>>97184465>Truth. Some Vigil compacts are so different in approach and philosophy that they can end up in direct conflict with each other.Case in point, let's talk vampires since that's what sparked the discussion.>Taskforce: Valkyrie wants to do the usual glownigger thing of keeping the status quo and the normies blind and deaf>Cheiron wants to harvest vampires to print money selling combat performance enhancers to NATO>Malleus Malleficarium wants them immolated with extreme prejudice except the few that get smuggled to the Vatican so their leader can continue living>The Lucifuge wants to police them and curb their worst excesses as well as stamp out the ones that consort with Strix or denizens of Hell>The Cainite Heresy wants to enact TVD right here and now, fuck the consequencesThat's just a handful of hunter groups, and only one isn't from core.

Vista edition>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content. You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.>Cyberpunk Rulesets (The Vault) (May not have all updated rulebooks, check official sources for updates):bit<dot>ly/2Y1w4Md>Resources for RED:https://datapool2045.net/Comment too long. >>97181724Mike, Talsorian and CDPR deliberately left gaps in the lore to give players some leeway if they want to make a campaign about the corporate wars.
>>97181724Corporations in Cyberpunk use influence, economic manipulation and blackmail to get what they want. National governments can still lay down the law if things get out of hand, assuming they have the power to do so, but they're usually being made to look the other way. That's why Medias are such a big deal: they can expose the horrible shit the corps are doing behind the scenes and force the authorities to act through making what been going on undeniable.>I don't quite understand how the fuck the Fourth Corporate War got that bad though.Militech and Arasaka got away with amassing small armies for themselves under the pretense of being involved in the private security/military contractor business. They also had the backing of their respective governments. With that in mind, it's important to remember that the Fourth Corporate War didn't immediately erupt into open conflict. It was a gradual build-up of force as both sides pushed the limits of what they could get away with. Funnily enough, it was during the Hot War that world governments began cracking down.>Europe should have been dropping rocks. The Highriders staged a coup up in orbit and began dropping rocks themselves.
>>97179929sounds like an extra layer of potential roleplay. maybe counterbalance the increased visibility with some expat communities they'll have an easier time making contacts in.
>>97183699>ational governments can still lay down the law if things get out of handNotably, this is what happened in the Cybergeneration branch of the timeline: The Carbon Plague and corporate warfare weakened the megacorps enough that the US government was able to reassert itself.

Sup /tg/, wanna talk about Slavic, Steppe, and Siberian myth in TTRPGs. There's so much cool shit, from Cornflower Wraith to Bolotnik to the Hungry Ghosts. But it feels like this stuff is barely explored. What are some good resources as reading for my setting?
>>97184591Sure. I found a splendid module called Where The Wheat Grows Tall based around Noonwraith and other spirits seeking vengeance.
>>97184600>where the wheat grows tall Hey I have that one. Looked neat, the art and characterization has solid witch and spirit stuff but I find the wrap up or goal of the adventure a bit too vague. There's not enough treasure for an osr sort of adventure, there's not enough clear resolvables for a storygame adventure. I've found Osprey magazine's different bits about warriors, conflicts and eras to be useful as an overview of a historical period. Not always the best historical research, but fast to read, decent maps and pictures and easy to use.
The entire Hill Cantons series, less Misty Isles of the Eld but ymmv on that one, are aimed at eastern euro weird fantasy. I rather like them but haven't had players express as much interest in that area of the world so we haven't used them. Slumbering Ursine Dunes is a pointcrawl, Fever Dreaming Marlinko is a city and What Ho Frog Demons is a hex crawl that all link together.
>>97184510I looked up Slavic monsters on Wikipedia, but that was to workshop a theoretical video game styled after Blasphemous
>>97184510The people who "own" this shit are sick and tired of it, and thus ee no value to export itThe people who treat it as exotic stuff meanwhile have nothing to draw from, unless they can read Cyrillic.Truly, a huge mystery why it has low-to-none exposure

>>97177224do the words choking hazard mean anything?
yeah one of my kids likes robots so we use some battletech minis and just do a straight-line moves only thing. every mech has some armor bubbles and the number of armor bubbles also determines how many times they shoot, so a light mech gets 2 bubbles and shoots twice. hit on 5 or 6. I've been slowly adding elements as his brain gets more wrinkles
>>97177310No, but I have played MYFAROG once. It wasn't great, I ended up usurping the GM chair after the first game and I ran Hyboria using an OSR rule set.

That, or traveling and staying in youth hostels.

Why was XP for gold largely abandoned as a way to reward players?
>>97178186I’ve been running AD&D myself and my experience could not be more different. If you’re strict about the money sinks your players are broke ass bums all the time. I’ll be showering them with money but levelling up and identifying items is so ridiculously expensive. I wanted to play this game to see if people here are just talking out of their ass about it and they are but at this point I think every table is so different that no facts can be agreed upon so discussion is almost impossible.
>>97161391Because the people who replaced it were a bunch of preachy Mormons who wanted you to instead be rewarded for following the rails and acting Wholesome and Christian in line. Not even bullshitting, Dragonlance is basically a Mormon fapfiction and the stated goal of the Hickman manifesto was 'Get those retards to ingest our too-shit-to-publish-on-its-own-terms fantasy lit'It's not that games didn't have overarching stories before Hickman, it's that post-Hickman the game became about the story, as proven by the number of people cranking the hog in this very thread over "hurr durr, your characters are boring and we need a big story to keep things interesting"No.Your metaplot is boring and the characters are the ones the game should be about, they should be inherently interesting people and if they're not then ask your players why their characters aren't interested in adventuring off their own bat, you frustrated failed novelist.
>>97161553>went out of popularity about 40 years agoYes, OP knows this. It's why he asked, WHY?
>>97184311Maybe because the answer is obvious (players want actual stories and not just dungeon grinds) and the OP was just an argument starter?
>>97184308Dragonlance hasn't been relevant in decades, the typical D&D player today probably hasn't even heard of it.
How to make a setting feel like it's not a not!x setting?I recently got some of my friends into GURPS. They wanna play a fantasy setting for their first experience. I want to make sure the setting feels like it's own and doesn't feel like the characters are exploring not!europe or not!england. I've been told this was a bit of a problem in my previous pathfinder campaignHow do I make the setting feel like it's own thing without the players feeling like they are just going through the real world?
>>97174889Arthur is, canonically, Cymric (basically Welsh).
>>97174921WeirdAlways thought he was english too
