Why is a YouTube channel with 1K subscribers allowed to upload so many long videos, shouldn’t they have to build trust before being allowed to do that?
>>107717388
>Not my problem.
Either you or someone else has to watch a bunch of ads so that Google can get more storage. When someone buys something they see in an ad Google makes a cut of that sale too, they track people all over the internet to confirm that the ad worked. They probably also have the ability to see if products in physical stores are being purchased, if sales go up in a physical store nearby you then the ad was successful and maybe Google makes a cut of those sales too.
>>
>>107717474
Those are live streams.
>>
>>107717698
It literally makes no sense. Jeets are uploading terabytes of AI slop no one watches and YouTube is actively suggesting these videos to users (since they are pushing 'small creators' nowadays).
I don't believe uploading useless AI slop is against any TOS so you can't flag a video for being of terrible quality

I can bet the viewers are Indians singing praises of white women and how Scots and Indians had poop relations millions of years ago.
>>
>>107717854
So the solution is overlay the steganography with AI slop so the video appears to humans and filters as actual content, but the hidden data is still available.

Are you implying the internet didn't become shit the moment smartphones became widespread? That was a gradient between 2007-2012 by the way, well within zoomer memory.

Having some affinity for an often idealized era before your own, or interest in some concept or bit of culture from it etc.. is not uncommon. The issue now is how many of those who seem to speak with some sort of authority about the time like they're explaining it to lay people as if they lived it; that's different.

Related but a little different and even more annoying in my mind, especially when respect to the Internet are those who lament how the Internet sucks now and how the old Internet was great and they're sad they missed , yet when some of us who were there say
>Oh you appreciate that era? Well, here's some of the stuff that made all of that possible and you can make things suck less. Uphold the old Internet values of FOSS, interoperability/federation, privacy and security, other elements of the hacker ethos that built tthe best part of it all. Break away from modern social media faggotry designed to spy on you , centralize everything, and most of all destroyed the distinction between meatspace and the Internet, all so that advertisers and data miners can profit. The Internet was best when it was treated as a separate place from 'real life'.
and yet these fags either have blank expression, admit they just liked the old AIM or ICQ bleeps and bloops and Win98 SE style taskbar, or give some sort of
>How will I know who is CULTURE_WAR_BUZZWORD
or
>But then BAD_PEOPLE will like, get away with being bad!
and other forms of missing the goddam point.
>>
There is an entire genre of youtube that's just zoomers explaining things they never experienced.
Which is always cringe to watch as someone who lived through those times, especially when they're talking about technology I've used when it was current, but now they're looking at it with the benefit of hindsight.

What does /g/ use to automate home and control it?!
I started using home assistant on a rpi, it works but too cumbersome, also the widget thing never works on the phone for some reason, the whole idea is doing stuff from the phone homescreen not going in the app just to click a button.

it's a little annoying that I don't think there are open APIs I could script to control devices and I guess I would switch if I needed that. But I haven't yet so I've just stuck with the easy thing.

schedule for a lot of things when to turn on/off
security camera to start recording when I leave the house
robot vacuum to clean when I leave too
other things like opening the curtain and tea machine, and more
>>107718668
the reason why I'm after open source is the obv the tracking, but also I don't want any 'voice assistant' because they are recording all the time, I would rather either automate something, or just clicking on a widget, but home assistant widgets aren't working for me

how come we can't have 3 button mouses like this anymore?
the mouse scroll is prone to breaking, and the mouse3 click is just uncomfortable to use
if I had just a regular button for mouse3 I could click to hold-and-scroll a page with ease and the mouse would never break

I've been thinking about those at some point even with these centered ones, your arm would need to be higher than the device because bending your wrist upwards while doing repetitive work with fingers is also a bad idea in the long run.
Initially I would think about resting my hand on the device/desk but that's very wrong.

So I just need to do basic tasks like listen to music, stream video, and browse basic websites. Is installing windows 2000 a bad idea? How fucked will I be for drivers?

The reason I want to do this for one, it's botnet free, and two it was the most streamlined of classic operating systems. I really have a boner for Windows 2000 and I just want to know if it's even moderately viable to use in this day and age.

bro, your OS is literally called "eunuchs"
>>
>>107705709
What, like on modern hardware? You will almost certainly have no driver support whatsoever and I don't think Win 2000 even has a 64b version, which would mean you're going to be limited to <4GB usable RAM. That wouldn't be completely unusable for a modern browser, but it's tight, assuming you can even get a modern browser capable of displaying the modern web properly.
>>
>>107705709

It’s not, but that’s not gonna stop you!

What if you got VMware Workstation Pro for free and put 2000 in that? Then you can live your botnet free life in the VM. I run 98SE in VMware and it works good!

some people just wanted to share something with others and hosted it themselves
like personal sites, not necessarily blogs
the blogs platforms just made it easier for people with less technical skills to do that
people paid money to host their stuff, not for earning money
it was only later that people started expecting money from hits on their sites
and then more people started hosting stuff with that intention
the OG people hosted stuff without an expectation of getting something out of it
to this day people do this for their niche sites, a simple distro site or phpbb forum is just like that
we used to make phpbb forums to talk with others about our shared interests, there was no money involved

The people that buy ads care about one thing and one thing only: ROI. That's it.
That's why radio has ads even though there is no way to do targeted ads or invasive tracking.
They don't care what Google's blackbox is doing. They bid purely on ROI.
>>
>>107718624
Yes, which is determined by the number and type of user interactions with the ad.

New version is out.

Also, why was my previous thread deleted? This is a software-based application explicitly engineered for operation within the computational and telecommunications framework of a handheld mobile device, ok? It is therefore unambiguously situated within the broader domain of contemporary technological systems, infrastructures, and applied digital sciences, and as such relevant to /g/.
