This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

>This is an OSRG, a place to talk about the OSR
No it's not. You can already talk about OSR games in /osrg/, so nobody will do that here. You can talk about NuSR games in /nusrg/, so nobody will do that here. And so on. You can also talk about more specific topics by making dedicates threads if you want, such as the Greyhawk thread in the catalog right now. This is either nothing but a spergy grievance thread doing nothing but seething over /osrg/, in which case it should just be j&, or it has a specific topic of some kind in which case you should state that in OP. But under any circumstances it's not an OSR general; that's here: >>97206024

And it's a nice general, too; the only requirement is that you not post about non-OSR games there, a requirement everyone but you is perfectly capable of respecting.

So are those rules good or bad? Why won't you say what you think about them?
>>

>Those are official rules, not optional.
Niggy, the ONLY optional rule in Anon's infographic is the gold for XP. All the others are the standard stated rules for experience gain in 2e. You'd know this, if you had ever read it.

What is the general consensus on this?

Is the 2d20 mechanic dogshit? Am I better off using one of the many Fallout homebrews or something like Exodus or Ashes Without Number?

It's quick to calculate and remember while being very granular, gives weapons a maximum range (beyond certain distance the penalty is too big for anyone to hit as there's no auto-hitting crits), makes distance the most signifcant factor unless you're a crack shot, and the overall preferred distances for weapons seem to line up reasonably enough to not break the suspension of disbelief.
Basically I want autistic but quick and it seems to fit the bill, but the earliest I'll be able to playtest it with my group will be in April or something.
>>
>>97212689
You've listed me the features of your ruleset.
I asked what's the gain of having them, other than "It forces people to measure every 30 cm of distance".
>autistic but quick
Pick one

Also, if you are play-testing, DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, try it on people you know and/or played with. It defeats the whole fucking point of playtests.

>Also, if you are play-testing, DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, try it on people you know and/or played with. It defeats the whole fucking point of playtests.
Probably good advice, but as I stated in the very first post it's a personal system as in for personal use, I don't intend to "publish" it. If it turns out to be not-shit in my own group's experience I might share it with other anons.
>I asked what's the gain of having them, other than "It forces people to measure every 30 cm of distance".
Nowadays I play on VTT so it's a non-issue, and even irl it wouldn't be an issue really since you can just take a ruler. Spaces/hexes are in 5 ft. increments anyway, and the system is flexible enough that you can decide on an arbitrary increment really, or just eyeball it (but I bet the players would never accept "about 100 ft." if there's a chance that the enemy is only 95 feet away).

If you have ideas/suggestions for how to reach the design goals I mentioned before I'm all ears, I'm not fully satisfied with my solution anyway.
One other important goal I forgot to mention though was retaining a feeling similar to F1/F2/FT games in ranged combat.

The marauders, though formidable, were fewer than expected. Unbeknownst to their opponents, Howler's elite sharpshooters, seasoned in many battles, including those from Lancel's homeland, lay concealed in the forest, poised to target the enemy's leaders and break their morale. And with them, several crossbowmen waited for their cue. The battle was about to erupt.

Meanwhile, Howler faced an internal struggle. His human self felt an inexplicable pull to obey a mysterious white entity, while his beast within raged against this compliance. Paralyzed by this conflict, he could only gaze at the enigmatic form.

What are your experiences with in-game moral and ethical dilemmas and players saying, "At the climax of our journey, we turn around and leave"?

I feel as though a lot of GMs' attempts at in-game moral and ethical dilemmas are unwittingly sabotaged by adventure inertia and players' desire to avoid saying, "At the climax of our journey, we turn around and leave."

The way I usually see it structured, a bunch of antagonists stir up trouble. The PCs agree to help the locals. The party investigates some dangerous place or situation. Then, at the very end of the adventure, the PCs see that the antagonists have some vaguely justifiable reason for causing trouble.

The above structure is perfectly fine (and indeed, I have used it many times myself as a GM), but where things get janky is when the antagonists sincerely plea for the PCs to just turn around and leave, and the GM earnestly expects this to be an option that should be seriously taken into consideration.

I have never, ever seen this happen, for understandable reasons. Very, very few players want to say, "At the climax of our journey, we turn around and leave." It is much more common for the players and their PCs either work out a compromise with major concessions from the antagonists, beat up the antagonists, or both (i.e. beat up, restrain, work out compromise and major concessions from position of power).

>What are your experiences with in-game moral and ethical dilemmas and players saying, "At the climax of our journey, we turn around and leave"?
Here is the problem. You're presenting with the options of:
1. Continue to play the game
2. End the game early with an unsatisfactory ending. Also arguably undo all their progress

Let's ignore that most people playing D&D don't really come here to deal with your philosophy and ethics 101 moral dilemmas.

What you want to do is give them two (or more) options that allow the story to still keep going. Or if it's the end of the story - to choose how it ends. But the key to both of those it that it needs to be satisfying.

And this is the problem with the "we turn around and leave" idea. Leaving is giving up. It's quitting. And your players didn't show up to quit. So think of a solution that's not "okay we quit" because that's never going to be the choice they make.

