It's about how much mana the wizard can control.

Anyone can be taught how to cast a specific spell (given enough time), but the amount of energy you can manipulate as a conduit without exploding is set in stone (without the use of external factors such as artifacts or self-adjusting rituals).

Yes, your mind wizard can just take control of the planet explosion wizard, but if the later has a higher mana capacity, then eventually he could be taught how to control the minds of a thousand wizards.

Interesting. So any possible combination of characters that involved "puckee" and the number "21" are blocked as spam, regardless if there is a space or carriage return between them. The only way to get it though is to put actual characters between them, and it has to be at least 3 characters, because even just putting 2 periods after "puckee" caused the post to be blocked.

So there's definitely mod team interference happening here, because there's no reason whatsoever why a legitimate spam filer would catch this.

The stuff he's commissioning is technically competent, and gets the point across. There's nothing really inspiring or emotive about it, but purely as an art piece, it's fine. No good, not great, but not actually mediocre or actively bad.

The problem is that this art keeps being posted, over and over again, and usually in the OP of a thread asking an inane open-ended question about things unrelated to any specific gaming system. So everyone but the mods (and presumably puckee(no space)21 himself) are thoroughly fucking sick of seeing it. Not least because the inane threads push other threads off the board whole serving no useful purposes to the community.

So the art is fine. It's mostly guilt by association at this point. If puckee(nospace)21 just posted the art occasionally in relevant threads and didn't do what he's doing with new threads using the art in the OP, no one would really care all that much.

Not really. No biological woman has any genuine sexual interest in any man. Sex is entirely a commodified, transactional, activity. Man puts in resources (money, attention, etc), and when the woman feels like it, she will choose to output sex. But like a skinner box, she outputs only rarely or at random, so that you keep giving her resources in hopes that this time you'll get lucky.

They're basically just ammoral slot machines who talk back, when you think about it. An "evil" woman would be no different, except perhaps to enjoy the suffering of everyone putting resources into the skinner box a bit more than a normal woman.

it's not in games that already give you a lot of cards.
the "default" is magic and other draw 1 per turn games. they give you way fewer cards than you can use, so draw is very valuable. If a game lets you draw 2 per turn then draw is only half as good.

Demon Lord (essential 1e) is unapologetic in how it wants to make the world an irredeemable hellscape, and there is some scat related stuff in it to push this concept.

Weird Wizard (essentially 2nd Edition to Demon Lord) files alot of the overtly over the top stuff and keeps it grounded to a more neutral fantasy that can be shifted darker or lighter as you see fit. The core rules are also largely better than Demon Lord as well, just not as much content simply due to being the newer game.

I don't know about Weird Wizard but do know Demon Lord. Here's some of the differences that improve the game

That said, I'd still play splendor over it just for how quick it is set up and played. Not that roll requires all that much, but it sure is fiddlier. I've also learned through Roll that rolling small dice is somehow nowhere near as statisfying as rolling standard ones. I wonder where in the dice size chart the curve goes down again

Already grabbed myself a copy. I'm a sucker for theme and cyberpunk/cyberpunk-adjacent material.
The syndicates as suits that alter the behavior of the shared pool also seemed really neat to me.
Also off topic but relevant, I've been disappointedly watching Marathon's questionable launch success. Its got a similar-ish aesthetic, and a habit of mine is to try and capture more transient experiences in amber. Boardgames strike me as great medium for that given I can still be playing them in a decade or two if I look after them.
At least I get a dose of cyberpunkish material to keep in amber I guess, to compensate for Marathon's likely transience.

Roll for the Galaxy is the one game in our collection that grew on us the most over the years. Two players only. Takes us less than twenty minutes to play without expansions. Takes longer to put it back in the box than it does to setup. The cups suck but yeah if you're rolling those tiny bugger dice by hand they're a bit small but then again some turns you're rolling like twelve or more dice. It depends on your engine. I wouldn't honestly recommend the game to anybody these days but it will never leave our table rotation. I can't think of any game that gives that us that many decisions to make in such a short session.

I've stopped playing D&D and am now a GURPSfag, but I have played some Forgotten Realms and Spelljammer in GURPS using GURPS Dungeon Fantasy (*not* Dungeon Fantasy RPG). Very fun stuff. Much more fun than in D&D to be honest.
In any case, Mystara, Forgotten Realms, Spelljammer, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Eberron, Planescape, Al-Qadim and Ravenloft are all varying degrees of kino in their own way. A good and passionate GM can run excellent games in any of them.
The rest are trash.

Alright, home.
Pendragon is an RPG that's been around since the 80s. It was made by Greg Stafford and built on a similar system as Call of Cthulhu (they aren't the same same system, just super similar and homebrewing between the two isn't impossible, just kinda quirky to try and do).
The game is built from the ground up to emulate the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Each game session is meant to emulate one year of a knight's life, with feats, adventuring, tournaments, wars, things like that. Since the game internally can run for decades, it also is built on generational play, so you will play one knight, they will have children, one of those children becomes a knight, and when your knight retires or dies, depending on how old the child is they become your new character (typically they need to be 21, but some knights can be knighted as young as 16 in super rare instances, talk with your GM about that).
The game has a number of characteristics that define your character physically (strength, size, etc), and those characteristics adjust many of your skills (not all of them though, just most) but only your skills as they are at 14, after that you need to dole out skill points that represent your training as a squire up until you turn 21 and are knighted. Skills cover all knightly deeds, from sword skill and riding horses all the way to recognizing heraldry/individuals and more.
The game also has Passions and Traits. Passions are things like one's loyalty to their liege lord, love of their family, and any hatreds they have towards various individuals/families/tribes/nations/etc. Traits are built around one's faith and are always paired as a virtue/sin sort of combo (Chaste/Lustful, Generous/Greedy, etc). The total for each of ones paired traits is 20 (so 15 Valorous/5 Cowardly).

