>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.

Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. Talsorian Games.

I've been thinking; Is martial arts really "OP", or do people simply ignore Autofire/Heavy weapons too much?

The point of the X2 skills is that they do dominate over regular combat skills, that's why they cost more XP.
>>
>>97842810
the problem with martial arts is you lose out on all weapon traits and effects. no excellent quality smart fists out there. on the plus side it can't be disarmed, and costs wise the investment is probably similar. I think it's strong but not OP. heavy weapons are still kinda meh because you can throw grenades with athletics. only worth investing in if you know you're playing a mercenary level campaign with lots of nasty big boys
>>
>>97842810
Autofire can be made semi reliable with heavy investment but its always a gamble due to having to succeed over the DV for your increased multiplier. It also makes critical fishing pretty much null and completly removes tarot cards if you use those rules.

I never use autofire against my players because I have shit luck. I'd rather use reliable builds.
>>
>>97844941
I am literally playing in a game right now where the NPC wheels for our exec just dropped a 36 damage autofire on an ACPA and gave the emperor his new clothes.

When the dice are right it will completely turn an engagement around. It keeps people praying and puts heads behind cover.
>>
>>97844996
Don't recall the vanilla mooks having autofire, but I suppose execs could receive valuable henchmen as "loot".

Anyone still interested in devving a CK3 exalted mod?

Also some of my friends (new to the setting and system) want do to a short exalted campaign/oneshot, is there any foundry modules/books that anyone can recommend and should I run it with 3e or Essence?
>>

I respect the hustle, but personally I feel Exalted belongs in Dominions
>>

Not an official one but they do have one.

>>
>>97844928
I mean like a premade adventure that pathfinder has, or do you have assets from a previous campaign that you ran on foundry that you can share with me?
>>
>>97845201
Oh no, I don't have any foundry assets myself. I've run things exclusively through IRC then later discord.

IMO roll20 has the best dice RNG, in that it feels like its truly "random". The discord bot has some periods where it rolls high and rolls low, that's subjective tho.

Objectively I can say the code for the IRC exalted bot I used a while back did actually roll high, low, or in the middle based on RNG, like selecting a pattern then remaining there for a few rolls. At least that's what my player who is a coder told me.

The /btg/ is dead! Long live the /btg/!

No.
In fact, I've been frequently complemented about it providing an interesting and gripping environment.

Only time I've ever been 'called out' is one time in a Wormverse ttrpg where the players had a hypersonic jet craft that was secretly a biomechanical creature with the personality of a golden retriever.
The player that jumped up and dubbed it the "vore plane, vore plane" also had slept with most of that table at one point, and was a profoundly manipulative, mentally unhealthy woman.

Okay let me try this, I've never done this. Literally just going off the cuff:

>Step 1: Your Kink
Psycho yandere loli elf demigod mages that go into heat like cats and have arranged incest marriages
>Step 2: Your Political Powerfantasy
Theocratic Turbofascist Magocracy
>Step 3: Esoteric Magic System
Willingly possessed by spectral eldritch monstrosities that they have to share their minds and bodies with allowing manifesting of powers at cost of going schizo, get stronger by eating each others eldritch things after defeating them, might suddenly lose control and mutate into giant monsters.
>Step 4: Characters (Optional)
Rip-offs of all of my favorite anime girls with names changed and outfits swapped. Add elf ears where necessary.

How did I do? Would you play my setting /tg/?
>>
>>97791782
No, because I've never run a game in any of my settings because they're too undercooked and would require a lot of homebrew in most systems. I just use official campaign settings instead.

I will say I don't inject my fetishes into my setting too much, but that's mainly because I'm a footfag and it's hard to write that into a non-visual medium without it being insanely obvious, be that in worldbuilding or in rules (I could think of a few rules related to barefootedness but they'd be annoying and so niche to that including them would be more trouble than they're worth). I guess you could consider me including kemonomimi in my setting as "fetishistic" but while that was certainly a motivating factor, I also just needed more races to diversify and fill out the setting since I'm very picky about playable races and which I want to include in my setting.

I also try not to insert obvious political shit into my setting or games in general but the whole genre was originally built around ostensibly roughly medieval/renaissance/early modern societies that were, suffice it to say, far from friendly hugbox liberal democracies, and that suits me just fine.

The eyes on the inside aren't metaphorical at all, if you look at the dude in the wheelchair in front of the Rom fight entrance at byrgenwyrth and use clipping to see inside his head you can actually see that he actually has eyeballs lining the inside of his skull. 'eyes on the inside' is very much not a metaphor

Maybe I didn't express myself as clearly as I thought. I think it's important not to look down on others like you said. We all have our own journey through this life. Most people are doing the best they can. I think it would be too easy to say that someone who believes differently than you is wrong, to assume you know everything. You may know more than others but you should still leave the possibility that they might know something that you don't or that you may simply disagree if it's not a matter of fact but opinion everyone has a right to their opinion. I think god jumpers could fall victim to arrogance way to easy. In fact that may be their greatest foe at some points. Never believe your own hype.
>>
>>97844232
>Maybe I didn't express myself as clearly as I thought.
Or I didn’t grasp what you meant.

