>FUCK I forgot to LINK IT FUCKING KILL ME
...At this point, I feel like you should seriously consider getting an add-on like 4chanX if you haven't already. (Among other things) it makes it so that you open up a reply box by clicking on a post's number, which then automatically puts the link to that post in for you. Maybe it'd help you form a habit where you stop doing that.
>>
>>96801048
I thought 4chan just did that by default? In any case it's just that I always forget in the moment. It's like missing an item from the shopping list, even if you wrote it down.

Trying to design, and failing miserably, to design button inputs for my character if he were in a fighting game because my autism demands it before I update. I think making him as if he were in a fighting game and designing actual movesets for him will make him cooler. Fuck you, Itsuki, why did I become so invested in writing you?
>>
>>96801158
Work backwards from the more general moves. Do supers, then the simple mechanics, THEN do every input. Chisel away at the stone. S'what I always do, that way if I get too tired with it I can quit at a stage that was easy enough to do and still looks good.

I actually think marinewank, to a certain extent, is completely reasonable. They're supposed to be near the best of the best of what humanity can create, fighting for centuries, with a creation process that has an ultra low survival rate and requires a fuckzillion man hours of effort and mountains of resources, they're so rare relative to the size of the setting some places regard them as myths, a single company is supposed to be enough to pacify a whole fucking planet, etc.
Going through the insane amount of effort it takes to create, arm, and deploy a space marine just for them to regularly get bodied by a random nob or a pack of cultists with looted bolters is too retarded and unbelievable even for warhammer.
That being said I still think they get way too much attention over the other factions, which is something I'm sure we can all agree on.

They should, after some resistance, still get bodied by those things when they engage them in a stand-up fair fight.

They don't pacify planets by doing a grinding gigathermopolae against 50 million soldiers. They accomplish it through precision strikes and intel. That's the only way to make it make sense. Unfortunately the books rarely do the work to depict that, and just show Marines doing slugfests in town squares or whatever.

This general encompasses all board game genres - Eurogames, Ameritrash, Ameritreasure, Fillers, Party, Abstracts, Wargames, and especially the game that one anon is autistic about at this very moment.

TQs:
- Which games have you pnp'd, and why(OOP, didn't like the stock version, etc.)
- What's a game that works at any player count?
- What's your favorite gateway game to get people hooked

I’ve been using the Greek and/or Norse gods in my own campaign settings, but I want to start making my own deities and pantheons going forward, if you have any advice, I’d love to hear it please. Same for anything you’re willing to say about your own gods and goddesses, or any art of gods or related entities like angels.

Do you guys let your players interact with gods? Or are they like the Greek pantheon and make little speeches before doing crazy shit and fucking off?

how come in fantasy MMOs and RPGs you can play as elfs, dwarfs, gnomes, goblins but not fairies? as far as i know there's not a single game where you can roleplay as a fairy, which is ironic because fairies and elfs are basically the same according to european folklore

Everywhere I've looked people only want to run asynchronous play-by-post. Games advertised as live text get a dearth of responses compared to PbP and voice. Players even feel entitled to tell you they've lost interest because it's not one of those formats.

Was there some revolution I slept on? Years ago you used to be able to find something. Now an entire summer went by without a single game showing up.

God damn it feels like this whole hobby died out of nowhere.

Ads don't work. Engagement does.

I've had ads up for my IRL game before and a month passed by with zero takers. Meanwhile me mentioning the game, despite the ads up on the local discord, as well as physical ads in the FLGS in plain sight were not seen. People don't seek things out, you have to bring it to them. A lot of the time this means you have to be the GM.

And yes, I know you specified "live text games", the same applies. I've seen two ads for live text games in the circles I frequent in the past month. You just need to look and keep your ear to the ground, it might take time and effort.

The structures cover a lot more cases than you'd likely be comfortable with, since a LOT of stories have crazy-broad scaling in buckets separated for rarely-explained reasons.

