Really? In this world where everyone has the calories to gain their peak size? Where labor is so niched that you have skills not 1:40 people have? That you have the damn near combined knowledge of humanity at your fingertips and can learn any minutia of knowledge within minutes, you don't think you'd be something in another world? Live a little, at least your fantasies.

This is a common misconception. There are a disproportionately large number of wizards on 4chan, but they still represent a small minority.

Which is best:
>Vampires are weak to crosses
>Vampires are weak to any holy symbol
>Vampires are not weak to holy stuff
>Vampires are repelled by perpendicular lines, which crosses happen to look like

Vampires are repelled by crosses, and physically damaged by the power of Christ at close range or in a sanctified space. Weaker vampires generally flee immediately but older ones are crafty enough to brazen it out and pretend it's not causing them any discomfort in an attempt to get the person holding the cross to discard it. Thus, faith becomes a factor against stronger bloodsuckers.

Box art is neat and elegant, components are still thin cardboard pieces and paperthin playersheets. Not that that would matter too much, but for €50 I'd expect something better

Going by exclusively it's initial release it was mediocre at best and very hostile to DMs (something even the designers admitted), tho it did work out as a reset after 4e which regardless of what your opinion about it (I personally liked it) was too much of a departure from what people were used to and would've likely worked out much better as a different product than a mainline edition. However as a line it's beyond garbage with so much of it's additional releases being exclusively adventure paths, barely any new worthwhile options for players (it's been 10 fucking years and we only had a single new class that isn't even on the 2024 book) and a lot of the new systems and optional rules are things other systems and older editions had it since day one. Honestly I think without the rise of live streaming and Critical Role starting less than a year after the original release 5e might've struggled considering how little it brings to the table especially for newbies, both players and DMs.

Lorewise they are so small and insignificant that they don't even enter the discussion of the balance of power in the galaxy or the future of it. Being stuck in the "if any of the major factions just put some energy into killing them, they would be fucked" forever keeps them as a minor irrelevant faction for mecha enthusiasts not worth discussing other than "Is their ideology sound or not" for the billionth time.

Palladium Games and Rifts General! /PGaRG/

The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. Demon & alien invaders have poured out of the rifts to destroy human civilization and claim the Earth. Now the wasteland has had 300 years to partially recover, and civilization has returned to the world; but not just human civilization: alien empires, monster kingdoms, lost time travellers, lands of mutants, demonic overlords and wizards have arisen from the ashes, all trying to rebuild the world in their own image!

RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, super-nazis, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!

Plus other Palladium Games about superheroes, zombies, classic fantasy, supernaturals investigation and more.

Talk about:
>RIFTS(tm)
>Heroes Unlimited
>Palladium Fantasy
>Beyond the Supernatural
>Dead Reign
>Robotech (lol)

>How do you do it?
1. Convince them to disregard any preconceived notion about the system, whatever they've read is wrong
2. If they're mechanically oriented give them a combat rundown of a SAMAS Vs. Glitter Boy scenario starting at 3km
3. If they're roleplay/social oriented explain the CS Dog Boy and ISS-Citizen dynamic.

Well you're right, the system IS clunky as hell, but the best way to introduce people is to show them the world (preferably Rifts Earth, but Splicers or Heroes Unlimited is good too) and let them make characters. When they see how many cool options there are to play they'll get invested.

The system... use it sparingly and ignore large chunks of it for best effect.

>They want the world to bend to their will,
This. It's more about aesthetics than you might think. The world should present as gritty and unforgiving, the character should be an anti-hero mercenary who's studying hema-style sword treatises, not anime powers, like Bronn or the Mountain in game of thrones and it should appear as though they are constantly in mortal danger and just barely manage to manage to stay alive where random brigands could take them down with a lucky swing. But just how the authors of those stories wrote that they should survive, the player wants to actually be guaranteed to succeed and dunk on others like in those shows, they don't actually want an osr dungeoncrawl where they actually had to roll to survive the 50/50 death pit. They just want the narrative of "Wow they really could have died there" when th dm in reality never put that in that real situation mechanics-wise.

