I played warhammer fantasy rpg with an ingeneer with higher ingenieering, int, etc that the master crafters the manual had as examples and the GM didn't even let me make a bicycle when they make tanks, clockwork horses, etc

And that's not even the worst part, white wolf stuff like vampire the dark ages, had the most "no, you won't do anything that even removely goes outside of what's writen in the book ever"

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

Prompted me to check though and that before the goblin green bases with plain goblin green brushed sand/flock topping for everything era, base rims seemed to be largely just complimentary to what was on top. So a lot of brown bases. Some black rim bases, some green rims sometimes quite dark green.

Absolute Timing is more automatic than the personal computer. If you wanted to know how long it takes to do something but only have the PC perk then you would need to take some effort (probably concentrate maneuvers) to bring up a "timer" application and then set and stop a timer. With absolute timing you just watch someone do something and go "that took 15 minutes and 30 seconds".
The PC timer would be more accurate, though, if seconds or fractions of a second mattered.

I have learned through harsh experience that no game will ever last unless there's already a friend group there to glue it together. My first group was already established, and snagged me to round them out. That group lasted seven years and four games. I integrated with the group throughout the first campaign and it was smooth sailing from there. My second group was a bunch of guys I met during a brief stint in Eternal Crusade. We became friends by shooting the shit together, and then someone decided to run a campaign. That game lasted around three years before the GM got burnout. I was dragged into my current group by a buddy I met in the AGP discord, he decided he liked me and that we were friends now, and I've been in this group since roughly September. The group has half a dozen games running roughly concurrently, and I'm in three.
To contrast this:
I once tried to get into a game of RT by selling my soul with promises of hotseat GMing. It was an established friend group. Three sessions in, half the friend group no longer shows, for no fucking reason, and despite trying to power through, the then-current GM clearly gave up, provided the shittiest on-rails Skeleton King bullshit session I'd ever had the misfortune to experience, and crashed out. I got the fuck out of there immediately afterwards.
A friend once cajoled me into playing BC with a prospective GM he'd met online. The remaining players were either internet randos or also grabbed by aforementioned friend. The game didn't last a single session.
Good group, good games. Bad group, no games. Friends are a cheat code to a good group, internet randos are a cheat code to the shittiest group you've ever seen.

The worst part is I had plans for a heist on Footfall that I was really getting into. I looked up hotel floorplans, I watched Ocean's 11 and other flicks, I had a list of cool loot they'd have in their vault and security measures for the thing, I had an NPC I would've used to get the ball rolling - a mafia boss type of guy who wanted a family heirloom and didn't much care about the rest of the vault (who could very easily have become a future plot point - what was the thing he wanted, why was it so important to him? Was it a Warrant? An ancient starmap? Archaeotech? Maybe even a Halo device? Did they players actually give it to him, or did they split, and now he's after them and fucking pissed?)
Point being, I'm very irritated I didn't get to run that heist, even if I probably wouldn't have realistically had the time to do so. It lives on a shelf in the back of my brain now, with all the characters I've never gotten to play.

This is a specification for an exterior ballistics software that can be used to calculate damage at long range in tabletop RPGs like Phoenix Command or GURPS where that sort of question arises with some degree of frequency. It takes in physical characteristics of a projectile (diameter, length, mass, etc.) and uses an ODE method to calculate velocity after a period of time has passed. I'd recommend either C++ or pure C for the programme as, particularly if you are generating tables for many types of projectiles, it can get very computationally intensive.

For the specification, start with the formula for drag force, $F_d = \frac{1}{2}\rho v^{2}C_{D}A$, so $\frac{\rho v^{2}C_{d}A}{2m} = a$. The issue is $C_D$, which must be determined empirically. We have an advantage in that drag curves all look more or less the same in terms of shape and proportionality (multiply the drag coefficient on a G7 drag curve by about 1.9 and you will likely be pretty close to the drag coefficient at that mach number on a G1 drag curve). Thus, we define our generic drag curve as on the below table. When a bullet is between mach numbers you have the option of linearly interpolating between them, which is less realistic but easier to write code for and will run faster, or using a more complex formula such as Lagrangian or Newtonian Interpolation, which are more accurate but slower. The typical air density (rho) at sea level is 1.225kg/m$^3$. A typical speed of sound at sea level is about 340 m/s.
