A thread for everything Dragons. What is the best kind of Dragons for a game. Just the standard, firebreathing scally Dragon? Or is it better for a game to give your players variety?
>>97815414Because it is the common thing. And thats just a common cultural exchange. Happend within Europe too. So did China with Korea and Japan. But Yamata no Orochi is an interesting dragon. Thanks for that info.
>>97705547I found the writing to be lackluster. It reads like a Disney Channel original series with simpleton characters and villains too comically villainous to be taken very seriously. I like dragons, but I wasn't willing to go past the first book. Things may improve after that, but I don't feel like I'm missing out.
>>97812205>>97812672>>97813749Other dragons are a given. I was thinking more in terms of empires, civilizations. Masses of creatures that can exist as long as dragons and rival them in power in their own way, not necessarily being significantly supernatural.Guess I'm trying to write a huge adult dragon as I would an adventurer: what kind of rivals, challenges and quests can he face without it being a straightforward high power magical creature or heroic character. As well as not escalating into all out war with armies.Like giants are pretty good for that. Fae or high power magical creatures seem too wild, momentary challenges.Sentient gryphons or harpy civs perhaps?
>>97817879Ok, not neccessary an adversary or opponent. Something i can see are Dragon hunters (Knight Order or barbarians)Harpies are good. I wouldnt make them civ but like a bird flock. Dragon (Eagle) vs Harpies (Crows).Sphinxes or Chimeras are not that magically. They can just act like special animals.Just like unicorns.
>>97816210Thats just a title given. There are no Dragons in 40k. Hydra tanks are not really a reptile!

Anyone who knows Battlefleet Gothic really well, I saw this ship in Battlefleet Gothic Expanded Revised. It seems to be a kitbash of Karrad Vall's ship from the Rogue Trader RPG mixed with a chaos Carnage-class Cruiser, but I can't identify the piece they used for the prow. Which ship has that prow? Any suggestions for systems built for urban fantasy settings? I know there's World of Darkness but I'm looking for something that is more combat focused and less story telling. Monster of the Week has been suggested to me but I'm just not a big fan of PBTA, the systems just don't feel like a game to me as bullshit as that sounds.

I steal a lot of ideas and plot points from TV shows and books. My players are normalfags that don't consume anything that isn't current and popular, so they don't know how much I steal. The few times they actually caught on, they were fine with it.I'm just worried I am creating a bad habit. I have tons of original ideas as well, but I'm very demotivated, since a lot of adventures fell through for one reason or another and I had to come up with brand new concepts every time, so I have been stealing a lot more recently.
>>97818389In the case of OC, "original" is relative, not objective.Unfortunately, the way OP framed his topic heavily insinuates an objective originality, which is inherently impossible.

>>97818465Anon, I know you're illiterate, but re-read the title of the thread. Just because this isn't some pointless argument about the definition of Railroading or rules autism doesn't mean it isn't related to Traditional Games. They explicitly discuss the topic in relation to their own games in the first post.Even if we do discuss mechanics, they've all been done before. There is no such thing as an original mechanic. Everything, in some form, has been done before.
>>97817067Originality is a spook
>mimimi, humans don't have their own feature, mimimi, we have to invent somethingNecromancy right here. When was the last time you saw non-human necromancer, lich or vampire? That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. So yes, here is your feature humans - necromancy, you know that I am right, you can't run away from the truth forever.

>>97818425And none of the above is relevant. Thanks for proving my point yet again.

Jolly good time>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. >>97818298They literally made vat-grown werewolf mutants in 2020, on the Forlorn Hope adventure splatbook.Mutant abominations are not unheard of in other cyberpunk works, like the Transgenic creatures from Deus Ex
>>97819246Well that blows
>>97819505Anon's talking out his ass. There is therapy accessible in 2020 without having to go psycho and get detained, it's in the Registered Cybers section on page 74.Registration is sort of like parole; you agree to see a cyberpsychologist for monitoring and analysis (regaining 2 points of HC per week until your original EMP is restored), and the squad implants a small transmitter into your cyberwear, allowing them to know your general whereabouts. just in case. The police don't hassle you and the Squad doesn't automatically gun you down with 20mm cannon rounds if you boost a pack of Smash from the corner vend-mat.
My only gripe about the dinosaur dlc is>Biotechnica does average Biotechnica thing>its not canon teehee xDwhatdid James forgot about 2020?And I barely seen any marketing for Shadow Scar, I only knew about the existence when the halloween dlcs dropped last year. That Pondsmith's art is nice, but its fucking grim when none of Mike's kids wants to work on cyberpunk on any form.I sort of get it, bunch of cyberpunk shit nails down reality in the future but I think they forgot they're running a corporation and whatever little staff members they have are running on fumes with all that random work>multiversal secret agency, i thinkgood on him but im not playing that, would rather play a regular mib that protects one world that counts, earth