All Skills, Passions, and Traits have a soft cap of 20 and increasing them above that expands the crit chance.
Now, this is a roll-under system, so you want to roll below your score but you also want to roll as close to your score as possible (especially in opposed tests such as jousting or combat in general as the one closest to their score "wins") and rolling your score exactly is a crit. So if you have a score of, say, 24 then you crit on all 20s as well as all 19s, 18s, 17s, and 16s.
In order to increase one's passions, traits or skills, you have to use them generally (there is a chance to increase them through training and the end-of-year winter phase as well). If they are used, you checkmark them and at the end of session you roll and if you roll higher (or roll a 20 if it's already capped) it increases by 1.
Lastly, the game is best known perhaps for the Great Pendragon Campaign, a campaign encompassing like 80 or so years of play from 485 to 566, meaning you'll go through a good few knights in the meantime. King Arthur, by the way, becomes known in 510 I think? It might be 515 or any point between those two, I don't have the book right in front of me atm. But yeah, the game is expansive.
Magic is also rare and more of a mystical sort, not "magic missile" and "fireball" but shit like "WE CALL ON THE SAINTS TO HEAL THIS KNIGHT" or "the druid calls down a fog to hide your knights from the giants sights."

It enthused me enough to get back into the game re-learn the painstaking, agonisingly asinine mechanics, did enough right I was profoundly relieved from the impression Essence gave me of where they were taking them, and has enough lacking that there's just a little bittersweet aftertaste to it all. But god, in my entirely subjective and profoundly biased opinion it is by far the best thing 3e has ever put out both in terms of lore and mechanics.

If I had to sum up 3e Infernals in a nutshell (based on my own kinda flawed understanding of combat resolution), it's that they take Abilities to extremes that often give them unconventional edges at the cost of absolute mechanical supremacy that only rarely becomes a detriment. Brawl is the best illustration of this imo: If you look at Solar Brawl you get to do shit like stick people with persistent onslaught penalties, yo-yo people you punch into the horizon and just reset your rounds of control on demand. Infernal Brawl is NOT that slick, but it DOES do things Solar Brawl can't like give you scenelong permanent bonuses in exchange for penalising you stopping the fight early, sic grappling gambits out to short range, give you an Brawl-compatible heavy weapon that can inflict disease with a bite (which is...debatably useful given how long interval takes and there being no way to intensify syndromes, the best use case I can think of is sticking someone with Jigsaw Puzzle for a free Crippling effect mid-fight) and throw people hard enough to inflict fall damage. It also has what to my knowledge is the FIRST Solaroid Charm that flat out inflicts uncountable damage if it hits with enough successes, unless you count Heart-Eating Fist. Punching stuff falls far short of Solar and even Abyssal equivalents simply due to lacking anything like Fivefold Fury Onslaught or Rampage-Berserker Attack but it doesn't matter because the wrassling is that fucking sweet.

As for the other abilities-Stealth, Thrown, Linguistics and Athletics are legitimately the best I've seen in any splat so far. Presence, Socialise and Lore too although those are kind of cheating because Presence has VEE (now with an upgrade to affect entire nations!), Socialise has the replacement for Black Mirror Shintai, and Lore has Mind-Hand Manipulation/Principle-Invoking Onslaught (now with Agg damage!) which continues the trend of Infernals just cheating in compensation for falling short in pure arete.

I'm of two minds about the lore in a lot of ways. It's much better than what I feared it would be based on the devs describing it/Essence and Pillars, but I also miss the storytelling from previous editions, and Infernals being too new to write anything meaningful about their impact on the setting feels like a copout. I'm glad it's not the Green Solars angle from the 3e Infernals preview, but I also wish it did more to stand out and make it's own identity other than "revenge" and "not that". Hell is as gritty as 3e is willing to be but still more sanitised than Exalted should be somehow; Ipithymia continues the trend of baffling me with how the effort to whitewash certain characters is going, though closer to my grudgingly positive takeaway from Heron than my complete rejection of 3e Lover. Also I don't like how they made Ligier a more blatant Azhrarn expy. Plus his writeup feels a little underwhelming for what he is in terms. It's strong, don't get me wrong, it just feels weird the Green Sun does more sword/spear stuff than actual sun stuff. And I'm still waiting for the devs to reconcile the humanoid 3CD statblocks with their celestial forms.

Looking at how Blasphemy keyworded Charms work and how the preview described build-a-shintais, it's clear that Keys were definitely meant to be more than what they currently are (organisational shorthand). I definitely prefer the ExWoD approach of permanently adding to shintais rather than just letting you activate certain Charms at the same time, and the "avatar of a Yozi" thing sounds like a unique addon I would've liked to see incorporated somehow.

As with many, many things in 3e it really does feel like they threw out the baby with the bathwater and called it a day. Still, there's a surprising amount of fun to be had once you accept Devil-Bodies are less strong in and of themselves and more meant as a sort of chassis for your other Charms.

Also not amused by how they made a lot of the inner world-using Charms kinda undertuned, although the fact that you CAN bring things out you made with your own effort low key solves this. Just Introduce a Fact in there that enhances your Crafting (or sorcery, or VEE, or whatever), and you'll be mass producing Karvara in no time.

i think they were running their own shit when they weren't wed to a solar, plus i believe they were heavily involved in the shadow deliberative that bridged the first and second. of course their behaviors were different then because their castes were different