>I think it would be too easy to say that someone who believes differently than you is wrong
Both in Jumpchain and real life.

>You may know more than others but you should still leave the possibility that they might know something that you don't or that you may simply disagree if it's not a matter of fact but opinion everyone has a right to their opinion.
Yeah, it’s about respecting others. This reminds me of how C. S. Lewis said that a truly humble person is not some greasy, smarmy person who is always telling you that he is nobody, but a smart, intelligent person who was very interested in what you had to say to him. I suppose this is how you remain good as a god jumper, stay humble and treat others with respect.

So what are you working on?

>Why should I homebrew?
/tg/ products are fairly unique in that it's actually pretty simple to make them these days, with a plethora of products to assist in making and playtesting your game. Making your own games helps understand why games are made the way they are, as well as being fun to do.

>What you should post
Ideas for games, games you're currently making, updates to your own games in broad strokes, and any homebrewing for existing products that don't get much attention. Discussion about the above is welcome. Post good, be good, and look over others products, they care if someone looks more than anything.

>Inversion RPG
Hello! as a TTRPG DM, when I'm trying games, I don't really care about art FOR ME.
I do care for art for my players. If you provide 4 pregens (with art) and a simple adventure, I'd be happy and try it.
If you provide art for mentioned pregens and for the monsters/challenges they will find, it will be awesome.
Just give me the simplest most straightforward adventure I can play with a table at my TTRPG club, for lvl 1 players, I don't mind if the Far Farmlands and the Endless City don't have a unique full page spread, I want my players to be able to pick their pregen based on how cool it looks and gauge how dangerous a turtle knight is by looking at hte paper mini I show to them.
You're playing meta. You're getting the GM to like your game by the cool things he can show his players; illustrations are not cheap, make use of them not to fill pages but to make them be usable at the table.
>>
>>97845055
Right now, I'm creating Daggerheart pregens in a pamphlet mode so I can print them (and give them away at local conventions, with my club IG on the back).
I resent that a bit, but they gave me pregens, art, a simple adventure (Sablewood Messagers is a decent introduction adventure) and enough NPCs and encounters (as in "3") that I can get the idea end follow on my own.
>>
I'm thinking doing some light homebrewing in D&D. Using the standard D&D Spellbook, I want to make all spellcasting into a single paradigm of
>Must have components to make spell potions, salves, etc. before use on a daily basis
So potionmaking is not optional but the only way for spellcasting to work. Just like regular potions they can be shared between party members, thrown, etc. But in this homebrew using a sling or something is the only way to get range on them that is greater than what strength allows.

To make the potions and simplify it for tabletop:
Anyone can purchase a Bandolier. Bandoliers carry 4 drachms of any generic reagent. A drachm is enough to make spells for a single levels worth of spell slots. So at level 1, a Wizard's bandolier has enough drachms to brew three cantrips and two 1st Level spells. At Level 2, a Wizard has learned to be more efficient so they can brew three 1st Level spells. At Level 3, they need to buy a new bandolier to have enough drachms of reagent to brew 2nd Level spells. Spells selected would need some kind of fixed rules to help translate them from their schools to specific reagent requirements and amounts.

Brewing a potion requires skill checks against Dexterity and Intelligence. Failure requires players to roll against a table, similar to what happens to psykers in 40kRPGs. This can cause anything from weakening the spell to causing it to go off during brewing.

Damage to potions can also cause them to either leak harmlessly or go off in whatever is holding them, whether that's a pack or a hand.

The idea is just to have something a little harder and mechanical to fit a homebrew setting I'm working out.
>>
>>97845055
This is great advice. As soon as Beta 4 is out, or with it's release, I'm going to make those pregens.

FUCK LFNC. Kill all LFNC players. Burn all LFNC cards. Behead whoever designed it. I think CS and especially Hudie has proven that the whole idea was fucked from the start and never should have been made. Be glad they're re-doing the family from the ground up instead of just banishing them from the card game entirely for 20 years like Kadabra in Pokemon (granted that happened for an entirely different reason but that's not the point).

Dude, if you actually read through the thread before firing off this shitpost you'd find that I am actually sympathetic to why people don't like this stuff. I was just seeking further clarification as to the why, and furthermore, I also dislike art like that if I'm being honest.

The problem is that I'm not opposed to the idea of dwarves baking cookies by default. That said, and as I've said before, that particular piece of art seems to lack any sense of adventure, danger or risk. I.E the sort of stuff people play games like DnD for, typically.

Nope. Where it does things differently, it's underbaked. Where it mirrors 5e, it's shallow. It feels built by committee from a group of people who liked some ideas but, somehow wanted to make them worse.

For example:
>I like the idea of a success/fail mechanic that includes a different axis such as advantage/disadvantage.
>But rather than make it follow rationally from difficulty and character skill (such as Genesys) let's make the likelihood of good/bad complication be entirely 50/50 and create a needless metacurrency
>We like PbtA moves and GM turns
>Let's tie GM actions to a random metacurrency
>Accessories like reference cards are super popular among hobbyists
>Let's design our game so that it's near mandatory to include tokens and cards

It's also incredibly shallow. Power levels scale wildly and challenges are fairly trivial. If 5e is "high" fantasy, DH is "coked out"
>>
>>97832339
Multiclassing is essentially built into the system, and you get 3 major choices to mix and match what ability kits (called Paths) that you want, with no requirements needed choose them.