At least that's how it was when I ran for two dudes who loved GoT and played stuff like Mount and blade (which by the way has the same dynamic, presents as gritty and lethal, but when you get good at it you're basically a one man machine mowing down armies)
>>
>>96493857
that must be pretty sad since you have no games and can't fulfill either fantasy :/
>>
>>96493857
The solution is yet again to be found in Tolkien.
Even a nobody can get tangled up in the larger machinations of the world.
But have some patience
My players started out as regulars at a bar for former soldiers
They did get tangled up with relevant characters but as pawns at first.
Now 6 IRL years later they’re movers and shakers, they fought alongside kings and the pope and their council of respected, they inherit positions of important orders and are tangled up in the world and its inhabitants
Never once were they super special beyond what they made of themselves.
And no this is not a super grimdark Mudcore campaign.
They just wrote their own high fantasy saga rather than inheriting a role

I can't really go a few pages without finding a sorcery spell intended to be used as a weapon, a curse, an illusion meant to deceive, etc.
>>
>>96498396
As a reminder, 100% of Void Circle necromancy spells are written by Deathlords, 90% of Labyrinth Circle necromancy spells are written by Deathlords and 90% of the rest are written by First Age Solars high on the Great Curse crazy enough to undergo necromantic initiation despite their very comfortable life, with only a very small fraction being written by hekatonkhire, nephwracks, and young First Age Solars who, again, would've been crazy enough to go necromancy despite already having very comfortable lives.

Of the shadowlands circle necromancy a large portion is likely going to have been made by the Deathlords, because their is no salinan working equivalent for necromancy. You need direct tutoring and empowerment to get into it, and most of that comes from the established and exceptionally evil great powers of the Underworld who would prefer the power of necromancy be kept firmly under their control, since it's pretty specialized in fucking over and controlling their own forces.

Necromancy doesn't need to be fundamentally evil when necromancers have historically been bad enough to explain the spell list's bias.

I'm only a hobbyist level Romaboo, but I tend to avoid secondary sources like the plague. Everyone has an agenda (even the primary sources typically do, but at least that's only one agenda you have to account for, not two or three). I mostly study Greco-Roman theology and mythology as part of my comparative studies (I'm really more of a holistic Euroboo) and for RPG inspiration, so that's your Homer, Hesiod, Ovid and Apollodorus and their sort. Herodotus is a really good source of inspiration to populate a sword and sandal RPG setting, since he describes all sorts of less well known ethnic groups. For specifics on Roman history, I think Livy is considered the go-to guy, but I could be wrong. For opinions on western European barbarians, Caesar, Tacitus and the anything on the Cimbrian War comes to mind.

If you're a visual sort of guy, then the Osprey books are the ones with the consistently most appealing illustrations I've found. Nothing beats a trip to the museum and glyptotheque though.

Hope this helps, and don't hesitate to ask any questions. Maybe Romaboos of higher power levels can also add their two sesterces.

Sorry anon, didn't notice this until today.

Good GM's are typically fairly comprehensive in their posts. It goes without saying that the more detail the better. Who they're looking for, what the setting is, background. Whatever. It's usually a waste of time to try your luck on someone who could only muster maybe two paragraphs at best.

Unless the pitch was very solid I ignored most posts that didn't have a google form. If they rely solely on comments or direct messages the GM is probably going off of a first come first serve basis and it's a big waste of time. Also if there's a form, there's usually even more detail on how things are going to be in it.

That's kind of it for me honestly. Since this isn't 5E there's thankfully a lot less trash to sift through because people tend to (but not always) care more about the game and how it's run.

It will take time and you still have to be kind of lucky, but I hope you get into a game that's fun for you eventually.

/tg/, I'm designing a campaign for my group.
The campaign consists from three acts. As a whole, they cover levels from 1 to 20.
What happens in the first act is immaterial for this thread.
In the very beginning of the second act, however, they will meet the big villain of the campaign, who decides that they're going to be a threat to his master plan and immediately kills them all right at the end of a gruelling dungeon. The player characters then go to Valhalla, meet not!Odin and then return to life with a divine quest.
Half of the second act will involve fulfilling this quest to pay not!Odin back for their resurrection. The other half involves revenge against the villain.

Now, obviously if they just reveal themselves, they'd just be killed again. So they'll be gently suggested to assume false identities and infiltrate the villain's massive army of mercenaries in order to foil his plan from the inside. By the end of the act, the villain's army will be gone, his personal power extinguished, and then he'll die as the final boss of the act.
That's the idea. However, I keep thinking about how it'll actually go. I have 7-9 dungeons in mind for the second act. That is a lot of sessions spent under secret identities, while everyone believes that they're dead. While the undercover arc could potentially be interesting, I'm also seeing the potential for it to be very exhausting to actually go through.

Should I just pre-emptively cut the "undercover" part to just 1 or 2 dungeons? It's going to be pretty difficult to change them on the fly, if I see that this story is not working.

Do cognitive assessment to help identify learning disabilities or disabilities and preserved areas of function following brain injury and so on, offer neuropsychological rehabilitation, help with diagnosing psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders, offer treatment for depression, anxiety and such, advice schools and families on how to take into account children's special needs, stuff like that. Depends on where the psychologist in question works, it's a pretty varied field.

Not necessarily people with a bachelor's degree in psychology, mind you, but licensed clinical psychologists don't have to struggle with employment.