Here's the secret to chess. The previous move is the biggest clue to find the best move. Chess positions don't change that much move to move. Focus on the changes the last move made, which new squares are now under attack and which squares are no longer attacked. Remembering and keeping track of what has already happened, will give you foresight into the future.

Are you aware that MESBG is in a different scale from WFB?
>>
>>97212901
>>97213718
The lotr range is a different scale due to some copyright thing were the Tolkien estate gave GW the green light to create minis, but it had to be a different scale to make it stand out from regular warhammer.
>>
>>97213727
that's not really the reason. the mesbg stuff was always sculpted with more realistic proportions like historicals, but they used to be the same height as WHFB and 40k. it's just the mesbg stuff stayed the same size while the mainline games got scale crept to hell.

As a ST would you allow your changeling player (technically me) to pick some merit(s) from Mage the Ascension?

I’m considering Immunity at 4: A major threat (disease, hunger, supernatural evil gook) or a moderately rare threat (poisons, extreme heat or cold, raw magic Levin bolts, death spells.).

In this case it would be banality. Or the effects the Mists has on the changeling. I would also consider the two points version to grant an immunity to Bedlam.

Also Long-Lived/Unaging.

>>
>>97213500
>It would be Banality or the Mists
I think this is probably too much for the Merit. It would be like making a Mage completely immune to Paradox as a setting equivalent. No ST would allow that because when you're just playing a superhero with no downside and no story threats to prevent you from going something like
>I walk into the office building, I chat with him about the economy, and then I make him schizo out and imagine the economy runs on Bananas and Kiwis

Immunity up to 3 points yes, so long as it fit with your Fae seeming.
You are not immune to banality and changelings have a long-lived merit already. You cannot be immune to banality, part of you is MADE from it.

Christmas came early.

Of tonight’s many surprises, the first were the many questions the Prince of Bridgeport had for my new childe, Scarlet. I didn’t expect such a curiosity for the “art” of extreme metal from that person. Since her presentation took longer than I had planned, I took the liberty to request a very close inspection of the Prince’s official seal, to save ourselves the embarrassment of mistaking a counterfeit for the original.

Once I brought my redhead back to our mansion, The Chimneys, together with Mercury Lamp, my little doll who makes dolls, we got out of the McLaren only to be assaulted by these LOUD, bone-shattering sounds:
https://vocaroo.com/1gzqlgo2q2n7
I asked Scarlet what that was, she said: “Saint Vitus.”

I rushed inside, but instead of a coherent explanation, I found the next surprise: a completely unrecognisable family of childer.

Assoluta, our opera singer, making the entrance hall tremble with a V-shaped electric guitar. Her little sister Blue Fairy, my Wasian martial artist at the drums, used to hit things really fast. More recognisable was Boy Toy, my philosopher-operative and #1 slave, kneeling and wearing naught but a collar and a pair of boxers, but even he acted out of character, as he didn’t deliver the promised cigarettes, but handed Scarlet her electric bass. But the worst offender was uncle The Devil Wears Me, my personal stylist, now in blue jeans, a bandanna and a black T-shirt with ripped-off sleeves, in front of a microphone stand.

Thus began the performance:

“Echoes of screaming

>>
>>97213807
She was right. Assoluta transfixed Scarlet twice. First with the fast and complex guitar solo at the end of The Bleeding Ground, and again when Scarlet erroneously thought the instrument was one of tonight’s many presents for her. “No, bitch! This Schechter is mine!”, yelled the older sister. Since when does my prima donna like distortion? Fuzz? Heavy metal?!

To awaken Scarlet from the double metalgasm, Boy Toy would take her outside to let her smoke in a bespoke, long 1920s-style cigarette holder with the help of a matching new luxury lighter, the first gifts she demanded. Meanwhile Blue Fairy crudely threw Mercury Lamp with the other dolls in her room, the latter was still headbanging until she could happily open her many presents with her tiny hands.

Since Blue Fairy failed to oversee Scarlet’s actions when she was a mortal, and Boy Toy failed to execute her when ordered to, and my patience kept running thinner and thinner, I asked if what I had just witnessed was their grand strategy to get me to forgive them.

“No!”, four childer answered in unison.

Boy Toy rolled a red carpet, Princess Charming summoned my staff to fix my makeup, our “band” left to get a change of clothes. Uncle The Devil Wears Me, evidently unperturbed by his impaired gait, came back decently dressed, while Princess Charming returned with a full-length mirror on wheels, covered in a dark cloth. More staff came to watch, followed by the blood dolls we feed on regularly.

Evidently I found myself as the spectator- nay, the protagonist, of a well-rehearsed comedy, and the only way out of it was through. I tossed my long mink coat onto my touch-starved Boy Toy, desperate to smell my bespoke perfume again, closed my eyes and had my makeup taken care of.

