Early 2020s: China enacts laws severely crippling the internet for people unless they show ID

Jul 2025 (Online Safety Act): UK enacts laws neutering the internet for people unless they show ID; remains in effect despite initial outcry

Dec 2025 (Online Safety Amendment): Australia enacts laws neutering the internet for people unless they show ID; likely to remain in effect despite current outcry

Apr 2026? (KOSA, made it into the House recently): US enacts laws neutering the internet for people unless they show their IDs

EU has similar shit on the table iirc, they're the fucking EU they love regulation

This will get worse, and this won't go away, at least not in the way you want it to - it'll be an impossibly difficult sell because "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" Security theater is notoriously difficult to reverse, just compare flying pre and post 9/11. This'll probably be more of the same. Again, UK already had a petition, the gov there just laughed in everyone's faces. Only way any of this is really "going away" is, like, the internet itself going extinct.

Not just this btw, also got countries banning Chinese social media (which in many cases can ironically be less restrictive), Android banning sideloading, etc.

This won't get kids playing outside again. They'll just watch only the government-OK kid-friendly TV, YouTube Shorts, and AI. Sheeple will still use a heavily policed internet and talk to Amanda the AI HR Lady because "brain need dopamine". China's still full of internet addicts despite having long had one of the world's most censored internets.

basically yeah. it was marketed for that, industrial applications, accessibility, and people with large hands. its ps/2 and from 1994, but i want to use t over usb so the pico is going to serve as an active adapter since the keyboard doesnt support usb natively. the pico is also eventually going to support custom functionality like key remapping since the keyboard can switch betweek abcdef and qwerty, and im also planning on bodging in some cherry switches for the modifier keys its lacking, which would probably make this the (soon to be) only keyboard in the world with bolth alps and cherry switches.

Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™

>weight and size
>performance of a modern cpu and nvme storage
>actually having battery life and not lugging around a chingchong 9cell humpback
>stays relatively cool (except when it was running windows)
>16gigs works well enough on most debian based distros
>TB4/type C port for basically everything
>much better display
>90% of offices here use type c docks and i can't realistically lug a 4337/4338 station with me

A few people here still use the X13g2/g3 and refuse to upgrade as they are quite nice, plus i was able to play a bit with an x13g2 and the keyboard is more than fine compared with modern commercial laptops.

iirc i paid the equivalent of 850~euroshekels for the X13g4 including shipping and taxes (will eventually take an X1 from work), just make sure you get one with a 100% sRGB panel or else you'll feel like you wasted your shekels.

Gn*me was the only one that did this cleanly when I tried a few years ago

everything has basic support, nothing (afaik) has sensible scrolling gestures

on windows you can use SpotX, dunno how it works but I'm using it for years and never heard an ad

on android you can sideload a cracked app, process is a bit involved and your app will break after updates but there are reddit guides if you choose that path, I'm now on iOS so I don't care anymoe. On iOS you are kinda fucked I guess but I don't really mind

general advice is to download anything good you find on spotify so you grow your local music library that will always be yours and ads free

As long as you don't do content creation nor super big video file rendering they will last 10-15 years. It's just gamers always want the biggest and the fastest nvme and they don't know how to shop for second hand ssds. Bought 20-30 ssds till, now, at least a quarter of them being nvme. They are still solid, lowest ssd was 48% good on crystal disk info, and 89% for a sk hynix nvme. These things last a long time
