Fish edition

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e, BECMI, retroclones NSR and newer) are not OSR should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creator in its first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

You're never going to talk about 2nd ed. You've been given hundreds of opportunities and outright explanations of how to do so in a way that isn't obnoxious and you refuse to do so. All you do is shit and piss yourself, taking any excuse to perceive a conspiracy or slight and justifying your lying, shitting and pissing.

They got mixed up in a fight with some Deep Ones, their followers and some Migo. They feigned fish allegiance, took the treasure and ran.

>MECHANICALLY distinguish between different humanoids
All the different goblins, orcs, hobgoblins, elves and whatever already have different stats. At low level things like the humanoids having +1hp or a different hand weapon and tactical approach has made a notable difference. Reskinning is fairly intuitive to me at this point so rolling Bugbears and turning them into picts or sewer mutants or anything big but stealthy works well.
Giving them battlefield objectives helps too.
>>
It's immediately noticeable that we have finally defeated fishfag, the pro-2e troll that has been force-merging and hijacking threads.

How do I know this? He is pretending to be somebody that is not him, and using our own tactics against us. But it will not work because he is a singular malfeasant pest. Ignore him, and remember:
2e is off-topic.
ACKS is based.
Slice of Life / downtime/beach episode sessions are not a bad thing or a bug!

By default 5e is more lenient about falling plus the deus vult types would pick oath of vengeance anyways making the line yet more blurred. Older editions (save 4e) are more captious in defining the paladin catches and they may offer better options for that archetype (eg: 3.x straight has the crusader class).

What's not irrelevant to quality is how the series gets shilled as being so high-brow and unique because it was written by an anthropologist or whatever and it turns out no different than any other high fantasy series with giant floating islands, over the top magic, nobody staying dead, white-haired badass guy with giant magic sword and goofy name and other stuff. I don't hate any of that but the series is misrepresented.

I was with you until you started behaving just like that Zoomer triggered by Lodoss.

Dungeon Meshi, Frieren, GS and even Konosuba are really good shows/Novels and just because you have a chip on your shoulder about Adventurer Guilds and Isekai doesn't make it less true you blithering troglodyte.

Konosuba is many ways similar to Slayers in that it lovingly pokes fun at Isekai-Tropes while Slayers poked fun at the Japanese Version of western fantasy.

Let me guess, you watched it back when you were young and all you wanted was "action, action, action" in your anime. You saw that it wasn't all "action, action, action" so you only remember it as boring.

Try watching it again now that you are an adult with a different perspective. You might actually realize it has a good story and an actual plot.

I'm also running Savage Tide for my kids (20-somethings) adapted to 5E and it's really good. Currently on Serpents of Scuttlecove (The Wreck). I'm building a 3D battlemat for that one right now and hope to finish it this weekend.

The campaign as written is pretty brutal, and I tend to be pretty forgiving since the players are not super experienced (and they're my daughters!). But when handled carefully, it's one heck of a ride. :)

Pretty boring planet. The monks truly have come here to be isolated from all worldly affairs. Roll (1d20) for unusual factions. Maybe the Peasants are up to something.
>>
"Blessed be the mind too small for doubt," the monks prayed, "for there shall be denial of his light." They were the monks of Saint Morgan and they prayed every day. They song his hymms, bringing the beauty of his sound to even the dry desert sands. "Be the fire in our heart," they chanted in unison as the desert sun blazed beyond. Igwe heard them as he knelt in prayer, spending his time in a cell where he was only given unsalted meat and water, the only contact he had with the supply train the Abbey sent.

But even here, with the Abbey in the distance, he could hear them. He was so isolated, the only thing that reminded him that he was human was the massive A/C system that kept his cell cool. "Blessed be the Ministorium, they who guide his flock." He prayed again, reflecting upon the fact that he only had to spend one more week in isolation before he was allowed to be initiated into the order. "Blessed be..." He took another sip of water before sitting back against the sandstone wall.

