RAW any continuing gang will just be radically higher rating compared to a starting gang. Why a continuing gang also gets 250c on top of everything else when joining into the next campaign is beyond comprehension.

>>97816578>>97816540>>97816501>>97816178you don't need to mindfuck this, Epic figured all this shit out already>has every imaginable army from 40k>including activation skews>and All X extreme lists>it has alternating activations>shit works greatlike there's literally nothing to argue about. Chinese martial arts masters are almost always con-men who usually get their shit rocked in any kind of real fight and then go slink off in shame and pretend they didn't lose. the CCP loves holding up these guys and pretending like they're super legit because they play into China's fictional history of being a mystical, super advanced nation of highly disciplined warrior kings who lead armies of kung fu soldiers who can all kill a man with one touch.
>>97819486Apparently his son is still alive at 101 years old. That's pretty neat.
Is there ANY miniature wargame that isn't insanely expensive? I'm talking about things you can buy in a box and play immediately, not "print your own minis" bullshit or things where you're forced to use proxies cause official models don't exist.
>>97822486>greed = not evilSatanist
>>97822486When I was young, I was tall and strong. I realized I had two paths that opened to me because of this fact:> I could do whatever I feel like with the weaker people, terrorizing them.> I could protect the weaker people from others who, like me, are blessed to be taller and stronger, and decided to take the first route.I decided for the second route. I think the definition of evil is taking the first route.Being _Games Workshop_ and deciding to charge 30-100 dollars for a model that costs you 0.1-0.3 dollars to produce and at max ten hours of manpower to design and model, all while hunting down innocent people who try to manufacture cheaper ways to enjoy a game they grew to love, that's taking the first path. That's evil.
>>97822511>>97822527>I demand free stuff from companies!
>>97822527You get some of that with companies that sell baby formulae and whatnot. But GW manufacture toy soldiers, a luxury product. They sell to willing buyers at the market rate. They aren't extorting anyone.
>>97822527GW is 100% over priced, but you've either never worked any near this industry or just lying to push your point. You're probably right in saying a space marine cost 10 cents in plastic, but thats just plastic. Ignoring all the costs associated with running a business. Warehouses, stores, shipping, and manufacture. Injection molding requires you make insanely expensive molds and operate/maintain ridiculously expensive machines. Then you skip to 10 hours of modeling, which again, for a basic space marine, sure. But you're ignoring what makes a space marine a space marine. Notice how on every box, the model is painted really nice? They pay for someone to do that. Pay for someone to design the box. Pay for people to write short stories about how cool this marine is. Pay for people to write all their bullshit (I'm talking about the readily available free content). You can think all this shit is gay which fair enough. I hate defending corporations, but people always skip too far in the "its only 20 cents for this 40 dollar model!">all while hunting down innocent people who try to manufacture cheaper ways to enjoy a game they grew to love50/50 on this. people who are just stealing their designs are fair game. people who make their own stuff or fan content for fun? GW deserves to burn for that. who ever carried out the + purge is owed a special place in hell.
Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). >>97818549Oh yeah! Sweet anon thx.
>>97818523Forgot to include the reasoning of the Yin as a unit of mesurment. A yin is the average height of a Guyin converted into a standardized unit.
Still haven't settled on units of time and weight. Probably will just keep most time units the same (seconds, minutes, hours). Will intentionally keep vague about how long the day and nights are.Months/years are totally different though. Such time scale is based on the lunar cycle which takes around 400 days. So instead of months a cycle is broken up into the 8 phases of the moon. The world doesn't have the same tilt or wobble of earth so the differences between seasons is very mild across the world, mostly taking the form of wet and dry seasons. You generally will only see snow on mountain tops.Debated with myself if I should make seasons a full lunar cycle long but decided against it and instead will just wing it for whatever best fits the mood I am going for at the time. But yeah, really not sure on weight. Even if I transpose one from earth I am not really sure which one I should grab and if I should change the unit names or not.
Long in the future, some hyperadvanced civilization has constructed monstrously massive pylons. They’re hundreds of lightyears wide, billions of lightyears long, and they lattice across the universe like a gargantuan spiderweb. These pylons are full of entropy-defying engines, producing matter and energy in a universe where all the stars have long burned out and all the planets are cold wastelands. These pylons are home to septillions of people and… That’s where I get stuck because I have no idea what to do with this setting.

>>97820170True!
>>97821809Counterpoint: nobody should ever run campaigns at all.