I believe it could be used to stress-test ground covered by core resolution mechanics before fine-tuning with content bulk, and when taken seriously likely serves as reasonable practice with settling for concise writing instead of spiraling off into conditionals. Might also be fun to try designing a roster of them in a complementary fashion for a rulebook where every page is a distinct subsystem.

I have two issues with this. First, most of these highly repetitive, using one of half a dozen recycled mechanics and not something novel to be discovered and explore. Second, almost no OPR gives you enough to actually give differentiation between PCs' chances of success nor a way to scale the difficulty of one challenge from another.
From this perspective, the entire mechanic becomes useless making the game less valuable than the hard drive space it takes up.

d20+stat mod vs Target Number/DC does, but classes and feats and spells and combat treadmill shit does not. It's like the age old problem of people trying to stat superheroes in D&D and trying to claim that Batman is a combo fighter/rogue/ranger/ninja/paladin with a few divine levels and so on.

Which is why we have Mutants and Masterminds, which throws 90% of the core D&Disms out, and doesn't attempt to be anything like D&D while still using basic d20 system mechanics at its core. It's understandable to a D&D player, but it is not using the D&D framework and sacred cows.

I'm honestly baffled as to why people approach mecha as a genre that should be war-gamey, considering the actual anime behind it.

Sure it has weapons, you could theoretically run a crunchy simulation of those. But there are weapons in tragedies and sword and sandals movies as well.
>>
>>96800763
The reason is that mecha, especially /m/ types have just as much if not more so an obsession with the technical side of the mechs as they do with the actual series characters and plots, and that gearhead autistic mindset also resonates heavily with military nerds.
There is a reason every guy who makes mecha without watch any mech beforehand says "this show is about the characters not the mechs" and its because the mecha community on averaged cares more about the mechs than the characters even if the media is about said characters.

A flowing cape made out of a nano-machine swarm produced by the mecha. The nano-machine swarm cape is utilized for attack and defense as well as rapid repair and unit and building production. For example, to clear a building of enemy combatants while on the move
>an array of spikes is formed from the cape with the wave of a hand, piercing into the building
>the parts of the spikes inside the building reform into autonomous drone soldiers that immediately engage the enemy and move to clear the building

An internal super-pressure generator. Same mecha, this is its main function without the nano-machine cape active. Essentially the entire mecha is one big engine/generator (which is otherwise used to produce the nano-machines) and has holes on its arms, that are capable of ejecting high internal pressure created by the generator for focused ranged attacks, boosted hand-to-hand attacks and extreme rapid movement. In addition the holes are arrayed in such a way, that if the mecha were to cross its arms, they would be overlaid, creating closed pressure circulation that gets stronger over time and is concluded by the mecha lifting one arm, pushing its hand forward and flattening everything in a wide area in front of it.

Doesn't matter, but the mecha's head has the design of a classic knight's closed helmet visor while the cape is inert, but once it activates the individual "bars" of the visor push up through the top, revealing the mecha's face and forming a crown.

Indirect weapons usually just suck ass in tabletop games because they get to ignore half the mechanics. An attack that potentially hits anywhere from offboard diminishes the value of movement and scouting and has little reasonable counterplay.
Forcing units on the board to carry mortar launchers is usually better even if it fudges the scale because then you can at least attack whoever is firing it.

Showing my age a little, but curious about something on a meta level.
Have you guys found that newer players are less and less interested and invested in their dudes?
It's anecdotal, but I've been farting around with wargames for over a decade now and even over the past 3 years I've seen fewer and fewer players at my FLGS even bothering with campaigns or narrative at all. If we're lucky you'll get someone who will rant about how sick Kriegers are or some such - IE "my craftworld / regiment / chapter / legion is best" - but almost nome name their heroes or have any made up history.
When I first got into 40k, for example, my friends and I went out of our way NOT to include named heroes just so that our little plastic badasses could feel like their stories and rivalries weren't footnotes.
Now I see lots of players who see their unnamed HQs as unit upgrades and little else.
Curious what you've seen in your experiences. Is it just me? My FLGS? I genuinely can't tell.
