>>97901892One of the reasons I'm a little hesitant on her is that she clashes a little with another De-Digivolve card that Gear Forest can use, the new Deltamon. Since he's a Titan. I think Orochimon can make the cut though since he's higher level.

>>97899548I mean, there's luck in CoC, and in a situation where you have 60 or so in a skill and there's no outside complications, you shouldn't even have to roll really. Also i do agree with the general "how to run an investigation" Gumshoe advice, with a couiple caveats
>>97899548This seems to be an issue not so much of CoC, but people running CoC wrong. As you mentioned, the rulebook says not to place plot important clues behind skill checks. However, I think failure can be interesting, and I suppose that’s my issue with Gumshoe. Sure, I’m not going to deny that clue to you if you fail the check. But I might have it result in you getting the attention of someone you’d rather avoid, or get conflicting information alongside the true details. One of the most interesting things to come out of my last CoC session came about because a player failed a pushed roll. A bad dice roll helps drive the narrative as much as a successful one.Plus, as >>97900415 says, there’s always Luck.
>>97900806>But I might have it result in you getting the attention of someone you’d rather avoid, or get conflicting information alongside the true details.TOC has antagonists' reactions scenes, depending on the character's actions.
>>97900806Well, you can still fail rolls in ToC. General rolls have points attached to them, but it's still possible to fail, and there is the extra layer of risk/reward in when/how to spend point, which adds tension to every roll. As for failure in regards to finding clues, I think Gumshoe does a good job of that as well. Having a point just means that you can find a clue using it. If you have a social skill, and you're in a situation where you could get a clue with it, you do. But, you could also spend points on top of that. So, maybe you get a clue from a bouncer with persuade. The antagonists could still come to that bouncer and and find out that he told you that information, which sounds like the kind of thing you're talking about in regards to failure creating interesting situations. You could also spend a persuasion point, and say "I want to make sure that he doesn't tell anyone I was here." Which equates to a "success" in call of cthulhu. Not sure if I'm explaining this well. All it means is that your players get enough information to move the game state forward. You, as the GM, can still do whatever you want behind the scenes, as long as it makes sense. I guess this feeds into a deeper topic of gming, which is that i feel a lot of times game masters feel that they need the permission of the dice in order to do things, which I don't really think is the case.
>>97896688maybe Unknown Armies is what your looking for? Its setting is admittedly very gonzo in its approach basically having everyone be some kind of crazy in the occult underground but its a lot more forgiving on magic stuff.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97901531were you able to use the hobgoblin firehose on them?
>>97901582They actually managed to handle that encounter without getting hosed. They decided to stand and trade ranged attacks against the Hobgoblins and, despite their cover bonus, managed to kill enough of them that they were able to assault without getting hosed. One even managed to use a grappling hook on the spout and rotate it towards the far end of its firing arc to allow them to pass after killing the Hobgoblin manning it. They then set the spout to douse the bridge as they ventured forth to avoided being attacked from the rear. The party has been particularly brutal against the Hobgoblins and Orcs*, but generally polite to the Kobolds and the Necromancer in the crypts. They briefly ventured into the lizardman quarter and left after one of their retainers got blinded and are now dealing with the Asylum. The Mad King has requested their help in dealing with the evil Magic User in their territory. I think I've come up with a fun way to use that situation and the Nixies he's encamped with. *The party used Hold Person on three Orcs and forced them to watch as the party burned all of the Orc women and children to death.
>>97901766>The party used Hold Person on three Orcs and forced them to watch as the party burned all of the Orc women and children to death.PCs, man
>>97901766I didnt get to use the hose either! When the party besieged the hobbos, the MU summoned 5 shadows, and the hobs had no defense, but made morale so fought to the death until they were all withered husks. They genocided the lizards by hand, they hated them. The asylum was a fun part, I gave the mad king magic armor that is always too big (instead of always fitted), and a round shield painted like a giant evil smiley. The retainer of the party MU is wielding the shield. The armor got buried with its wearer. heres a sloppa

Sorry in advance if this isn't the right place to ask. Genuinely unsure where else on 4chan might be more relevant because I realize this is extremely niche.I'm looking for a marketplace that trades or sells those cards that get dispensed from Japanese arcade machines. Is there any place like that in the English speaking side of the world? As far as I could find, the specific card I'm looking for isn't sold on any Japanese sites. Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97784855Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: pastee.dev/p/sp2Mdb5Ihttps://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generatorThread Question: Do you use your world building in games and projects as you go or are you waiting for something such as your world feeling somewhat complete? If you are waiting, at what point do you think you world will be ready to use?Alternatively are you just world building for the joy of worldbuilding, with no particular game or project in mind at this time?
>>97900902Ashurbanipal was a ruthless sonovabitch.
>>97901012Well, there was the tomb robbing going on during the aftermath of the Bronze Age collapse. The manner that the tombs were looted imply not common thieves, but state-sponsored grave robbers. This was part of the effort to keep the high spending on the army going on after the fall of civilization elsewhere and the rise of powerful, megalomaniacal men like Herihor running essentially a post-apocalyptic dictatorship.
>>97900920I would say if you've already got an Obsidian setup that you're happy with then there's not really a reason to switch, but if you're new to it and can't be fucked to bother messing with different plugin setups then Chronicler is much easier to get started with since it's designed for wiki-style stuff out of the box instead of being a general note-taking app. The downside is less customization options if you want more advanced features, afaik there is no plugin system.Pic related is part of a page I made for one of my races as an example of the built-in features, the infobox just works natively and the table of contents is entirely automatic. I know there are some fancier things people have done with CSS so there are more advanced options (and there's a template system for importing shit other people have made on the Discord) but I still don't think it's nearly as customisable as Obsidian is. But if all you want is basic wiki features for organization like me then Chronicler is plenty and way easier to get started with.
>>97901191https://chronicler.pro/vs-obsidianThey've apparently already got a page that covers the differences. Apparently I can just import my vaults into Chronicler, which makes some sense with them both being Markdown. But I'm worried about some of the content that some of my plugins create; primarily Draw.io diagrams (for a LOT of things) and custom radar charts from specific page inputs (for quick visual analysis of class specialization). It's free, so I'll give it a shot.

Hey all I wanted to make a thread to share some DM advice to each other, for myself it's mostly focused on making the most out of nothing... what I mean is how to come up with ideas for terrain without spending absurds amount of money on terrain. How can you be said to even understand the genre of fantasy enough to run a fantasy game if you don’t read fantasy novels, short stories, nor poetry? If you don’t read, your “sandbox” will be barren. Your campaigns will be dry. Your characters will be simulacra of simulacra, false copies of false copies. You will not give your players anything worthwhile. You can’t just base your universe of video games and visual media.
