>>97892054This is fucking based and is the only good thing to come out of SL and UB
>>97892646I see.I understand why a replacement effect that replaces the Incubator token with a different token (ala Divine Visitation) would get the tokens but I did not know for sure that a replacement effect that kept the Incubator but added another token would give them both counters. The replacement literally reading "Create an Incubator token and a green Squirrel token that enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it" doesn't make a huge amount of sense grammatically unless only the Squirrel gets the tokens (because of 'it' being singular) so my brain read the replacement effect as:"Create an Incubator token that enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it and a green Squirrel" because that creates a proper English sentence.I don't dispute the rules, I just think that they are somewhat unintuitive from a grammatical/syntactical sense.when I checked the rules for Incubate I was hoping to find something like >>97892638that said "put X +1/+1 counters on each token created this way".
>>97892664Well, you just have to substitute in appropriate grammar for replacement effects. It's the same for an effect that gives a token haste or sacrifices it at end of combat. Pic-related with Chatterfang would create a soldier and a squirrel both tapped and attacking that are sac'd at end of turn despite the grammar of it. The effect being replaced is the token creation itself. As part of the incubate effect, counters are added to the token(s), and incubate doesn't care how many tokens it's actually creating. All effects that would be applied to the singular token normally by incubate or similar effects are applied to all additional replacement effect-created tokens.

I want to talk about how bad the maps in Deadlands the Weird West are and how difficult it is to find the information needed to clarify the different parts of the setting.I had to read through an entirely different game line, the Great Rail Wars just to find information beyond the most basic details which weren't much better than a few dates and a few names. There was somehow information in the Smith and Robards Catalog for Locomotive Armor but there were no stats for locomotives or how to determine their stats until going to the Great Rail Wars where the vehicle supplement in that game line was about almost everything other than trains and the upgrade system in that did not add any of the flavor that you would expect from the different rail wars factions.

So, I have a character who after losing everything, she ends up in a city she doesn't know well. She's reduced to becoming a teen delinquent, a wharf-rat on the city's docks. I'm thinking of adding a small detail. I know some people might go and ask "why didn't you find a job or a master" (she couldn't without selling herself as a de facto slave, marrying, or joining a convent) unaware of the many, many barriers that can keep someone poor or stuck in criminal life. >Legal Barrier. To work in a shop or a trade, someone (a father, a priest, or a guild member) had to sign a document taking responsibility for your soul and your behaviour. Since she has no one left, nobody can vouch for her no matter her skills or upbringing.Incident 1: She tries to help a merchant or a craftsman. He asks: "Who is your master? Who can answer for your theft?" When she says "no one," he sees her not as a worker, but as a risk. To hire her is to break the law. She learns that in the eyes of the law, a person without a master is a person who doesn't exist.>Heathen, othernessSince she's mixed and has a southern accent. She isn't just a girl; she’s a "pagan" or a "witch."Incident 2: She tries to get a job as a kitchen maid or a laundry girl. The mistress of the house sees her mother's amulet or hears her pray differently. She is crossed out with a sign of the cross and chased away with a broom. She realizes that even if she worked twice as hard, she would never be "clean" enough for their world.>Vagrancy lawsComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97890287I mean, you don't even need to make her foreign or heathen. In Medieval times immigration into cities was strictly controlled; you couldn't just walk through the gate and expect to get a job. Lords didn't want to lose their agricultural workforce, and cities didn't want indigents competing for jobs, nor all the begging and thieving. Peasants were tied to their land and cities legally distinguished between their own citizens and immigrants. Of course, the strictness this was enforced with varied. If there was a demand for labour, cities often turned a blind eye to peasants coming in from the countryside; there was even a law in some places that if a peasant spent a year and a day in a city without his lord demanding him back that he would be officially recognised as a citizen. But in general, there were not a lot of spare jobs to be had. All the trades were tied up in guilds, so you couldn't just set yourself up as a cobbler or whatever, and apprenticeships often had to be paid for by the apprentice's family. There would have been a certain demand for unskilled day labourers, but not much, and it would have been heavy manual labour that certainly would not have been offered to a woman.
>>97892738>>97890287More or less the only legitimate work that would have been available to a young woman would have been as a domestic servant, but a family would be very unlikely to take a stranger into their house with no references; maids were often daughters of a family known to the employer who hired them as a favour, or at the very least they'd served in another household known to the employers. As you say, there was the risk of theft, and just the general suspicion of strangers in a world where there was no effective police force; a multiple murderer could travel fifty miles, change their name, and no one would ever know. It's not impossible that a family or business in need of a maid might take pity on a young girl, but it would definitely require a stroke of luck. Which is why prostitution was so common in the Middle Ages: because if you were a young woman who got severed from your family and community, you had few other options. Thieving was one, but why risk getting hanged when prostitution was far easier and safer? But of course, you can't really write a fantasy adventure starring a young prostitute, at least not if you want to get published. So yes, criminal would be her only option, and you don't even need to make her foreign or heathen to explain it.

After running the game thus far, here's what I've come to understand:>If you use the new difficulty math, always make your encounters high-average, or hard.>If the new difficulty errata says to lower a monsters health, don't. In fact, give all monsters that are Difficulty 4 +5 total Health, or they will get killed in a single hit often.>You need more mooks, because PCs who min/max single hit damage will delete a whole enemy before they get a chance to act, but that PC usually can't make two attacks per round. Larger groups of smaller dudes with ranged support is the hard counter.>You need to do roll over damage into health. This should have been standard in the core rules.>Combat turn order is way faster than most games, but heavily relies on you as the GM to force a relatively hasty decision on who takes Initiative to keep the flow going (PCs will stall here for whatever reason).>It doesn't matter how much content you cut, you aren't fitting it into one 4hr session.>Zones are legit my new favorite way to run the game.>Once PCs hit Master tier, auto dice rollers will make the session run way faster.>Every single player has openly admitted to me they prefer this system to 5.5eSotWW thread

>>97892643A one shot. Every time I try, I can never get the adventure to end the same night we start, but that's probably more of a personal issue on my part, since the situations I usually task the PCs to solve has some investigation/exploration needed to complete it.

>>97891042>The d20 system invalidates nearly every decision and strategy during a turn. That's hilarious to hear because the TeCe boys praise the game for having dice rolls as the resolution mechanic. They think it's good that if you're not playing well but suddenly luck swings your way that its peak comeback time; get fucked superior strategy! I honestly don't think the game has much appeal in many metrics, but I know hot or cold dice is something I'm not terribly keen. In fact I place strategy and positioning in high esteem, so I know that would eventually get to me. There's always a question if dice not being balanced as well, so I would always be skeptical letting someone bring their own D20, which happens to be 'old reliable' that dabbed on a total party kill opposed roll many times before. Sad to hear the other merits of the game design don't shine through despite the swingy nature of dice.
