I would like to talk to people over 25-30 whose rooms are often filled with toys that they started collecting back in the 2000-2010s.Most of us have some reason why we have this addiction to toys. We love having new toys and sometimes even give our favorite toys meaning or hunt for a specific toy because it means a lot to us (saw it in cartoon one time as a kid or saw it in store back then and always wanted to have it and etc.etc.).Let's talk about that, share stories and talk abour our reasons and mamories. Will post my story in first post.
>>11646204>I would like to talk to people over 25-30 whose rooms are often filled with toys that they started collecting back in the 2000-2010s.It's similar to playing an old videogame - It brings me back to an earlier era that I remember fondly, and mentally revisiting it brings me some joy. The older I get the less I view modern toys with a lens of "I wish they'd bring back my childhood" and more "I'm glad kids these days get cool stuff". It's nice to take a break from thinking about the issues my adult life is facing and gawk at some AFOL's MOC or work on my own project. Collecting toys and doing things with them can be a nice hobby and gives you something to show other people and talk about. Going to Brickworld during the summer let me talk to other enthusiasts and see some really cool stuff. tl;dr it's good to stay in touch with your long lost inner child and it's also a nice hobby to have
>>11646204My father played with my toys with me on the floor as a child and he was murdered when I was 6 so it's likely some psychological way for me to still connect with him all these years later. Said murder also lead to an ingrained fear of the outside world where playing alone in my room was only place I felt safe so again toys were my source of entertainment.

>>11648179This is terrible, anon...im sorry. I wish i could gift you a new cool toy
>>11648198I hope it didn't come off too bloggy, it felt appropriate for the thread. Whatever the reason for collecting as long as it makes you happy that's all that matters. Sadly the happiness part has been dwindling for me. I still like collecting the ones I like, but the happiness isn't there like it used to be.

Metal build Nirvash redesign sucks, but I'm still buying it. We will never get another option. I'm sorry for being part of the problem.
>>11646376Realizing this, I've now become somewhat un-hyped for the possibility of a Ver ANIME MP Guncannon. I figured that might be next in the line up considering Bandai backtracked and released all the other missing MS. But the MP Guncannon is only ever shown using one machine gun. No shield no beam saber, no bazooka. If it does get made. It will only come with like a few sets of hands, one machine gun, firing effects pieces, and that's it. But I'll still cost 80-100 dollars I bet.
i think im just moving over to gunpla at this pointA.N.I.M.E. isn't getting much, the other lines are expensive, lmao metal build/robo-dou
>>11648040Robo-dou is a fucking bargain compared to ANIME at this point.
Since netflix is going to buy warner brothers, does this mean Mcfarlane will get a chance to get the DC license back? Also with the Netflix money can he finally get that Spawn movie made?
>>11644502They are a brain rotted cult. You only need to read a few of the replies to your post to see this.
>>11644571You are picking out little pieces and making points unrelated to what I wrote. The person I replied to responded to someone typing "whore it out" and then tagging "Spinmaster;" the response was partially correct in parts but then added "tiny companies" and combined SM and MT like they were identical or essentially similar. My responses was regarding that, and I used DC as a point of reference since I am very familiar with Warner Consumer Products. I disagree with your points about Netflix being merchandising wizards. They haven't even managed to show that they could create something like the WB shop, which WB mostly failed to make into a common marketplace thing like Disney or LEGO did with their retail, but has still successfully merchandised WB licensed goods since the 1950s. Ditto Disney, which if you want to talk about a company knowing how to "maximize licensing" - they are it. I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you if you want to lick Josh Simon's balls and call Netflix brilliant, that's fine by me. But any industry trades that report on Entertainment, including the merchandising, and industry publications specific to licensing and merchandising all say things like: >Netflix's "subscriber total exceeds those of its competitors, including Disney+ and HBO Max, but it lacks the consumer products and experiences that other streaming platforms offer."
>>11645416>Disney, which if you want to talk about a company knowing how to "maximize licensing" - they are itIs that why star wars and marvel are dead?
Why can't boomers make up their fucking minds anymore? They can't take their internalized regrets and remain silent like rational adults.
>>11646093YES, YES, YESEXACTLY Boomer's only real value is passing in their generational wealth to the smarter, prettier off-spring who even today visibly showcase on sites like TikTok that they make better decisions minute by minute!

>>11649519It's literally what retailers are demanding, that's why comic-only waves have tended to be fan channel lately. Walmart/Target/etc aren't interested in them unless they have a movie/show/game tie-in. The only exception seems to be retro cards.

>>11649547I order more than just toys. I have stuff like laundry detergent, dog treats, eye drops and stuff like that that I subscribe to that come to my house every few weeks. It's cheaper than buying it at the store. It pays for itself after a few months so it's whatever, plus I watch stuff on Prime Video. But whatever, you do you, no one is forcing you to use it.
what was the weirdest toy you has as a kid?I remember this trunks figure that came with a skinsuit of his super saiyan form. I thought the gimmick was neat but also a huge pain in the ass and frankly kinda creepy. after a certain point it just became a manlet trunks figure to hang out with the normal-sized super saiyan gokus and vegetas I had
Saw this at a supermarket in the Whitehall Mall in PA decades ago. Bought it as a gag gift for my brother. Such beautiful idiocy.
>>11645234Idk, probably a knock off go bot from a drug store. There was a christmas where i got things they found at yard sales and while i understood the reality of it i guess it kinda bothered me to get just random stuff and a han solo mego sized figure. The han was strange since she knew i did not like dolls in any way so yeah, that was weird.
>>11647438My aunt did that to us. Had gotten me that tall Luke Skywalker doll, and my older brother... the Princess Leia doll? lol... it was probably all they had left of the big ones, due to the christmas Star Wars toy craze.

