BMP-1 was about as janky as you'd expect from basically the first large-scale adaption IFV in the world, and then hampered a bit more by political BS. Unfortunately for the Russians, it also locked in a number of doctrinal and construction practices that proceeded to age poorly, and couldn't be corrected for lack of politicla will and avaiable resources.

Do you need special munitions to take out power plants in a similar way to runway cratering and taking out hardened bridges?

It seems like Russia and Ukraine just take the route of trying to hit critical components and grid connectors but we've seen that so long as you have access to components then you can quickly return to business after a strike.

this whole situation is ridiculous because the people who are threatening each other don't give a fuck about what is being threatened by the other side
iranian government doesn't care about iranians
trump doesn't care about anything
the game of chicken doesn't work if both sides don't care if you run into each other
>>
>>65049053
The Iranians are just able to read the fucking room. They've tried talking it out with Trump and Bibi twice now, and gotten a knife to the back each time because it just resulted in them being perceived as weak. They have to make this into a defeat for the US, because any negotiated outcome below that means they'll just get bombed again in a year because someone needs a political distraction.

Trump and Bibi effectively tied down the gas pedal and removed the steering wheel in Iran's car before starting this game of chicken, and now they're wondering why these crazy Iranians aren't slowing down or evading.

Would it be stupid to buy a really cheap ultrasonic toothbrush to clean your guns?

I was thinking that the main issue for the A10 is that it puts pilots into far too much danger in the current SAM and Manpad enviroment CAS is no longer a viable tactic against anyone with any amount of modern air defenses.
The platform however does still have an useful role even if it will likely suffer far higher combat losses than modern planes.
So the logical solution would be to remove the cockpit and the expensive controls, replace it with a computer and a starlink / satellite connection so that the pilot can control it from an AC office. Without risking his life every time to some random dude with a strela or igla manpad.

Why? The only reason to convert an A-10 into a drone would be to keep the GAU, everything else that it can do (i.e. carrying bombs and missiles) is done more effectively by smaller, cheaper, more flexible, and less retarded drones. The GAU isn't a tank killer OP, it's basically just a (vaguely) targeted cluster bomb/warcrimes dispenser. You'd get much better effects and return on your money by building a drone designed to carry Mavericks/JDAMs/APKWS as needed - maybe carrying pair of M2s for anti-drone use.
>>
>>65047182
The main issue for the A-10 is that it was a one trick pony and the GAU didn't really cut the mustard anymore.
The only way to fix it imo is to cut out the big ass cannon and extra armor that weighs half of the plane, replace it with a big ass radar, and put more hard points and rocket pods on it. It can be a loitering drone hunter.
>>
Wasn't there a mission in COD ghosts where you pilot drone A-10s?
>>
>>65048076
Tbh, it never really cut the mustard in the first place. The amount of vehicles that can be breached by 30x173 but not by a 20mm is pretty narrow. Which would be okay if they hadn't built the plane around this massive gun.

As an a2g weapon, I think it was fundamentally flawed based on anecdotes of the Ju-87G. A revolver cannon or two would have been better for the A-10 imo.
>>
>>65048076
>replace it with a big ass radar
The A-10 is already underpowered in the engine department, a radar needs to pull energy from a generator connected to the turbine shaft.
The APU is not gonna cut it.

How feasible would it be to use a nuke on Iran's underground missile silos, and uranium enrichment sites? This idea has been proposed in the past for targeting the underground sites buried more than 1,000 ft deep.

And aren't there so many you'd need to use a whole bunch?
I just dont see it happening, iran isnt enough of a direct threat anymore to warrant that.

This island is not in Israel’s interest. Israel cares about the missiles, nuclear capabilities, and the uranium, so as I said, this island will be destroyed.

many such cases with the nazis
>>
>>65047400
Well the Schweizerdolch was very common in southern Germany and Switzerland. But the nazis misinterpreted the swiss Reisläufer as an exclusive german phenomenon and thus used it. This led to a quite funny circumstance: the Swiss in the late 1940s were weary of the rise of Nazi Germany and revised the old shape of the Schweizerdolch too with the intention of emphasising the swiss readyness for the defense of the land. But by that point in time this shape was already heavily associated with the Nazis and the swiss thus changed the design by increasing the size and shape of the crossguard.

It's dead for current military use, but like .30-06 there's a bunch of surp on the market and it's still popular for civilian hunting. It's far from a rare cartridge, the ammo is easy to find.
