Actually most of the time it’s boredom with a dull undertone of borderline physical pain at having to deal with idiots all day. The book will take long term air moisture damage, but so long as you don't fuck up, it'll be good enough to finish. Cheap paperbacks will do. The cigarettes are also easy to deal with. The tea on the other hand requires some kind of samovar, and refilling the cup while protecting your book is probably a ballache.

DESU I'd be more worried about the tea than the books. I have a very nice tea set that I got all the way from Japan and I wouldn't want to risk the cups in a bathtime setting because I'm worried I'd drop them on the tile floor and they'd shatter.

It's moreso that there wouldn't be anything for consciousness at all if there was no "spooky" so to speak. There would be no experience whatsoever, and this is what Kant is getting at with "thoughts without content are empty."

"There can be no doubt that all our knowledge begins with experience" as Kant says in the introduction. And earlier in the B Preface: "This consciousness of my existence in time is bound up in the way of identity with the consciousness of a relation to something outside me, and it is therefore expeirence not invention, sense not imagination, which inseparably connects this outside something with my inner sense." All experience and indeed all notions of identity are necessarily bound up with that "spooky" you so deride. So again, pick up your Kant and put those second-rate thinkers down.