I think I am one of a handful of people who actually know why this toyline failed in short The toy line was pure insanity somehow the managers did think that kids will love mutants who look like crap thrown together! The only colors are shit green, shit gold/brown and 4 of the mutants look almost identical meaning like generic crap thrown together. Not only this the mutants are fully unique (have their own molds)!!!!!!1111one one oneIf you did not know the original toy line did reuse like 4 molds they pressed differently colored plastic out. This is why the le skeleton scare glow literally has abbs and flesh on him! They only painted the skeleton in. This was super cheep to produce. However the 90s toyline decided to have these mutants. And wasted unique molds on EVERY body part they have. This character? Looks totally different in the show and is not even really named. Also all the mutants except 4 are background characters and one of them is not even drawn in model or his colors? The most memorable are>Flog (red leader)Comment too long. >>11638396 I think that the weird retro apocalypse futurism - in a strongly Kirby way was part of it's charm. Thundarr rides over a desk in the middle of a swamp (that has stood there for a thousand years.) and the wood freshly smashes. SPEED BUGGY is petrified in a rock - but can still be driven. Subway posters for JAWS 10. And they are all mixed in with MASSIVE geological shift. It's literally A WORLD GONE MAD. and that makes it better. (and that's not even the aliens and cyber mages) This isn't 200 years in the future. Magic fucked things. what magic didn't fuck science and radiation did. the interactions are why it's like that and bits of the past preserved.
>>11638407 It's possible that you could reboot Thundarr today because it didn't have the toys then.
>>11638402I don't think having to feature specific characters in a series due to a new toy coming is a bad thing. aiming a cartoon to sell a toyline doesnt have to be bad. lazy writers might complain but when you have the talent you can add new characters and get a new spin on the series with it
>>11639154>That's how Harmony Gold stole Macross from Big West/Tastonoku with changing the name to "Robotech," re-editing the cartoons, and changing most character names. This is inaccurate. The way they stole it was they purchased the rights to localize Macross, but the wording in the contract was vague and so they argued they bought the rights to the IP it'self. They ended up settling for ownership of the distribution rights in the western hemisphere, but I think now even that is no longer the case because they haven't done anything with the rights other than sue people for distributing/producing anything even Macross adjacent for the past 3 decades. Now they only block any Macross content from the 80s era.
>>11637488it's like they wanted to be GI Joe and TMNT simultaneously
>biggest toy store in the city is closing>go check it out>this is their Marvel Legends sectionWhat the fuck
>>11644340I went to a Ross today that was filthy with NECA's. I'm not interested but I dropped a post to their GEN. They had DC, ML (not many), but a lot of Bandai and other imports, Transformers, I saw GI Joe's today as well, plus a ton of Beastmaster Super7, and some random ReActions (the Office and Parks and Rec?), so you're right. However, we have what passes for toy stores in my metro area, plus WalMart in the suburbs and Targets. In fact, this Ross was right next to a hge Target (about four small stores apart since Target has their own building).>>11644382Yup, I saved that picture to shitpost on Toddster Patio Gen here but I see if I blow it up you can clearly see the BA logo. Sabac also had a boring design. I've seen people do displays without any DC capes but using the pirate from Aquaman or using Swamp Thing or even Darkseid to tower over shit and it looks good, so I could see someone buying him but it's so fucking static. These are just cheap PVC statues.I just realized that the vehicle on the bottom of that display in the Batpatz Drifter bike, I just grabbed that off Target for $14, free shipping since I was buying other crap. I can see people picking that up cheaply if they understand it's just a generic Honda or similar bike, there's not even a fucking bat logo on it.
>>11645430Wouldnt mind getting Demona if i didnt have to shave her wings down again
>>11645711I was really impressed with how good some of those look. I keep seeing just The Black Noir and no other boys (maybe they never made any?) and I think it would make a great basic generic buck for a head minion or something like that in a crowd scene. But I'm not paying $17 because he's on some Amazon Prime show that I've never even really paid attention to the memes that stemmed from it.
>>11636190It's fucking insane. They'll make figures for literally who characters, but you'd be lucky to find an Iron Man or Wolverine.
>>11645989>literally who characterssome of that is contractually. some of it you have to wonder.I mean look at all the Metamorpho's that are peg warming all over the place half a year after the movie came out. They might as well have made a Jimmy Olsen figure.

I miss the tin train that belonged to older family members (think mine had been an uncle's?) and were passed down. It still worked and I remember my dad telling me about rust and taking care of it and that I could pass it down. Other than that and wanting toys not to just be non-stop plastic, have no real opinions.

>>11642897This model is cool as fuck AnonWhere did you buy it from?
/smg/nigger hereQRD for someone who has built 80-something model kits? What do I buy and where does the weathering go? What to buy (as far as brands are concerned, I know that there is Bandai, Meng and a few others)? Building a model for a girl who *loves* anime, she likes Evangelion, TTGL, Code Geese (Peace was Never an Option) and Escaflowne. No clue if she has seen Macross, Gundam or The Big O, but I might do Gundam anyway and also include a flash drive with the full anime of said series (depending on which one, the local shop has a lot of UC, Wing, G, SEED, SD and Build), if she has not seen it. I know that she has not seen Rayearth, if that matters.
>>11649579Are you asking what kits to buy or what you need for weathering?Because kit wise it depends on who makes what, Bandai has made Code Geass kits and the RG Evas, there's a Moderoid Escaflowne, there are the Plaiobot Gurren Lagann kits, I think they're doing a reissue for Gurren Lagann itself next year? and there's Lazengann and Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann.Weathering is something you'd probably be better looking at some tutorials for but it's not too hard if you just want to make the grimy rusty look.
