>today we strive for more

lol. people only work hard enough to be comfortable and then they stop. this is cyclical and it's been this way for thousands of years. they find a comfy niche, settle into it, and if someone threatens it dearly enough they revolt and push back - but just enough to get that comfy niche again. repeat ad infinitum.

you think a world where people sit around all day getting fat, consooming propaganda on 5 different screens, forfeit every morsel of privacy, and place their faith in politicians is indicative of people who "strive for more"?

none of them will be sufficiently motivated to do anything until they lose all of these creature comforts. historically the peasantry didn't revolt as easily because they were disarmed and malnourished, but they also had very little to lose beyond their lives. they figured out it's best to keep the wagies fat and happy while chiseling away at things bit by bit, if you take too much they'll get really mad.

that is why the single best thing to do with the gun grab is nothing. keep all your guns, you procured them all legally, they're your property. theft is illegal and immoral, always has been.

The guy they roomed me with got pissy at me for stretching and not hitting the gym the night before MEPS and he ended up failing on the duckwalk because he was too stiff from working out for 4 hours.
More annoyingly some giga-autist latched to me and kept saying edgy shit and tried to convince me all day to go to the marines instead of the navy, despite me being too old for the marines and telling him multiple times I'm commissioning and to shut the fuck up

Peasants who were called to arms as part of their feudal obligations were usually free and secondly (on paper) rather well off. A 12th or 13th century source from somewhere around Franconia I can't find anymore was about the armament a Free Farmer (Freibauer) shall possess: shield, 2 spears, sword, helmet and an unspecified armor for the upper body. Of note is that it was still forbidden to carry those items for everyday use - for this large knives or a tool akin to a marlin spike were specified. There were also types of bondage relations where the peasant was to fight in the retinue of his league but in turn he was supplied by him.
>>65032725
Why should they? In a purely martial context a hatchet is worse than a sword or knife. And for military fieldcraft dedicated units of course had them in addition to other tools.
>>
>>65032799
you are gay and people used to carry spears. if you make them smaller it defeats the purpose of a spear

I can build a campfire with my bare hands. I dont need an axe unless i plan on building hundreds of campfires or a more advanced shelter. Even then i'd rather have a saw.
>>
>>65032818
>it requires less metal
That just wasn't an issue.
>>
>>65032695
Yeah except that's wrong. People would turn up with spears, other poles, or bows, along with swords or daggers. Nobody was showing up with their random farm tool hatchet, because it'd be a shit weapon and you, a medieval man, would know war was a part of life and make at least done minimal investment in being able to defend yourself.

On top of this, axes and hammers for fighting are completely different from working tools, are vastly less convenient than the dagger or knife you WOULD own and wear day to day, and are generally much less useful to a man with little or no armor than literally any other type of weapon, as they're absolutely shit for defending yourself with.

Uhh... that's by design my guy. Feature not a bug. Do you think the Democrats and Republicans in charge want to change this and invite competition? Of course not, so it's never going to happen. And there is certainly some benefit from this system towards continuity in the operation of the country and especially foreign policy.

The major problem that I see is things do cross into "uniparty" territory, like with support for Israel as the prime example. But on domestic issues, the Overton window has been getting dragged further and further left, with the GOP not really doing anything at all to combat that and defend actual conservatism. That's the real dysfunction, not the fact that there are only two parties. There's a huge unmet demand for more hardline right-wingers so we'll see where that goes. The left is happily running actual Communist freaks like Ilhan Omar under their "big tent," while the GOP eschews more radical positions within its sphere. So the result is that we have a huge swath of the country pretending that a 90s Democrat is ackshually Hitler. And in response to that, a sizable minority wants an actual real Hitler.

Having said all of that, I might even agree with rank choice voting as possible solution but I'd need to analyze that in depth to have an informed opinion. Which I won't be doing since changing the way voting works is never ever happening, not in a million years. That's even more difficult than getting Congress to stop insider trading lol.

>>
>>65030814
Anon fighting axes tend towards light and thin blades. They don't need to be particularly heavy, you have the leverage from the shaft to generate power. Halberds are absolutely more tip heavy than a spear, but you'd still mostly be trying to stab people with it, for the simple reason that it's the thing that commits and exposes you the least.

Well, that and hitting people in the head, as even a fucking foam halberd can concuss people or knock them off their feet if you go full retard with it it, nevermind what it'll do to a shoulder or clavicle if the other guy only has mail on his arms.
>>
>>65030814
2 handed axes were sub 4lbs as are all good repros of daneaxes and lochober axes. A poleaxe or polehammer would be under 5lbs too. These are nimble, fast, hard hitting weapons that don't feel like you're holding a breaker bar.
>U haven...
Repros and originals. The originals are lighter and handle far better largely because they have distal taper in the blades and Indians staring at internet pictures oversize things.
>But how could it pierce a helmet then
Because it's a spike moving with the rotational force of a 10ft haft into a visor or side of helmet where it's thin. Helmets weren't 3mil through hardened springsteel like in buburt either. Field finds, middens, etc. show dents and pierce throughs on armor. It's not the expectation or even lethal in large cases but armor was compromised by weapons of its time and if anything was to do it it'd be polearms.
>>
>>65030814
>>65031837
the fact archers remained viable as long as they did shows that armor at the time was super fucking mid
>>
>>65032282
No, it just shows what we already know - most people didn't have complete armor, and were thus vulnerable to being shot.
>>
>>65032811

I'm having my own bolt action shopping for a target/small game gun but 223 now lol. >Honestly though, why?
There's a stock I really like but the only copy someone has made for the rifle I want is made of ply which is heavy as fuck. Also like $700 for a $500 gun. Plus it comes from Eastern Europe, so god help me after shipping and import, etc. Without a scope I'd be looking at like $1500 for gun+stock all for a super heavy stock that doesn't look quite right anyways; I figure it's a good a time as any to learn fiberglass. Also once I learn then I can teach others how.
