"2026, I am forgotten..." Edition

>What is Genesys?
Released in November 2017, Genesys is a pen-and-paper generic/universal RPG system and toolkit by Fantasy Flight Games and EDGE Studio, using a refined version of the system presented by their Star Wars RPGs (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny). Its central mechanic is the Narrative Dice System, using pools made of specialized dice to create narrative results. The intention is for the system to be a highly flexible narrative system, adaptable to most any conceivable setting and premise.
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/genesys/
https://edge-studio.net/

>Any news?
The dice are still in stock. Also EDGE released a Twilight Imperium sourcebook for ships.

>Where can I find the books?
Check the Online Extras pastebin below for something useless. The core book is the only mandatory book.
>Do I have to buy the fancy dice to play the game?
Only if you want physical dice to roll. There are plenty of free dice rollers available online, now including the official dice roller app on mobile. Check the Online Extras pastebin for links.

Yes but the magic system is perhaps less spicy than some would prefer (although by the same token it's more balanced).
>>
>>97845126
*more balanced than D&D's magic
>>
>>97845107
If your idea of "standard fantasy" is pure dungeoncrawling I'd say stick to your favourite D&DLike (not that Genesys is bad at that, it's just not playing to the strengths of the system), but otherwise it's worth a go
>>
>>97845400
Genesys is a very well-rounded system, so it's not so much that pure dungeoncrawling "doesn't play to the game's strengths" so much as the system doesn't have any outstanding strengths or weaknesses.
>>
I’m running a 40k genesys game based on the pdf from the OP. I’ve told my players it’s not going to be anywhere as lethal or dangerous as Dark Heresy which frankly will hopefully be more fun. Not sure if people have any recs from their own experience with it. I’ve said no psykers because they struggled with the genesys magic system before. They’re 5e players so are used to trying to solve everything with spells instead of skills.

Should be fun they’re basically black ops. Their existence will be denied by the inquisition and they have no writ etcetera. Their Inquisitor is a xanthite wanting to use demons to control tyranids so they’re going to be doing some pretty extreme missions. It won’t be easy to make tyranid demonhosts but that won’t stop their Inquisitor.

It’s nice that the dice are easy to find now. I bought 3 packs.

Why is "Don't overprepare" such common advise given to DMs? sometimes it seems like people are allergic to putting effort into building adventures. Railroading typically happens when a DM is underprepared for their sessions.

Upon reflection, “prepped” is an over generous interpretation, since despite saying he prepared a village, he didn’t actually prepare a village. He prepared a map that he stole off google search, which isn’t a sin in and of itself, but he didn’t populate it with anything. No npcs, no locations, no descriptions, nothing. It was blatantly obvious he was basically making this shit up on the spot cause he got lazy, and resorted to “because I said so” cause he backed himself into a corner and knew it.
>>
>>97845411
Kek. Well, thats definitely a different way to do it
>>
>>97844013
Because it's a fuckton of wasted time and effort. The best thing you can do is have a general outline for several different plausible outcomes and fill in the blanks as things progress. If you're putting excruciating detail into every little thing 99% of it is going to be completely ignored and you're going to be blindsided by something you didn't think of and had zero preparation for because you were so hyperfocused on an expectation of things going how you planned.
>>
>>97844013
Because most GMs - particularly those that need advice - over-prepare. Likely outcomes include
>forcing the players into things you have prepared
>floundering when they do something else because they thought they had covered "everything"
>burn out and resentment because they have done a lot of "useless" work, particularly in contrast to the players

A novice's prep is mostly going to suck because they don't know what they're doing. It's likely to be a linear story, which leads to railroading, because that's their main experience of stories. Including a lot of RPG modules.

It kind of is? Like, at the top level Draven is the undisputed king, even after the bans and I don't think this will change too much in set 3. Being the easiest card draw legend in the game, and being able to do it 2-3 times a turn for some stupid reason, just makes him beyond powerful.
At store level plenty of decks can compete. I've been to 3 skirmishes this month and they were all won by different legends. Draven, Fiora, and surprisingly Ahri.

Anyone got any better than this D&D now vs then comparison pics, especially for art style?

Seeing the new MTG set look so incredibly gay and full of mediocre modern digital fantasy art is quite sad.

Her third great-nephew (Rain) is supposed to be a major character, but I'm not sure when he's supposed to be introduced.
At least, I think the Welcome Rain that's mentioned as a character and seen in concept art is the same as the Rain used as an example of how a male would be addressed.

It's not about extreme dimorphism, it's about retarded dimorphism where something often not even a mammal or hominid looks very similar to specifically a human woman. Note, how even in your image the female seal still looks like a seal and not an entirely different type of animal.
>>
>>97845579
it does still look like a seal but without context you would think its an entirely different species of seal. The female looks more like a male leopard seal than the male elephant seal

It does even out over many games. Your opponents also get bad draws. That's one nice thing about ranked constructed, since all the games are individual a few games of bad luck in a row is fine. If you play well consistently it will even out.

