I never realized how many players suffer from aphantasia and insist on using miniatures. Are you one of them, or do you embrace the unmatchable graphics of theater of the mind?

Prostitution is the oldest profession. It has always existed and it will always exist. The presence of prostitutes and brothels is crucial for making a game setting and world feel realistic and lived in. Otherwise, it will lack all verisimilitude. So, tell us, how have you incorporated prostitution into your game?

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

XP for gold spent is a rule that completely changes the dynamics of the game and its incentives. I don't care that Arneson did it once, As a matter of fact, it's a NuSR staple today, something that only NuSR faggots do.

Ordered 1.6, probably not gonna paint any immediately and try get to playing first. The three vignettes are standalone encounters and not really things that go into the campaign right?
Should I try and pick up the Killenium Butcher or the Nukealope or should I not bother with them?
>>
>>97839980
>The three vignettes are standalone encounters and not really things that go into the campaign right?
You can fight them in your regular campaign after you get a certain ending in their showdown, so if you really like the models and enjoy the base game versions of them enough that you'd be willing to pay $100 to fight a cooler version of them, then sure.
>>
>>97840332

>Dreadfleet
Dreadfleet sucks, the game is a narrative scenario by scenario reenactment of the story with fixed team. The ships are not equal : 1 main character ship for each side. 3/5 ships on the Dreadfleet side had no sails, which mean they ignored the wind mechanic. 1/5 ships on Grand Alliance teams had no sails.

Games are decided mostly by cards drawn more than strategic planning. There're 2 type of card draw : damage card and fate card. Ships have hull and crew, and having either of these reduced to 0 by damage card is game over, aside from the normal stat loss damage card, there're also a bunch of quirky damage cards like : your ship is on fire again and again every turn (fire : draw a bunch of damage card, can be removed in repair phase instead of restoring stat), your ship take damage again and again every turn, your ship take huge a mount of damage, your ship just died (capsized), and other quirky status damage card that are either minor inconvenient or extremely annoying.

And then there're fate card : fate card made some wacky shits happen, but also determine wind strength and move it around, these affected ship with sails, pushing them and boost their movement, or stall it into a crawl. The force pushing can lead to your ship : run off the map (dead), run into monster/terrain/ships. Fate card also give upgrade! Upgrade that sometime you can't use, and sometimes you can, but it's an upgrade for the opponent. Sometime monsters appeared and attack you, and sometimes your entire team got damage.

Aside from the shitty rule everything is amazing though, from the sweet cloth mat, to the artworks, to the models. I had one unused copy of it.

Seth seems like a pretty good dude. I respect that he's one of the few ttrpg YouTubers who only actually reviews books or scenarios that he's actually either ran or played in. Too many channels are overhead shots of hands going through a book and talking either solely about the book as a physical product, or about their impressions of the work without actually having done anything more than a read-through.

Plus, his skits are funny and his advice is generally pretty good. Good channel, would recommend.

Amateurs. You have to tell AI to not be sycophantic.

Use the following prompts:

Do not be sycophantic. Challenge my assumptions, point out errors, and prioritize accuracy over agreement.

Be generally supportive and constructive, but do not agree with me automatically. If my ideas have merit, acknowledge that briefly. If there are weaknesses, gently point them out and suggest improvements. Avoid excessive praise or flattery. Maintain a collaborative tone while still ensuring accuracy.”

What I underood from the interviews and AMAs:
Acti-Blizz imposed a series of constraints:
Archon CANNOT add anything that isn't already in the SC IP. This means everything in the games and the EU is fair game. We could get whacky stuff like Grizzlies, for example (although I doubt it).

Models should reasonably preserve relative scale. So we're unlikely to see Carriers or Battlecruisers as models. Instead I think we might see them as cards. Ditto for Mothership or Leviathan. This does open un possibilities like having special cards like Hyperion for Raynor's Raiders, Bucephalus for Royal Guard, etc.

They have said they want to add in the Colossus. I don't know how they'd swing that. Ultralisks will definitely make it in. Thors I'm also on the fence about.

The image does say Fenix + Purifier units, which makes sense for a Purifier subfaction. I'd rather it was Talandar, though. A Zealot and Dragoon Fenix could be a separate Hero.
Makes sens they'll do the Protoss subfactions from SCII: Khalai, Daelam, Nerazim, Taldarim, Ihan Ri.

I think Lurkers are guaranteed. There already are Hydras, Lurkers are iconic, there's a Burrowed mechanic in place... It would also make sense as an Elite slot unit. Either 1 or 2 Lurkers. Kit could build a Lurker with Light Surge or an Impaler with Armored Surge. It just makes sense.

I’ve never played any miniatures games before, but I’m quite interested in Starcraft. How good is this copy of Warhammer 40k?
Also are two starter sets for two players all I need? It seems like the best prize-wise option when compared to buying all the units they contain separately.
>>
>>97840307
>How good
Its better than 40k ruleswise but that's not saying much. In general, I'd say its fairly good so far and definetly enjoyable vibe wise
>2 starters
I think you are better off with one all-in (in case you are doing TvZ). Unless I am mistaken, 2 starter won't give you Hydras or Goliaths (at least as many as you'd ideally want), you'll end up with too much infantry.
>>
>>97840307
>How good is this copy of Warhammer 40k?
Thematically it has nothing to do with 40k.

As a game system it is much better than 40k, though that isn't a huge achievement these days. If you don't know anything about miniature games it's useless to throw jargon at you, but the basic difference between the systems is that in 40k you move and shoot all your units at once, while your opponent just waits, and in Starcraft you take turns using units.

>Also are two starter sets for two players all I need?

To start with? Kinda, but also no. The game is just starting out, and we only have a handful of unit types available. It's better to buy one starter set to split, play with it at the 1000pts level, and then slowly grow your collection as more units are released.

Yup. As much as grogs like to pretend it was some integral part of the game that got killed for no reason, in reality it got taken out because so few people gave a damn about it that it wasn't worth wasting space in the books on.
>>
>>97837556
It required that you'd already be into wargaming hobby. (and that you owned lots of minis)
>>
>>97837556
Because it's a flawed game idea. The people that want to play a single adventurer don't want the "reward" to be that they stop doing it, and the people that want to manage shit don't want to have to slog through playing a pleb being stabbed by goblins.
The increase in scope sounds cool, but a change in the basic game is going to put off almost everyone that liked the game as it was.
>>
>>97839093
Birthright flopped commercially, yes.
>>
>>97837556
People back then did it wrong. You are doing it wrong. Run the game at multiple levels with players running domain level characters and low level characters.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.