The Morganites came here to be free of the troubles befalling the greater Imperium. This planet had been gifted to the Ascetics following the Crusade some centuries ago. And it was perfect: the sands left little for the mind to wander. And the Ministry was content to sit in the Arctic cities, leaving the brethren to their vows of silence. The only temptations were brought by the many moons.

"Blessed be..." Igwe kept praying, uttering many more prayers. And he would utter even more after he was initiated. Then a century later, they would pray over his grave in one of the many tunnels carved by the hermits. A simple life was the ascetic path.

Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

>>
>>97194666
>don't make sense again as to why the nations didn't act sooner.
While Mike did do a lot of real research into history and technology to make his future have some grounding in reality. He also was trying to make a fun setting for TTRPG campaign frrst, not a realistic depiction of how the actual future would go.
>>
>>97181724
>Under that framework, I don't quite understand how the fuck the Fourth Corporate War got that bad though.
It didn't get "that bad" aside from Night City getting nuked.
Japan and America had some fighting and what essentially amounts to company funded terrorist attacks against the assets of the rival company but that's about it.
Most of the world didn't get directly affected by the 4th corporate war but cyberpunk lore has tunnel vision on Night City so obviously that place in particular looks like shit by the time of RED.
>>
>>97202869
It seems like Chicago, Hong Kong and Rio are completely fucked up by fighting, Busan has a bio-attack that kills thousands, and there are plenty of smaller engagements all over the world. CP: Red also says that they targeted shipping and logistics specifically, which is part of the reason why things are so fucked up as of the time of Red: between supply lines being fucked by the war and the data crash destroying the data of what shit was in which shipping container in which spot, no one knows where anything is anymore.

Definitely Night City got the brunt of it, but other shit was happening all over the world. I don't think it's outright stated, bit I imagine a lot of smaller corps used the chaos as an opportunity to grind various axes as well.
>>
>>97202465
I suppose? In 2077 the way Judy nonchalantly "mixed" BD's made it sound like you just had to tune the sensations correctly to make a (relatively) safe product.

I would figure abusing BDs or XBDs would have a negative effect. You're effectively flooding your brain with dopamine or other stimulating sensations, which over the long term would "fry" your brain the same way a chronic drinker or chem abuser might suffer. That's my interpretation anyway
There's also the virtu, which is explored more in 2077 where you join someone else inside a BD environment. In that case, I figure you could redo your avatar to be whatever you want. That way, even if you're a fat disgusting slob IRL, you could be cute shota or a masculine hunk of a guy in the virtu and feel that way despite being jabba the hut in meatspace. A similar concept was in Surrogates starring Bruce Willis (the movie is kinda dumb by today's standards, but it explored some interesting cyberpunk ideas)
This would also allow you (or a partner) to larp loli, woman, monster, or whatever your imagination could conceive.
>>97202803
>child abuse is still illegal in Night City.
Which I figured would be the case. As for
> fully legal BD called ''wet dream' which lets you be 'the dream or the dreamer'.
It looks kind of rapey with the cover art, but I'd need some more substantial evidence of what it entails before I say "you can buy legal rape/murder BD's as long as it's only simulated rape/murder." I'd reserve the XBD label for actual recordings of rape/murder that used 100% real rape and murder sensations for their sensation profile.
Arguably, whether BD or XBD, both could be tuned to be more or less intense for the viewer's pleasure, so I don't think any BD is going to give someone a pure translation of the original sensation that was recorded to create it.

Troika goes way too gonzo for my tastes. I like a classic medival aesthetic, but I stick to nusr because I'm drawn to rules light with just a dash of simulationism to escape feeling like a video game.
I feel really out of my element when someone hears im into OSR and starts sending me "Orcs are flying fluffballs who feed off of orgasmo energy and remove the concept of the color green from your mind on a 1d6" type shit. More Charms is kind of the last thing I want.