Whereas in draft or events where you have X amount of losses allowed, you can easily get fucked over and lose the entry fee immediately.

I ran Impossible Landscapes for a dedicated group, and we all had a great time with it. It was very funny/tense to see the dynamic between the agents who wanted to keep going down the King in Yellow rabbit hole vs. those who wanted to leave at every opportunity. As the handler, knowing they would all end up in roughly the same place was a very interesting experience to play out. Of course, their actions did have plenty of consequences. They might end up at the same destination, but what happens there and how it leads into the rest of the campaign is up to them. This was especially true for each of their characters endings. I can guarantee that no one else has ever had the same experience playing this game that we did.

I have never had a game where the players had such BS luck either. They should have died so many times. They all should have been insane 15x over. They won almost every combat with incredible ease. This is a campaign where Agents can continue to play characters even after their death. It is supposed to be a meatgrinder. But they just kept winning! It was like the King himself was protecting them, ushering them all into his palace in Carcosa.

I could go on and on about how much fun it was. Just give it a try, it's the masterpiece of the Arc Dream era

Btw what would be a good scenario for a game set in the 1930s meant to set up the PCs to be taken up by P4 division? I'm already considering Saturnite Chalice, and I like the opening (isolation, haunted house, ample opportunity for giving an excuse for Navy officers and employees to be doing something), but I'm not sure I like the prospects of my players being able to figure it out. The handouts may just confuse them.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.

The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

I know someone in here will sperg out about this suggestion, but I've had success getting RL normie friends into wargaming by starting with OPR (pic related), which is exactly what you're asking for (mini agnostic, stupidly customizable, allows fantasy and sci-fi to fight each other etc.). It's babby's first wargame for a reason.
>>
A jak n daxter skirmish game, maybe small wargame size.
Don't include all the main characters, I'm not looking for a dark-mode jak hero that costs 1/4th of an army.
I just think lurkers, metal heads, crimson guard, rebels, osselots (I don't know how to spell that), and even stuff from the first game like the plant zone enemies or mine guys would make for awesome minis. Plus different types of eco would make for cool resources, VP, or mechanics.
Sadly naughtydog was taken over by male feminists like Next Guymann that push out good woman writers.

As if that were the only reason. Why do chess boards exist? Are you not able to just remember where everything is, anon? Weak. Why are there even any maps of Earth??? Are you not able to just know geography??? Weak!

How about you stop making excuses for your laziness. You have to actually do work to make the game, anon. If you're not doing that work, it isn't a game. We're not here to just listen to you jack off. We're not here to play Mother May I, we're here to play an RPG. A game that takes place in a specific place, with a specific environment, and with specific rules for how to affect other things based on your distance from and position relative to them. A picture actually is worth a thousand words and we're only here for six hours or so, and that means we can't spend weeks describing a scene just because you lack the skill or discipline to make the fucking scene.

Tabletop games take place at a table for a reason. Put something on the table or don't fucking show up because there's a hundred other people who applied to sit in that chair at this table. Put in the work to be worth having a seat.

That's the bare basic fucking minimum. It's not an extraordinary measure, it's just the basic fundamental minimum to be able to sit at this table. We haven't even discussed yet what would be "going above and beyond". We can leave that for later after we're sure you've mastered this basic minimum. You may now begin to prove that you are worth a seat.

Can LLMs keep context between sessions? I've been trying to use Gemini to help with a custom campaign I'm making and it's terrible at remembering context between sessions (including "rules" you laid out in previous sessions).
Having it run my campaign as DM to test it would be helpful, but building the right prompts will probably take a while.

No, that isn't how they work.

Over the last few years, they have significantly improved context memory, but there's still a fatal flaw in all LLMs where the longer a conversation goes, the more it has to re-read the entire thing before generating a reply, which clogs up its context, which makes it incoherent all over again.

Then a lot of them got worse because they turned on a feature where it tries to keep your entire conversation history, every chat, every question, in active memory at all times so it can "personalize" outputs to your profile, meaning it is overflowing its context memory and token limits even faster for even worse outputs. Even if you turn that feature off, it doesn't seem to fix the problem at all.

The "entertainment purposes" line is genuinely hysterical in context. Every business rushed to inject AI into everything, even demanding employees use it, and then Microsoft sneaks in a little clause in their fine print that says
>you seriously should not use this shit for anything important, or any business, or anything you genuinely care about or intended to seriously act on.

Have it make a 'continuity list' which has all the events, characters, and rules that you set for that session and then plug that in as a google doc for your next chat