Lvl.1: Novice Path (Skeleton)
Lvl 3: Expert Path (Organs)
Lvl.7: Master Path (Skin)

Best way I can explain them is to image every single subclass in 5e wasn't tied to a specific class and you get to pick 3 subclasses to define your character, while still getting all the benefits those 3 subclass choices have to offer. This can make some wild combinations or something more traditional based on personal preference. Assuming we're just using the core book, Novice Paths are 1 of 4 choices between Fighter/Mage/Priest/Rogue (skeleton), but your Expert Path has a lot of different options that make up the bulk of your character's specialization (Organs), and Master Paths give you the most options out of all, and allow you to lean in on a specialized niche for your character to focus on (Skin).
>>
>>97824951
What's your opinion on campaign frames? Their idea to use them to mechanically reinforce the theme of your campaign has been shilled a lot, but it seems the burden is mainly on the GM to come up with the implementation.

Hello, I like the DHRPG system. I like the Fear/hope currency, I like the domain cards.
And I agree with most that you say.
What I can add is that a reasonablegroup f newby players can combat a full battle point worth of enemies being barely scratches. I ran a 25 BP encounter vs 4 players (2 newbies, one that played DnD 3.5 and other that played VtM with katanas and Uzis). They razed the battlefield and I couldn't do much, I barely did 3 or 4 points which were easily cured, and I was not holding back.
A good Guardian can soak up basically any damage done with little consequences (I switched to "if reduced to 0, you lose a stress point" and they agreed that it was too easy anyway).

See heres the difference anon, you want a warGAME, and some people want a WARgame. Real war has distinct advantages and disadvantages, and a lot of people find fun in figuring out ways to mitigate the disadvantages they are forced to start with. Look at how many historical players do D-Day scenarios, with one side literally starting in concrete pillboxes, while the other starts by crossing an open beach

No it's not. You've played 40k, it's utter fucking dogshit.
>>

I heard this in one of their latest videos, "The Warhammer 40,000 Tabletop Battle Game". GW doesn't even call this a wargame anymore.

The hobby you seek is out there, I made my peace with 40gay and moved on. If you haven't been trying to find a group to play old 40k or move on to greener pastures, you deserve to be stuck in this hell forever.

That is not a bad set of ideas. Gives me all a very different feel

I like the use of the Alchemist kit as a guideline for Transmuter.

Agreed, it's very on brand for the classic idea of a transition. It just feels right.

>Here's a post from Geoffrey McKinney where he says he thinks the OSR started with Hackmaster in 2000
Ah, cool, so he doesn't agree with the claim that C&C is the first OSR game then?

>As a bonus, here's a post from Calithena saying some completely unrelated shit
Okay, that's nice. I'm not going to roast you for this too hard since you said it was a bonus, but it also doesn't mean anything.

Literally the story of every new indie system in the last 20 years. What's wrong with people in this industry? Does this industry only attract retards or what? It seems that way because only DND has created an official online service, while the rest believe that Internet is something secondary in the 21st century.

Faggots on here like to act as if knowing how to advertise and build up a community is somehow "gaming the system". It's why they screech and cry about Shadowdark, despite it having two incredibly successful Kickstarters along with a healthy community. It helps that they keep a tight grip on not letting the retards in said community get out of hand with political bullshit, too.

And another anon was right, this thread stinks of street-shitters.

Shadowdark literally paid a bunch of popular youtubers to promote it, which led to those successful kickstarters, which were then, in turn, promoted by Kickstarter itself.

No one denies Shadowdark was successful at shilling itself. Just that it doesn't deserve the success and reputation it got, because it's an extremely below average game.

What incentive do I have to seek out your seemingly good system? I think what plagues heartbreaker designers is they don't ever stop to realize their game has zero wow factor, it could NEVER spread by word of mouth. Everyone is just going to keep playing what they're playing and you wont even be a blip on the radar. Your system cannot just be "Good" it has to be revolutionary, it has to answer questions people have either asked or haven't thought to ask yet.

The way I see it, games that focus heavily on wow factor (lots of art, fancy layouts, high production quality, etc) end up being terrible games. What makes a game get noticed is being like mork borg. All style, no substance. And there's tons of games on the market now that have this exact problem. They get that word of mouth because they are eye-catching coffee table artbooks pretending to be TTRPGs, and their game design and general playability tend to be god awful, abysmal bullshit.

Quite unfortunately, that's what gets youtubers and the scant few RPG journos/critics to promote them. They don't even have to be revolutionary, and in many ways are a drastic step backwards in RPG design. People don't care if it answers questions no one has thought to ask. And they don't care if it's an original or unique idea either. They care if it looks cool, because they were never entertaining the delusion that they'd ever play it anyways, which is the most damning thing that could ever happen to a game.

Nobody playing Mork Borg. No wow factor. No incentive.