With extreme care, they replaced my mink with a heavier fur coat. The same speakers used for the performance blasted the Overture from Bizet’s Carmen:
https://youtu.be/pmuFOuh3QHs
>>
>>97213817
I opened my eyes. In my left hand was a chain connected to Boy Toy’s collar, whose lips were on my foot. My right hand was holding an elephant hide flogger that even he fears, and Blue Fairy, in a finished white lion’s mane coat over her signature white latex outfit, was kissing me on this hand. Behind me was my tallest childe, Assoluta, whose snow leopard coat matched her grey eyes, kissing my neck. The army of staff mixed with the herd bombarded me with camera flashes like Hollywood paparazzi.

The veil was lifted over the mirror. All over my body was the coat of my dreams, made of eight pelts of the majestic Amur leopard, rarest among the big cats, and with guard hair as long as three inches - every single one of which looks better on me, if I dare say so myself.

In an instant, I snarled at Assoluta, punted Boy Toy, who had just taken his collar off somehow, and I whipped the air around Blue Fairy, who artfully dodged the flogger with a cartwheel. The trio retreated. Only my image, yes, the image of the fairest of them all, is allowed to be reflected on that mirror.

When was the last time I wanted to fuck the lady inside the mirror so bad? It’s been over a hundred years, I’m sure. Aaaahh~ Is this how Narcissus felt? Even now I’m typing with one hand. Ooohhhn~ Gorgeous, the absolute perfection! Yessss~ Mmmmmh~

Then the mirror broke. So did the spell. Boy Toy and Blue Fairy finally told me what the plan was about: to save themselves from the wrath of the Venus in Furs, they needed a more magnificent, more sublime and more powerful Venus in Furs. In the end, they implored this new and upgraded Mother to give them a slap.

I wanted to know more about all their disadventures, and how they got their hands on the exotic pelts without my help, but that will have to wait. I gave the command to fix my makeup once more and prepare a party in honour the reunited, bigger family.

Play it straight. The genre's pool of published works is about 85% "subversions" with "plucky foid/groid protagonists fighting against The Oppressive System" which is why it dissolved into Tumblr Soup so quickly. You actually need at least one of the major colonial powers to be the unironic good guys totally justified in bringing Progress and Science and Basic Hygiene to the fuzzy-wuzzies. In an American setting this is incredibly easy to do by keeping the injuns the howling savages they were IRL and adding some neat alt-tech. In a British setting this is also incredibly easy to do by channeling your modern 21st century rage at the Pajeet Menace back at their ancestors and have Queen Victoria chastising her administrators for not suppressing them more effectively, or by looking at the fall of Rhodesia and South Africa to understand what those colonists were up against.

Ah but you can't do that either, because unless you turned them into societies of super-geniuses living in steampunk Wakandas and all the white cultures were backwards shitholes(afterall, without all the wealth and knowledge and people and heckin genius we STOLE from the poor wholesome chungus natives, we'd be NOTHING) the same people who'd shit on you for depicting colonialism would also throw a hissy about you depicting primitive people as, well, primitive. And even if you did the Native Wakanda vs Dimwit Luddite YTs, you better have at least 70% nignogs(and a token Amerindian) on your company's staff because otherwise you'll be "appropriating the culture of the oppressed" or whatever.

My point is there's no way to win, not until we go back to simply rejecting the premise that depiction and endorsement are synonymous, and also the premise that people of one culture aren't "allowed" to depict, draw from, or make comment upon another.

Top 40 results are in at the end of day one. Yeah we have exactly one new hero rising to the top, but the big three are still hot on her heels. Gravy's still a monster, Verdance is an elementalist and is inherently broken, there's a few Marios rolling around out there that was previously a top dog before gravy showed up. Very few guardians doing well at all, top most being Victor. Cope to the underclasses, glory to the overlords.

They effectively did. When they banned Naia they made rainbow painted pets obsolete.

Don't forget giving the Irish and Italians spots in state agencies (police and firefighters, respectively) to get them to stop doing gang activities during the 1930s

Still haven’t sourced the claim about the origin of Fenrisian settlers btw

Yeah I've been looking, but I don't have access to any physical copies of the old dexes, and going through non-OCR'd PDFs is a bitch.
It's highly likely it wasn't directly from a codex, but possibly an article or interview from some WD issue.
Anyway, if you go through 40k art showing Space Wolf character artwork, I'm 100% sure you're gonna see a monoculture pattern, until at least the mid 2000's when the sloppification, americanization and DEIfication begin creeping in with the inception of BL's Horus Heresy books and Dawn of War.

P.S. My last post in this thread before this one was >>97212991 (with my other ones being only >>97212851 and >>97212926 respectively) so I've no clue who you've been arguing with since then, but I didn't at any point argue against dark skinned wolves, I only argue for them being canonically being nordic phenotypically and never negroid, until 40k and GW went down the corporate toilet and their words and products stopped mattering

Anyway, I've said my pieces, and have nothing worthwhile to add further into any discussion (if we can call the current state of the thread anything of that sort), so I'm gonna go do something more productive with my evening.
Cheers

Can't do that now. Too much appropriation they say