>>97801204>>97801222>Online critique is terrible>>97803209>critisism is just one of those things that everybody thinks they can do but nobody does well.>>97801276>>97801513>>97806335>>97805802Critiquing is a skill as is taking a critique. It must be learned and developed. Most people simply talk about what they like or dislike, which is largely separate and independent of an actual critique.A critique examines what something is and how well it achieves its intent. For example, I agree with the positive critiques of A Clockwork Orange but I personally don't like it.
>>97819192>Most people simply talk about what they like or dislike, which is largely separate and independent of an actual critique.not on the internet it isn't, you better be ready with a twelve paragraph lecture on why you don't like the thing or you're just trolling and should be banned for such sacrilege.
>>97819614I'm not exactly sure what your point is.But even if the internet acts like a banana is a meat byproduct, that doesn't change the truth of it. And that it's a berry.
Is there ANY miniature wargame that isn't insanely expensive? I'm talking about things you can buy in a box and play immediately, not "print your own minis" bullshit or things where you're forced to use proxies cause official models don't exist.
>>97816576Oh no, at 10,000 you would never be able to bring more than a Star. A Kit Fox with a green pilot (3/4) is something in the range of 1500. Five Kit Foxes will of course effortlessly crush a Freebirth assault lance, but this is to my point: Not a whole lot of miniatures. Elementals, maybe, you could round it out with Elementals.
>>97817200They demonstrably aren't technogically stagnant and that's evident in how their model kits have changed over time. Also "technology" isn't a magic incantation that can be invoked to resolve problems arbitrarily, their issues are that their existing infrastructure was scaled for a much smaller market, but the market massively expanded in the last 10 years, the fix for that is not mystical "technology" its scaling up production to meet demand, that means buying more or renting more warehouse space, buying more injection molding machines and building new factories, which they have been doing.A subset of their supply issues that actually dies relate to technology are metal and resin models. When Horus Heresy second edition came out various resin units were out of stock for 6+ months because resin casting is extremely time and labor intensive, similarly about 2 months after TOW came out GW put up a shitload of job postings for metal and resin casters, the increase in demand for resin and metal models that had previously been mostly the purview of games like necromunda and MESBG caused those games to have half their resin/metal ranges become unavailable. What are they doing to resolve this problem? Remaking models from those ranges as plastic kits, because its cheaper and faster. Why did they not do that sooner? Previously the sales of the kits in those materials wouldn't have justified the cost of making them in plastic. The whole issue is just that they need capacity Also we know what it would look like if bandai made warhammer because they made warhammer.
>>97810757I agree that Battletech is an obvious answer. Technically any small skirmish game works too, even GW ones. Yes 50 euros/dollars whatever for a kill team is expensive for what it is, but you have all the models you need to play the game at that point. Even if you go for the starter set its like 80 for everything you'll ever need to play and 2 teams to play with. Historicals are almost always very cheap per model, even the highest quality ones. Very common to get anywhere from 25 to 40 in a box for like 60 or 70 percent the price of a typical warhammer kit, despite the fact that that warhammer set will only have 10 models if you're lucky, maybe as little as 3. But the issue is you often need a large number of them so its not as much of a budget option as it might initially seem. Still though you can get a full bolt action army for a fraction of what a 40K one costs.
>>97810757What is 'insanely expensive'? AoS / 40k both have game modes meant to play just a starter box at 150$ / 170$. Tremch Crusade sells physical models and a plastic Prussian warband is like 50$.
>>97814849You forgot one factor. Both the Beginner Box and Essentials comes with a paper code that gives you $20 for free for their store. It's only a one time thing so you can't repeat it or even get one from the other box, but that free $20 makes the beginner box a far better deal.>>97817532They've already revealed the changes and its functionally some stuff getting moved up to Advanced, some stuff moving down to Standard, a couple things getting errata'd.
